Perry was the QB and he doesn’t use the TE or the middle of the field as much as Jarren
And Jarren cant throw deep and stands there like a statue and takes sacks when he knows his O-line sucks. You're hyping him up after he played 8 plays and scrambled successfully ONE time in those 8 plays.

Nkosi is a better option as long as the O-line sucks and Enos is calling his stupid plays. FSU is going to be the Virginia Tech game all over again.

We have one maybe two deep passes while N’kosi was starting. Jarren is better in the intermediate and that’s a higher percentage than the deep throw.

You don’t lose 20% completion percentage for a QB that may take one less sack per game (nkosi was still sacked 6 times vs VT) and hit one deep pass every other game

It will be 12 continuous clips from the Pitt game and add that wicked guitar solo intro for good luck. Miami needed a very strong performance from the defense and a call to the bullpen to win this week. Here are some of the random takeaways from the game.

  • Miami gave up only 2 sacks. Which was the lowest amount Pitt had amassed all year
  • Miami only allowed 2.5 plays for negative yardage. Which was the lowest amount Pitt had amassed all year by far
  • The one sack attributed to Zion wasn't all on him. Yes. He got beat but he had a back in to chip (he didn't) and you had your quarterback dropping ten yards behind the line of scrimmage
  • Third down conversions are not getting any better and it's systemic. (Execution, some tendency starting to emerge, and lack of focus to detail)
  • The decision to pull N'Kosi Perry late in the ball game was not a bad one (Remember I ALSO said the decision to pull Jarren after 3 straight INT's vs VT was not a bad one)
  • The lone interception was a byproduct of leaving the ball high and a cb astutely keeping his eyes back at the quarterback
  • Several overthrown balls this week by the starter
  • Caught instances of staring down receivers (highlighted in the video)
  • Perry is now 56.6% on the year and is 2nd to last in conference (If factored as a starter and plugged into the CFB database as one)
  • Perry has attempted one more pass on the year vs Jarren

  • The 4th and 1 quick screen at the end of the game was a brilliant call
  • Jarren Mobility is not a liability like some portray, his ability to get a critical first with his feet late in the game was contrary to the statue some claim him to be
  • Williams has rushed for -57 yards on the season (highly attributed to sacks and a more pocket passer variety)
  • Kosi on the year has netted only 5 yards rushing (also highly attributed to sacks)
  • The Touchdown to KJ was on an RPO from the pistol and burnt Pitt on a blitz and was a new variant that I hadn't seen much of or at all this year
As always I hope you enjoy the video format although it was an offensive snooze fest for most of this film. Still think this offense needs some more juice and walking out of that contest with only 208 total yards was soul destroying. And remember as always, please subscribe to the channel and I greatly appreciate it. Lastly, every clip in that FTP video is separately cataloged and on my channel's page. Feel free to share and post particular plays in here at anytime. This is for you guys on the boards who actively partake in the healthy debate and discussion and never result to name calling. LOL. But yes. This is still for you.

Let's revisit this after the FSU game. If they start Jarren, I think **** get annihilated by their front 7 and will be rebenched after throwing multiple picks. We shall see.

They've had successful plays in both. But bringing personnel closer to the qb has led to its unique circumstance. Press corners blitzing unaccounted for week zero comes to mind. They were close and boom.

I'm in favor of a pro spread for Miami guys with some tempo.(think opposing teams would die in the heat with a little tempo) I'm not shy about it. Been like that for over 10 years.

But Miami has had really good under center screen plays go for big plays and tds. Some big over the top plays too.

Just barely enough success to convince Enos to keep it up.

Smh.

No question that Perry had his worst game against Pitt. He was 10/24 and 1 interception. Jarren and N'kosi have different styles. Jarren is more calculated and risk adverse while N'kosi is more high risk - high reward.

Both Jarren and N'kosi have attempted nearly the same number of passes. Jarren is 94/135 (69.6%) and N'kosi is 77/135 (56.5%) per ESPN.

If Jarren had thrown the ball away just 6 times versus taking sacks, he would be 88/141 for 62.4%. Prior to the Pitt game Perry was 67/111 for 60.3%. So, you can see how statistics can bend the truth. If Jarren had played a majority of the VT game, there's no telling what his completion percentage would be.

My thoughts are that both QBs are a work in progress. They both have things they do well and things they need to improve.

I just want to win. I think we should just role game by game and play whomever has the hot hand. Both guys should continue to improve and battle it out next Spring and Summer. If they both continue to improve and push each other, we all win.

I think Jarren can be the man!

if he can learn to stop holding on to the ball so long.... check your first read if its not there start tucking to run while glancing at your second read before just running for a couple of yards

his big negative sacks really bogged down the offense when his stats show he can he super productive
Said it before, he's black Alex Smith. I mean he is more mobile, and athletic IMO.

