Every hire has risk - football coach, law firm, manager of a restaurant. There have been G5 coaches that have succeeded, and there have been G5 coaches that failed. You can sub G5 coach for coordinator, coaches from the staff, NFL guys, retreads, young, old, whatever and that statement holds true. Picking the right coach is not easy, but you can minimize that risk as much as possible through doing a full search. We did not do any form of a search. We hired a guy off a staff that was fired and a team that was trending in the wrong direction. That seems stupid at best.
I don't watch nearly as much football or know nearly as much Xs and Os as others on the board, but
@Go Canes!! is essentially saying that there is not a coach in the country ready to take that next step. Incidentally, a big part of Blake James's job is to know who those people are, interview them, and choose the one that is the correct fit for the unique culture and circumstances of Miami. He failed to do that.
I said it elsewhere and I will say it again. For all of the bull**** that comes with being AD - the gladhanding, the begging for money, the dealing with off field problems, and 100 other things, one of the most exciting parts of the job would be to pick that next coach who is going to win titles. And this idiot said no thanks and ended the search 4 hours later.
