Speed at corner

Thing about it is...that was a good coup for Indiana. Because they also got Ti Mullen out of Creek who is really good and a steal from them. Mullen brother started at Clemson.

Had sanguintti been an early commit he wouldnt have to worry about that..but as he dragged it out all those "phantom offers" evaporated..even Stanford played him out.

Indiana is doing a good job down here. They also got James Head last year and Gary Cooper this cycle.

I personally never had a former player of mine get much faster in college. They get bigger while maintaining the same speed they had in high school. (which IMO is an accomplishment in itself)

I had a kid go from 4.47 to 4.42 while gaining 20 pounds.
Another kid go from 4.41 to 4.35 while gaining 21 pounds.

Most kids don't get substantially faster in college. But I think dropping .05 while gaining 20 pounds of muscle is impressive.

First of all I said A 4.58 or so, he had a verified time of a 4.62 as a junior with an elite sparq rating so that’s not far at all or unattainable for him period

Okay TrpTMor**, got it. But I appreciate your humor Blake. You're good humor on the site. So thank you.

Keep in mind, the discussion here was getting faster from 9th grade to college, not from Hs senior to college.

A DB thread without @Tee3000 is like Reese's chocolate without the peanut butter.

A track/speed thread without @Miami Nights (Track Star Par) and @Tetragrammaton Cane is like @brock's steak without the ketchup.

Now bring me some peanut butter and ketchup please.
Whoa?!!

No peanut butter? That's simply sick...

Life will be worse under socialism. This is what AOC will get you....peanut butter shortages.

Read the Jimmy Johnson article from earlier where he reiterated to the staff : prioritize speed over everything. Doesn't matter of they're small of they can run.

I don't think we'll be getting the TCs or Tyriques anytime soon.

Search for 4.4 corners is the eternal search it seems...remember a conversation I had with Dave Scott, then the recruiting coordinator for us under JJ. I think that was back around '88. Said big priority was 4.4 corners.

Trying to remember who we brought in that year.

I woulda thought there are more fast guys now with improved coaching and speed training but maybe not.

An Asst AD back then, Larry Wahl, told me there wasn't much speed in our '88 secondary. He told me the big change would be Charlie Pharms when he got into the program. I guess that was '89.

Seems like the same problem we had 30 years ago...the speed shortage continues.

Now that I think about it, that might have been the time we recruited Marshall Faulk for corner. He wanted to be a RB, so Curtis Johnson grabbed him for SDSU. CJ later opened up our LA recruiting big time when he got on our staff.

I think he can play there... I can def see why we want him at corner, but I think Holmes can play RB. Looks like he put on weight between sophisticating and junior. Hopefully more this year.
Check your autocorrect before hitting post. I enter mostly from my phone and I get some hilarious entries if I don't proofread.

11.07 is much closer to 4.55 to 4.6. Its nowhere near 4.3.. 4.3 is for guys running 10.3
No expert here, but 10.3 would seem exceedingly rare. How many have we had in that range? Remember Tory Mitchell and that Sprint champion RB from Texas? How many others? DVD and Dorsett? Who else?

Back pedaling on what? My comments are there for anyone to read & for you to re-read idiot.

That 11.07 was two years ago. Learn to comprehend.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 right bc no one ever gets faster...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 this is the dumbest human being in the world. Even after running track for 2 years & then being in a college S&C program which also subsequently works on agility & SPEED.

Like I said...the scouts at the combine & at the pro day will have STOP WATCHES & their hand times are what they go by anyway. The electronic times are for the geeks at home like you.

If you want to deal in statistical anomalies and Casio stopwatches go ahead. I prefer math and science.

That's what i'm trying to point out to the TEE kid. To run a 4.3 you have to be exceptionally fast. World class fast. Somewhere around 10.-1 to 10.2 is olympic qualifying fast. 10.2-10.3 and you're probably less than a dozen kids per year coming to playing college ball and being good football players. A few i can remember are Jeff Demps, Austin Schwartz, Marvin Bracy, Trindon Holliday, Marquise Goodwin.

Fastest canes in recent memory.

Travis Benjamin10.44.36

Andre Johnson10.594.4

Lamar Miller10.564.4

Devin Hester10.424.41

I couldn't find a 100m time for dvd but i found this.

DeMarcus VanDyke • Ran the second leg of the 4x100 relay that advanced to the NCAA semifinals, ran a season-best time of 39.57 at the NCAA quarterfinals - setting a school record

great observation, what did nigel bethel run in the 100 meter? That being said, Tee was saying that Bandy ran some time in the 4.3 range in the 40 on greentree. Everybody knows that you add at least .1 to any greentree 40 time. which would make Bandy's 40 time in the 4.4s, which is believable because Bandy ran a 4.51 in his senior year of highschool and he also looks fast on the field. So I wouldn't be surprise if Bandy right now ran like a 10.7-10.8 in the 100m.

10.3 is rare. Bracy ran a 10.12, iirc, which was the fastest 100 in Hs in ages. Maybe ever. But wind aided iirc. There are a few guys each year who can play football and also run a 10.3-10.4. Hester ran a 10.4. Iirc terrell walden was a track guy too but not a football guy. Maybe im confusing him and someone else however.

But acceleration and change of direction matter more on a field, so the 40 and short shuttle are the best metrics, i think.

I think Tory Mitchell was faster than all of them. If my memory serves me, he might have had a 10.13 wind-aided. His life ended tragically. He left UM as a freshman, transferred to Texas Tech, neither his track nor football career took off, and he died tragically while still young--murdered.

Who was that sprinter/RB from Texas? He also transferred out early. We list a lot of RB recruits who transferred out early during that period (Lee Chambers, Storm something or other, just as an aside).

When we recruited Alex Johnson in the mid-80's from Homestead there were news reports he had an incredible 100 yards time--something like 9.3 or 9.4. I don't know that he ever displayed that on the football field or track at UM. Rocky Belk, a WR from the early '89's, was reported to have run around a 9.4. In the 1960's, we had a RB from Nyack, NY, Don Clancy, who they claimed ran a 9.6. A few years later, we had a couple of fast RBs, Vince Opalsky and Bobby Best. Neither achieved the superstar status predicted for them, especially Opalsky.

Oldtimers will remember that sprinters in American track ran 100-yards, not meters, well into, perhaps the '80's. I'm not sure when the switch to meters in American track took place.
.
Bullet Bob Hayes (FAMU) was known for lowering the 100 yards record from 9.3 to 9.2 and then 9.1 in the early '60's. I believe one or two of his records were set at the UM track because when I looked at his records I saw that they were run in Coral Gables. I doubt if he was running in meets at CGHS or somewhere else. Coral Gables wouldn't have had that many venues.
