Team will be 4-0 heading into the showdown with FSU

The Nebraska win, if it happens, will look a lot like our win against UF a couple years ago.
BTW - I had dinner in Vegas with a former player from Nebraska a couple weeks ago. I asked him how the Huskers will be this year, he said, "Its going to be a long year or two for Huskers fans. Mike Riley doesnt have the type of players he needs to run his offense. Dude was expecting Nebraska to struggle a lot this fall.

Perhaps the Canes can come away with a win against Nebraska, but if they do, it will likely be closer to the win against ohio state when they were ranked coming in and finished the season below .500. In other words, it will be another vintage al golden win.

We will be 4 wins and 0 losses and my family will have a indoor plumbing.

But still it's a different situation. Louisville, at home, night game, Labor Day, week 1 against a true freshman QB.

This season Miami is at home against a team that only won by 10 points. Abdullah was the main reason they won that game. Abdullah ran for 229 yards on 35 carries.

I mean Duke and Warlord were the only reason we were in the game if you want to go that route

Two bad D's in that game last year. Duke's fumble 6 was the difference.

I can see this being exactly like OSU, UF, OU at home, except they all had more talent than this Nebraska team. This Nebraska roster is garbage, and I can see Al in his press conference talking about beating a historically prestigious Nebraska team, while citing their all-time record.

I've said what your dinner friend said for months now.

As for a 4-0 start, it's more likely than not, but that's why they play the games. There's going to be a lot of people with egg on their face after this next season. 8 wins with this pathetic schedule is a given unless the team quits.

Yeah, there's little doubt that our coaches probably won't put our guys in the best position to win against Nebraska. I still think we win.

NE might have a new coach BUT we still have our old one. They lost a RB; we lost Duke. We, with true freshman QB in their house scored TD on first drive. This staff STILL lost the game. Al cannot coach, so him still being here more than makes up for NE having a new coach.

Plus, AL can lose to Cincy easy. He might be the ONLY coach in America who could lose to them with our talent, but I have faith in him doing it.

We're gonna "turn the corner" like a parade float this year, boys!

i can't help but reflect on what Bowden said of a Miami/FSU game years ago. "We thought we could win. Miami knew it would win". That's gone. The attitude came from the head guy. Miami doesn't set the tone with its defense anymore. No one fears us. That's why we'll lose to Nebraska. That's why we crash and burn this year. Miami is a shell of its former self and everyone knows it. Unless there is a paradigm shift. And I don't think Al is capable of that.

Stop it. Just stop it man. You guys are falling for this **** again??????

2-2 heading into FSU. Book it

This. How can you put blame on the person who kept in us games for 3 1/2 years by himself. You people have no clue.

First of all, these Duke criticisms are laughable again about how his fumble against Nebraska killed us. We were only in that position of having it close in the first place because he played so well.

Second of all, blaming night games and Labor Day as to why we lost to Louisville in Kaaya's first start is an embarrassing idea. We were in it and the special teams **** the bed and even then it was still close. I also seem to recall the O-Line getting mauled that game start to finish.

Finally, as far as the Nebraska game for this year goes, I think it'll come down to Mike Riley. If he goes the Golden-esque route and refuses to change his stripes and insists on trying to pass the ball all over the place like he did at Oregon State, we'll probably win by 6 or so. If he does what any good coach worth his salt would do and adjusts his style to be run heavy in a typical Nebraska way, I think we get beat by 7 or so. They might not have Abdullah anymore but they still have some big fat guys up front who can pretty much do what they want as far as run blocking goes. They looked relatively sharp in their spring game.

4-0 with top 20 defense.

Until Golson and Cook combine rush for 200+ on Dorito's Wefense.

Round out the rest of the season 2-6

6-6

First off, let me preface this by reiterating that I have as little faith as is possible in this staff.

That said, I believe this team has that Nebraska game circled on the calendar. I also believe that the Huskers will have a semi-rough transition in Riley's first year and without Ameer Abdullah.

Bethune - easy win
FAU - should be an easy win
Nebraska - I think we win a close one
Cincy - 10 days to prepare, crushed them last season

FSU - ???

Cincy is a night game on the road. I just hope there aren't a lot of clouds that night.

...and earth, wind and fire...any elements for that matter..

I have us starting out the season 4-0 and losing the next 4 with the last four being toss up games. I still think VaTech is the team to beat in the coastal this year.

Why can't someone think Duke's fumble in the Nebraska game was a big mistake and momentum changer at a critical point in the game, while also thinking very highly of Duke?

The two concepts are not mutually exclusive. I love Duke, but the fact is that fumble was big.

It has nothing at all to do with how many fumbles total he had last year, or how awesome he was for 3 years, or how he carried us to that point in the Nebraska game, or how our defense was run all over. All of that can be true (it is)...doesn't change the fact that his fumble was a big play in the game and hurt our chances badly.

No need to get so defensive about Duke. This isn't "bashing," it's just an observation about one play.

I love the guy. But it is what it is.

If only we weren't put into the position to allow a single fumble to determine a 60 minute game played by 11 players. If only we didn't have to ride Duke all game, for most games in order to have any semblance of an offense.

No one is getting defensive. Your premise is just beyond retarded.

Eloquent. Especially since you missed the entire point.

And please, I've seen plenty of people get defensive on this issue in the past (I'd imagine some would happily admit it). Don't need you to verify that for me.

That neb game is critical. We win that and we have a good shot at 4-0 heading into fsu. That would be a disaster. We need to lose that neb game so at best we're 3-2 after fsu. I don't want to build any momentum and the earlier the wheels come off, the better.

...or Florida when they were ranked in the Top 15 coming in and then lost to Georgia Southern and finished 4-8 or Oklahoma without Sam Bradford. Nebraska is terrible. They are living off the glory of the past and a decent draft class. Sound familiar? We have more talent than they do though. We should win this game easily.

Unreal the lack of respect duke gets from this fanbase

Let's nitpick a handful of plays one player who literally carried his corch for 3 years as to why we lose games vs. Entire series worth of headscratching moments from personal alignments to the play calling itself

They cannot help themselves. They NEED Duke Johnson to be the goat so they can continue to believe in al golden.

The two are not interdependent. Duke Johnson is close to being the G.O.A.T (as in Greatest Of All Time) for Miami running backs, but yes he does get the scapegoat treatment for a couple of inopportune turnovers and/or the propensity to run out of gas late in some close and crucial games.

Calling out a key turnover does not excuse the horrible gameday coaching and preparation from this staff. Most of these games we are talking about should never have been that close, but they were. That's when the little things matter most.

A Jimmy Johnson-led team might have buried FSU last year. Up 23-10 at the half, you keep at it and don't let up. Unfortunately, JJ is not our coach.

You can't fumble late in games when you have the chance to take the momentum if your scheme and your coaching and your talent make the margin of error slim.
