Official Spring PractiSe #9: Saturday, April 1

Yeah I think your second part is good discussion. Good coordinators know when to speed it up and when to slow it down, it was maddening last year watching Gattis
Great point. Controlled tempo is ideal. Gotta know when to step on the gas and tap the brakes. That Joe Brady/LSU offense is the perfect example. I think our guy understands that and it was music to MC’s ears. My $0.02…

Go Canes!

Exactly. But to me it just makes things easier on the O. Puts the D on their heels. Helps the QB get into rhythm.

We saw Lashlee use tempo in the wrong spot at times. Then Gattis molasses pace. Be nice to have someone who has a better understanding of the flow of the game.

Also I think TVD works best when
he doesn't have to think too much.

Well most LBs do see their biggest step in Year 3. So that doesn't surprise me, makes me excited to see the product. I just want to be reassured it's not lowered expectations.
I think he is a good player I think he can be all conference at his apex but I think the expectations are lowered some too so any decent LB play will be greatly praised lol

Mauigoa looked pretty good on the two Washington State games I watched condensed on YouTube to see what we got in him. But he wasn't an all conference kid by any stretch. Don't get me wrong, I'm super happy he's on the team. We need another one. But my question is why his play seemed to leap so much since coming to Miami?

Has Cisco taken a big step over the off season? Or is it just that everyone else is so bad and we've had such bad linebackers for so long that a decent player stands out much more than he should?
Compare his film to Flagg and Steed the last couple years and you will have you're answer.

He was a special teams ace his freshman year. His play on special teams is what got him some early burn. This will be his 3rd year. He has the speed and physicality we need. I cant wait either.

Oh for sure my man I’m right there on board with what you’re saying. We definitely need tempo

What was ****ing me off last year was just the lack of feel Gattis had as well. But yeah anyway totally with ya

His play perhaps hasnt leaped as much as how sub par what was here when he arrived.

Want more tempo, not less. Hopefully during actual gameplay they at least start fast & slow it down as the game wears on.

I think he's saying less tempo than Kiffin, not less tempo than us last year. Big world of room between Kiffin and Gattis when it comes to tempo/pace of offense, though. Hope we're closer to Kiffin than Gattis on that one.

It’s situational like many teams across the country. Get 7+ yards on 1st down? Go fast/take a shot. Big run on your sideline? go fast/ they can’t sub.

What hurts your team is going fast for no reason and punting quick.

Did you watch last couple years, we basically have below lower tier LB play for a while now.. Overall our team is really bad.. If you need tape, just google MTSU game.. That was a terrible team and they blew us out.. Our LB had some low lights in that one that should help clear up any questions

Doesn't matter. DL should have enough depth that they dominate in Spring. What happens if 1 or 2 of our starters go down in the Fall? You'll see the same lineup we have right now without a couple portal transfers in the mix. I "like" our healthy 1s, don't love them. But we need more than just 4-6 guys who can play.
They’ve already added two transfer DTs and are looking to add another after spring. That would give them 7 DTs not including bigger ends who will slide inside on passing downs. I understand that everyone wants depth but you have to ask: 1) how much of your 85 man roster are you willing to devote to one position and 2) who is willing to transfer here to be a fourth string tackle who will likely never play?

There comes a point where you have to rely on the players you have because you can’t be 4/5 deep at every position on the roster.

Going three and out is what kills you. Going fast doesn’t increase your chance of going three and out. If anything you’re more likely to pick up a first down catching a defense off guard than being slow and deliberate. We went three and out waaaay more running Gattis’ slow *** offense than we did going super fast under Lashlee.

We can add better DTs and not necessarily up numbers. Push a jag or two out to the portal.

What DT would get pushed out? Currently on the roster we have Leonard Taylor, JHH, Gore and Deen who just transferred in, and Ahmed Moten who’s currently our only NT/1 tech player. I know they want to bring in another big guy that would give them 3 deep at each tackle spot.

The problem we had was being insanely inconsistent on first down and being statistically overly good on third down.