Jarren just has to learn to throw it away. There are going to be times when he has to improvise...I watched Kyler Murray yesterday try to do this over and over again. his OL is not that bad, but his WR's really do not do a great job of breaking of routes and getting open when the QB gets mobile.

I see a little of the same with out WR's. Jarren really needs to learn how to get outside the pocket and maintain awareness of the pass rush from behind (which is extremely difficult, unless your Kyler Murray, DeShawn Watson, Patrick Mahomes type of guys). If PEnos or whoever is our OC, wants to keep it simple, they need to teach to find 1st read, and if its not there, than to either step up in the pocket or get the **** out and find 2nd read (or check down). After that he just needs to throw away or tuck and run! For a QB playing division 1 football this is really not that hard at all, I watch high school QBs run RPO's and spread offenses all the damned time, even QB's in high school still running wishbone, all systems that can much more difficult to learn and execute regularly.

To be effective he needs to get beyond 1 read, that's what Perry has been doing, agree he needs to run quicker if nothing is available but we need a QB that can make more than 1 read.

It's All About N Perry.

Regarding his INT, the protection was fine, but there was imminent pressure, and my man Perry probably SENSED it. However, Perry was LOCKED in on his primary option to the right side of the field. But hold on bUbba's. Perry had a WIDE OPEN Cane streaking down the sidelines ( I couldn't catch his #. ) Matter of fact, Cane W-OUT was turning around and looking for the ball. IF Perry would have held the ball just " one second " longer, just a mini-one second longer. MAYBE he would have looked downfield to a streaking wide open receiver.

Nevertheless, the pass was bad and I think he let the oncoming pressure get to him.

Oh. And one more notion. The offensive line had it's best pass protection of the year. Major kudo's for the collective unit. So there is SIGNS of improvement. Hopefully, the Cane offensive line will keep the sack total down against mighty FSU.

TWO READS should be the maximum for the rest of the season.! Especially against decent conference defenses or conference teams whom have a strong front seven.

It’s been his issue since being here, the clock in his head is broke. He doesn’t like to throw the ball unless there’s clear separation from the dB, that’s not always gonna be there.

But he’s easily the better of the two qb’s. Honestly that was never a debate imo.
Now there is no debate since Kosi had his opportunity and blew it.

If Williams struggles, people here will want to see Tate.

I was a Perry believer after VT, but I'm done doing that this year, give JW all the starts and let's find out what he has. If he falls apart, you go out and get a grad transfer to pair with Van Dyke to compete next year.

We're running an alternate version of Ritch's offense, sh*t is ridiculous. We have a very efficient 4-way threat against good offense atm.

-OC turns into an idiot when calling plays
-OL is up and down
-WRs dropping 3-5 1st downs every game
-QB missing reads/throws a few times

Add it all up and you have UM's offenses in the last 2 years.

Great work as usual, Roman.

Jarren is deadly accurate. It is on Enos to put him in a position to succeed by calling better plays. To me, Jarren is clearly the guy and has been since week 1. Personally I wouldn't have pulled him vs. VT, but I get it. But he should've been right back in the next week.

Perry is more slippery in the pocket and can make plays with his feet, but he doesn't keep his eyes downfield (as noted in Roman's video). He anticipates and throws guys open better than Jarren, and he takes more deep shots which at least keep the defense honest. But those positive attributes are negated and then some by his wild inaccuracy.

Kinda surprised we haven't seen a Tate package all season.

Nice to get a win so I can actually go back and rewatch the film this week. Been running back Breaking Bad instead, way less disheartening.

he was badly hurt against CMU, his throwing shoulder. i don't know why people don't accept or remember this. it happened literally right in front of us. he tried to play at VT but the ball was coming out weak, later and inaccurate.

Such a clutch play

I shared those concerns about Jarrens lack of running ability bc aside from that play Jarren has shown to be completely clueless with his decision making in that department.

Jarren made two nice plays against Pitt the run and the short 1 read throw to Osborn that KJ did all the work to score.

NKosi had the type of game he had against Pitt bc he was still injured.... definitely not sold on Jarren being the best QB on the team or capable of winning these next games on the schedule

🤷‍♂️

You wouldn’t have pulled a QB who couldn’t throw properly because he had an injured throwing shoulder?

Williams should start. Perry just isn't accurate enough. First offensive play of the Georgia Tech game, Perry has an easy throw for an 8 yard gain and misses it. Williams makes that throw and we are never in 3rd and long and that stupid fumble in the end zone doesn't happen. At this point you are either accurate or you aren't. Making better reads and speeding up the clock in your head can sometimes be fixed.
