SUNDAY BUZZ COLUMN

this supposed holder of graduate level psychology degrees

Do you know who Golden's professor was?

His resume says UVA but I'm beginning to think it was just a special degree program there headed by Dr. Al Groh.

"Golden uses the teachings of world-renowned sports psychologist Bob Rotella, whom he studied under as a graduate student at Virginia. Rotella works with some of the PGA Tour's top golfers, including Rory McIlroy, and has consulted for teams in every major professional sports league. Golden uses his golf mentality with the kickers."

Al Golden coaches kickers with finite focus, golf mentality - tribunedigital-sunsentinel

I actually was aware of his connection to Rotella. That's probably why Golden freaking does so well at these Coach Challenge golf events. Not seeing any tangible benefits beyond that.

Duke was supposed to lead this team instead he folded in every single big game we played and tapped his helmet to come out at the most crucial times. Then had his whole camp stirring up **** starting with his mom that locker room was a mess (then again a good coaching staff won't let that happen) but there wAs no vocal leaders in this team Denzel was also quiet. Tracy is telling no lies

EXACTLY

Never gonna get fixed when your leaders hate the coach (Chickillo, Duke, Herb, Flowers) Them boys despise Golden as does Tracy.. that boy totin the company line trying to get PT and to get drafted...Way to play the game Tracy... Please stop haton on Duke whemn Golden out here trying to run him into the ground.... But if blaming somebody besides Golden helps you sleep at night...by all means go ahead

Golden is a bum , and can't coach that's been established doesn't change the fact duke isnt the player you guys make him out to be

These type of articles renew my interest. On paper strongest we have been on the DL in 10 years. At LB, if Owens is as advertised, the LBs will be fast and good. At DB, Tracy is the key. Can he step up and with Deon lead this group to being excellent. I know this staff has everything to prove, but with 2.5 weeks until camp and 6.5 weeks to kickoff I need some hope.

Right. They're working do much harder this year that many of their strength and conditioning numbers were worse this spring them last spring lol

"The rotation should help keep players fresh and confuse offenses; depending on the matchup, UM could bring high-level talents like rush linebacker Al-Quadin Muhammad and strong-side end Chad Thomas off the sidelines to catch opponents napping."

Why does this statement scare me so much. Theoretically it should work, but with these with coaches, it has the makings of an Elmer Fudd vs Bugs Bunny scene. And they are NOT the bunny.

I remember having a conversation with Mel Bratton about leadership. His exact words were "Jimmy didn't coach that team, we coached that team." He told me several stories about, him and other team leaders beating the living **** out of slackers and get them back in line.

I agree Golden sucks but every man controls his own actions. Play calling does not prevent a guy from missing a tackle, committing stupid penalties, dropping catchable ball, and running to the fu@king ball.

No but poor coach leadership and soft practices will. Try again

I've never seen a Miami team respond to a bad season by saying these things in the off-season, during the past decade.

People never learn.

Say the same thing every year... Bash the departed players and proclaim it's a new beginning... First we were glad RS players left now we're glad our most productive players are gone because they weren't leaders... And I'm tired of hearing how the FSU lost ruined our season... I could have sworn we lost 3 games prior to that event... Our season was ruined after the GT lost... Sounds like they are still making excuses... Just say we got our heads bashed in but we now want to win... I don't want to hear about lack of leadership when we have been riding the backs of a couple of players for a mediocre production... Let's not slam the players that left...

Yeah, but AQM got sent away for a year for throwing one punch(albeit non-football related), softness starts from the top down.

Golden has shown flashes. 2nd half against vt his first year, the Florida game in 13', the first half of FSU last year. problem is he is afarid to let his punches fly.

UF was trash and injured... They whipped our tails on the field but Driskel was impersonating Santa Clause and gift wrapping interceptions... With the exception of 2 wonderful passes their defense owned us... Golden didn't show anything... No one should credit Golden for anything in 2011... That was an 11+ win team that brought back many players from a team expected to play in a BCS bowl the year before (RS was fired for not meeting those expectations)... There was a reason that team was losing by no more than 3 points in most of its losses... The coaches were getting out coached and beat by coaches with inferior talents... And stop giving him credit for FSU... FSU played like that against everyone last year... We didn't even play them hardest... UF, ND, UL, Clemson and Oregon played them hard than us... Golden hasn't shown us anything... He's great at marketing but that's all...

I've told this story a million times, but a coach who has been at Alabama and Miami told me flat-out that Miami's best players are better than Alabama's best players. The difference is depth, coaching and infrastructure (training table, medical staff, etc.).

That's why Miami players perform so much better in the pros than Alabama players.

D-money that was in 2011 when RS was fired for underachieving... We were sticking talent then but I think this may be the least athletic Miami squad since 79... We have corners running sub 4.6's in a good day... Wideouts and running backs averaging 4.6 40's... And overweight bloated defensive players... In 2011 Miami had like 3 or 4 of our players was in the top 10 prospects at the combine for speed... We probably one prospect for the last 2 years combine... I don't think the talent level is there anymore... It's been almost 5 years since you shared that story... A lot of time has passed...

If people really believe Howard would dump on DP, Chick, and Duke, I don't even know how to respond to that.

Other than to ask yall to go back and read the comments from those 3 guys about the changes in the team for 2014.

The talking points will be strangely similar. Duke and DP were often supportive of the staff, and blamed players for not making plays.

But I guess they didn't hold the guys accountable who kept blowing plays? If only they had some coaches who could have had their back in addressing those slacking players?!?

I'm amazed some are still going through this routine , it's been the same crap for four years .

You do know the definition of insanity?

“Alabama is definitely not the most talented team ever, but they’re a team. They believe in what the coach tells them and they believe in their system. That’s why they always come out on top because they believe in what Nick Saban is telling them to do.”

LMAO! As if those kids listen to Saban because they're less talented.
No, Tracy...they listen to Saban because that $h!+ WORKS!

Tracy is just running game here! He knows that this is his last chance to make an impression on NFL scouts. When he shows a bad vibe or speaks out against the staff, he gets benched. I think this is his way of trying to get and stay on the field.

Wow. They finally neutered Tracy Howard.

I never thought he'd be one to fall for the schtick. I guess he's accepted the fact that these corches are horrible but if he doesn't fluff their genitalia he won't get many snaps.

Baby Jesus on a pogo stick.

I can guarantee that Bama's success has nothing to do with pool parties and dodgeball.

I will say this. Last year he was one of the worst with body language, and duke probably 2nd. Reminds me of middle school kids I coach. I call kids like that front runners. As long as everything is going good no adversity, they do well. They get behind as a team, officials bad calls. They pout and quit. They are mentally weak.

Lol these players are beating golden at psychology now

Yawn. While those other leaders who supposedly didn't lead, where were all the new leaders at?

Coley a leader, get the **** out with that stuff. I think he's still on the ground against Nebraska somewhere.
