From the Perch: Miami vs Pitt

Roman Marciante
It will be 12 continuous clips from the Pitt game and add that wicked guitar solo intro for good luck. Miami needed a very strong performance from the defense and a call to the bullpen to win this week. Here are some of the random takeaways from the game.

  • Miami gave up only 2 sacks. Which was the lowest amount Pitt had amassed all year
  • Miami only allowed 2.5 plays for negative yardage. Which was the lowest amount Pitt had amassed all year by far
  • The one sack attributed to Zion wasn't all on him. Yes. He got beat but he had a back in to chip (he didn't) and you had your quarterback dropping ten yards behind the line of scrimmage
  • Third down conversions are not getting any better and it's systemic. (Execution, some tendency starting to emerge, and lack of focus to detail)
  • The decision to pull N'Kosi Perry late in the ball game was not a bad one (Remember I ALSO said the decision to pull Jarren after 3 straight INT's vs VT was not a bad one)
  • The lone interception was a byproduct of leaving the ball high and a cb astutely keeping his eyes back at the quarterback
  • Several overthrown balls this week by the starter
  • Caught instances of staring down receivers (highlighted in the video)
  • Perry is now 56.6% on the year and is 2nd to last in conference (If factored as a starter and plugged into the CFB database as one)
  • Perry has attempted one more pass on the year vs Jarren

  • The 4th and 1 quick screen at the end of the game was a brilliant call
  • Jarren Mobility is not a liability like some portray, his ability to get a critical first with his feet late in the game was contrary to the statue some claim him to be
  • Williams has rushed for -57 yards on the season (highly attributed to sacks and a more pocket passer variety)
  • Kosi on the year has netted only 5 yards rushing (also highly attributed to sacks)
  • The Touchdown to KJ was on an RPO from the pistol and burnt Pitt on a blitz and was a new variant that I hadn't seen much of or at all this year
As always I hope you enjoy the video format although it was an offensive snooze fest for most of this film. Still think this offense needs some more juice and walking out of that contest with only 208 total yards was soul destroying. And remember as always, please subscribe to the channel and I greatly appreciate it. Lastly, every clip in that FTP video is separately cataloged and on my channel's page. Feel free to share and post particular plays in here at anytime. This is for you guys on the boards who actively partake in the healthy debate and discussion and never result to name calling. LOL. But yes. This is still for you.

I think Jarren can be the man!

if he can learn to stop holding on to the ball so long.... check your first read if its not there start tucking to run while glancing at your second read before just running for a couple of yards

his big negative sacks really bogged down the offense when his stats show he can he super productive

Don't think anybody said jarren wasn't mobile. The issue was he didn't use it and would just hold the ball forever and take sacks.

It’s been his issue since being here, the clock in his head is broke. He doesn’t like to throw the ball unless there’s clear separation from the dB, that’s not always gonna be there.

But he’s easily the better of the two qb’s. Honestly that was never a debate imo.

Jarren no doubt is more accurate and the better passer. My thing was at the time i just felt nkosi was the better option.

I think jarren can be successful but this offense isn't a fit. He needs to be in a system with heavy rpos and just spreading the field getting the ball out quick.

Perry is who he is. Not starter material. Good off the bench to ignite a spark.

That clock should come with experience, don’t you think?

I beg to disagree. JW has been ORDERED by his OC, to check out his " reads. " That's why it appears JW is cradling the ball too long. DuH.

The bottom line is with this line. JW should only have 2 PRIMARY reads. And if no receiver is open, then run for his life. :ttdg2m10mxvzxan.jpg:

someone hit the bottle early.....

either way... if it aint there.. you dont have time to let it become there

just tuck it get what you can slide and live to fight another down

If you think Jarrens mobility isn't an issue, you are ignoring reality.

We've seen his mobility be an issue in every game hes played in.

It's not that he isn't athletic, it's that he struggles with pocket presence. I'm sure he could improve with time.

Since Enos is dead set on running his offense, Jarren will struggle because this offense isn't QB friendly and our blocking is poor.

Hes going to get sacked more than Nkosi.

kosi having 5 net rushing yards is an absolutely shocking stat.

Offense looked way more qb friendly than it has been lately with Williams as the qb early in the season
