Was I Right Or Was I Right?

By this logic you should never fire your coach unless you are going to get Meyer, Saban, Belichik, or Carroll. It is absurd. Fuente looks to be a miss. Norvell may be, but he is in year one and inherited a dumpster fire. Collins had to build GT's entire offense from a triple option offense to a modern scheme with guys recruited to run the former.

Yes

Y'all gotta stop. He's not getting fired... Just cut it out. He could have ten years like this and all he'll do is get extension after extension. This cracks me up. The vast majority of y'all are going wild saying we're 8-2 and have a great class coming in than put up some dumb *** scarface gif talking bout manila... Obviously some of us bright enough to understand reality. I think u fall in that category z. So just give up that dream for what it is. Buddy ain't goin nowhere no time soon.
We could have just as easily been 5-5. We are not a good team. I have always said the W/L record doesn't tell the whole story. How are we winning? How are we losing? 8-2 means nothing when your two most impressive wins are against two teams having their worst seasons in a while, and your two losses are beat downs. No Miami fan will be happy with these performances moving forward.

And spare me the class coming in. There's a reason all of our decent players are from the portal. At least they got some decent coaching before they got here.

Bolden hadn’t played in almost two years and Phillips was a physically gifted but scrawny medically retired gamble.

Also, home grown Zion played as well as Williams.

I only asked because I’m tired of hearing “A real coach” all day long.

Who in their opinion is this answer to our problems?

Im genuinely curious, no ulterior motives.
Every hire has risk - football coach, law firm, manager of a restaurant. There have been G5 coaches that have succeeded, and there have been G5 coaches that failed. You can sub G5 coach for coordinator, coaches from the staff, NFL guys, retreads, young, old, whatever and that statement holds true. Picking the right coach is not easy, but you can minimize that risk as much as possible through doing a full search. We did not do any form of a search. We hired a guy off a staff that was fired and a team that was trending in the wrong direction. That seems stupid at best.

I don't watch nearly as much football or know nearly as much Xs and Os as others on the board, but @Go Canes!! is essentially saying that there is not a coach in the country ready to take that next step. Incidentally, a big part of Blake James's job is to know who those people are, interview them, and choose the one that is the correct fit for the unique culture and circumstances of Miami. He failed to do that.

I said it elsewhere and I will say it again. For all of the bull**** that comes with being AD - the gladhanding, the begging for money, the dealing with off field problems, and 100 other things, one of the most exciting parts of the job would be to pick that next coach who is going to win titles. And this idiot said no thanks and ended the search 4 hours later.

I literally just showed multiple posts from 2 years ago clamoring for Matt Ruhle.

I havent done much research I wont lie I just want to hit the reset button again. It might be over anyway money game is to big, the NCAA has to crash n burn they wont allow us back.

National titles against the top 4-5 is a y’all hill to climb, but we have everything we need to be a consistent, fun top 10-15 team every year right now.

Everything except a competent football operation that is.

It never bothered me when we lost to Clemson since 2015 except for the WAY we lose to them.

Where would we be with Freeze, Butch , or Mullen? Maybe not beating Bama or Clemson but we wouldn’t be getting blitzed for 60 by Mack Brown.

So one dude. One. That's pretty **** bad.

Fvck no it's not. That just means he's gonna take kids who have tons of potential and ruin their lives within 2 or 3 years tops. You have to develop the kids you sign. You have to coach kids up and have a clue of what you're doing. Recruiting is certainly necessary. But you gotta back that up with more than the talent they leave high school with. It's crazy people don't get this. Everyone thinks we missing on 90% of our classes. NO WE ARE NOT!!! It's we have coaches that don't know **** they talking about or how to suceed on this field.

The people who pay attention to this team knew that we were overrated by the way our defense played. The holes at LB and corner were obvious since the beginning of the season, and Manny’s recruiting there is largely to blame. I gave him credit for addressing our QB and ST issues but his defense has been “smoke and mirrors” from the jump. Until he puts a DC in place who has complete autonomy we’ll continue to struggle vs good teams

We may need to think outside the box and consider taking the Jim Tressel route.

We need to follow the new NFL playbook. Find the hot young offensive guru. We need to find one who is likeable on the recruiting trail and has head coaching experience. We clearly aren’t going to poach a big name bc we won’t pay him and we’re too incompetent to choose the right G5 guys. I’m also sick of hiring lifetime coordinators. So f*** it Im all in on maybe going to the FCS ranks, but you have to come to an agreement on who the DC will be and that they’ll be given the keys to a certain extent on that side of the ball.

Shields came here to play WR. You have to understand that. It was a 'business decision' according to him - still recall his interview when he signed. Kid didn't grow up a Cane, and he wasn't 100% enthusiastic even when he came here. Coker's botching of WR recruiting meant he saw opportunity here. He came for that and it took time to switch him. He should have been switched a year earlier, IMO, but that's hardly the giant failure your list implies. He was also a great special teams guy as a jr. They let that be the focus. Anyhow, that was Randy era.

Graham wasn't even a football recruit. He played 1 year and had to learn the spot.

Vernon, he was talented but his agenda was NFL. He played in an era where the team and culture was broke and he didn't buy in but not sure it could have been otherwise. He was here to get to nfl and he did. People who knew at the time noted he wasn't giving extra effort.

If you want guys we mis-used, RRA was certainly one. Armbrister could have done more here. But the truth is, we have not had guys who had great NFL careers in a long time. Most of our guys the past dozen years have done mediocre in nfl. We haven't sent an all pro to the nfl since beason, excepting graham who was a basketball player here. Vernon iirc made second team all-pro 1x.

Your point was the portal guys were better because they got coaching somewhere else.

Theres three examples indicating that’s false.
Other than Phillips, I don't see any improvement in any of them. Bolden is average. Phillips was a 5 star kid that had injury problems, now he is healthy. I guess Manny waved a magic wand and cured him? Roche looks about the same as he did at Temple. Jose is kicking the same. Williams was a starter, and is here. Where are the players that Manny brought in and made better? You're saying Phillips, but that dude has always been talented, just injured.

Now, back to my point. How many dudes that Manny recruited have improved here? You said Zion, and I will agree that he improved. It would be impossible not to over what he was last year. One guy that has made a jump. Now, look at all the guys that have not shown improvement and tell me which list is longer.

I like the offensive guru approach, but I always worry about defense with those guys.

We need a LEADER more than anything. Give us a strong leader with a track record of hiring good coaches and we will be a consistent top 10 team.

It can’t be just any guy and based strictly on wins and losses. We need a guy with the right personality and to judge his results through a proper context.

He needs alpha body language and solid football knowledge. A leader with a good coaching budget would work wonders here.

Look what Richt did on the downside of his career. We can get a strong coach if that’s what the administration really wanted.
