I think King was over 85% completion for a very low YPA most of that game, which easy routes was Bama taking away again?

I agree on what you're saying about our D though
Which is why those “surrender runs” on 2nd/3rd down were so frustrating. I think it’s a diff game if we stick with the short passing game. Our WRs didn’t seem to have issues getting off the ball. Also would’ve liked to see the fake QB draw over the top to Mallory at least on that 4th down play.

We are so poorly coached on the defensive side of the ball it’s laughable.

You had Jennings - MLB - out in coverage on an island against Metchie - Bamas best WR and potential 1st round pick.

You’ve got poorly disguised blitzes - and when Bama audibles, we don’t audible out.

You’ve DE’s consistently dropping out into empty space, with no one within 10-15 yards of them - covering nothing but air, because their aren’t players on that side of the field.

DEs not setting the edge

Players in space covering nobody

Living a dying with soft zone defenses. Bama sent guys in motion often so their QB could recognize the zone pre-snap
I’ve been griping about mannys lack of disguising for years.

Did Diaz do this spot drop zone garbage back in 2017 and 2018? Although when we played a good Clemson team our defense got worked in 2017 so maybe it doesn’t matter
The answer to this is something I've had to compile for a while now.

Richt forced this dude to play a 4 3 defense, now richt is gone and this is what diaz really actually likes to do.

Part of why I'm not on the diaz train no more

well maybe if our DL would keep their rushing lanes this wouldn't be a problem. It always seems that are rushers are always bottle up, or push to one side.
He doesn't use the DL as contain on every play. Sometimes its the LBs and DBs depending on the play call. His system

Correct.

MALLORY IS SOFT!!! So it obviously begs the question. What do MOST Cane fan's see in him. He was " punked " several times last season too. Yeah. I know he had injury issues to deal with in the past, but there's NO EXCUSE this season. My bad for calling out the obvious. And yes, a lot of Cane player's on offense were " punked " too. Peace.

Haven’t watched the clip or gone back to watch the game.

But watching it live, I’d say it was much more of a coaching discrepancy than talent discrepancy vs Bama. Which is saying something.

It's obvious McCloud playing for a possible NFL roster spot. Not a for a practice team spot. He thinking it's NOW, or NEVER!! I look for him to keep his game " solid on down, strong. "

Am I losing my mind or did we previously get a few coverage sacks under Diaz? Specifically when pressing with Jackson and Delaney. Also someone please explain having 2 stand up rush ends in a 4-2-5. I need that to make sense
Why do olbs stand up? Because they can either rush or drop easier. Many 4 down line defenses are doing that now.

He was our best de by a good distance. The rest gotta step their game up. D. Johnson was invisible. Harvey wasn't much better and chantz was too inconsistent. The tackles were pretty good with Ford and hunte being the best. Get Taylor in the game though please!!!

Yeah we've been doing it a little bit over the years. It's becoming more popular with defenses the last few years. Pretty sure we did it in 2019 Florida game and last year a bunch.

Those defensive coverage breakdowns were on Diaz. We got good pressure yet the QB was able to get the ball away, why? Diaz leaves easy routes open, while Bama does the reverse, the clamp the easy routes and by time the deep ones get open, we are under pressure or sacked. And then on the reverse side Lashlee is there trying to get easy routes but slants and deep crossers were the way to go after Bama. Bad gameplanning on both sides.
Deep crossers? Did you watch the game? King barely had 2 seconds to get the ball out.

By mid way through the 2nd quarter he was tucking it if his first option was covered bc the pocket collapsed on him so many times.

While there were certainly some frustrating moments, the QB got the ball away because he was just better than our guys. Sensed pressure and was able to climb the pocket or move away from it, eyes downfield, accurate throw, 5* receivers.

There’s plenty to fix, but there is only so much you can do when there is that amount of talent discrepancy.

Slants and deep crossers. You wanna ignore half of that? Also he had most problems because we kept running on first down into a loaded box forcing us into 3rd and long and then they pinned their ears back. Find a next excuse. We even rolled the pocket early and it was not a bad tactic.....what we do? Stop doing it. Bad gameplanning hombre. Thats all u wanna chat about 5 stars, cuz that's the only way we can be competitive and only way for someone to get open. Brain dead.

That was a great breakdown. I’m trying to figure out why cheat if we are steady getting or butt beat!!!

I rewatched the game Monday and the announcers mentioned it in passing. Like the face mask was no big deal.
Yeah, they mentioned how the pass rush had King looking back. He looked back because his facemask got grabbed. That would have extended that drive, instead it was 4th down.

I've noticed that too, and I don't like it. We don't have fast LBs who can move in space to make up for the DL if they get contained. So gap integrity on our DL is essential.

All in all, I thought our DL did fairly well. They just don't have the support they need from our LBs to truly be effective, and I don't like Safeties being forced to come up and make the stops.

Manny's system is flawed to begin with, and it's made worse because of our personnel.
