Should we have a football season?

If we play I will go if allowed. I am supposedly in the high risk category yet I am willing to take the risk and expect no sympathy if I contact the virus, after all there are plenty of other things that can kill me, the risk of driving to Miami is probably higher then the virus. I want to live until I die as we all will someday, confinement is NOT LIVING!

One missing alternative is moving the games away from high population areas, Orlando and Tampa are safer then Miami.

I hear people saying that the games should be on TV and it will be so easy.

I think people do not realize how Football Television production is done.
There's a plethora of people and staff for these games, many of whom are not social distancing in small confined spaces, press boxes and vans outside the stadium.

Are we going to have these people wear Hazmat suits?
Social Distancing during Television production of a sport is not easy to do.
Unless you want basic camera angles (maybe a field level and an overhead cam that is robotic anyway and the ever popular blimp cam), very few commentators and reporters Or they could just have local radio guys do the play-by-play but that would be horrible too and a bunch of commercials they go to during technical difficulties.

It is going to be interesting how it all turns out.

.

We will play this year. I have no doubt. People are going back to work, and May just started.

The smart people in charge are all speaking publicly about how dangerous the situation is and how we have to monitor it. And they're canceling HS camps and meaningless **** like that, but they're not canceling this season unless there's another gigantic outbreak after businesses start reopening en masse.

Kids will return to college campuses. Some will get sick. Most will recover.

People will start forgetting about this whole thing once it comes off the 24/7 TV news cycle, and it will do that as soon as everything starts reopening barring another shutdown.
As I replied in another post in this thread, I think the prudent thing to do is plan to start the season in October. This would give the NCAA and schools a month to evaluate how campuses are doing so they could shift to a plan B January-February start if needed without starting and then interupting the season if the pandemic gets out of hand.

I agree that there's going to be students that get sick. This will haven everywhere until we have a vaccine. It's all a matter of can we keep it under control. We have to be able to test and isolate to prevent hospitals from getting overrun.

Moving the games would just bring the virus to other areas if you have fans attend. If fans aren't allowed to attend, then theirs no reason to move the game.

They're doing the daily news right now with a crew and whatnot and no one is wearing Hazmat suits. There's no reason that in 4+ months from now they can't have a TV production of football games.

One thought I have to improve public safety at games is to require everyone to wear masks. This includes fans, coaches, players, refs, cheerleaders, etc. All players except the QB must wear gloves. Players could wear neck gaiters to cover their faces. I've already ordered a Canes neck gaiter to go over my Covid PPE.🤗

Fans must consume food and beverages outside of the seating area and away from other people. It would hurt concessions, but at least we'd have football.

Doing things in a Television Studio with people reading prompts in front of a camera is one thing.

Sports broadcasts that are good productions have vans and trucks outside of a stadium and are a little more complex and not totally scripted. It is very hectic producing something away from a base studio.

You are comparing apples and oranges.

Agree to disagree, but at the end of the day the sports broadcasting industry is one of the most competitive industries in the world. TV networks could easily find broadcasters willing to announce games and crews willing to make it happen if some people with those highly coveted jobs don't want to do it. So if it's a question of can it be done, yes, it can rather easily.

It can be done.

Hence, I said it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

But people should not complain if the production level is crap. And I am expecting it to be crap for various reasons.

:snoopfacepalm:
The season should start as close to the original schedule as possible. I sea know reason why a limited number of fans can't be in the stands as well. Masks will probably bee required and tailgating eliminated.

Canedog nose that some universities may decide not two go fourword with football or any other sports. NASCAR, Major League Baseball, and the NBA, will show weather it can bee done safely, or knot.

In 1968 when the Hong Kong flu ravished the country, life went on. The Chi Com Wuhan virus may bee more deadly but at some point life musk go on with centsable precautions.

Even worked in a Tesla reference; nice! 😉

They could hire all college kids to do the broadcasts, as they are far less susceptible to harsh effects of COVID.

Well said Fraggle and I completely agree with you.

On the Totem pole of concerns about having a football season, ability to field a TV crew willing to brave the dangers of COVID-19 and be on television ranks somewhere near the bottom.

With such a plan in place I can't imagine anything that could possibly go wrong.

Now personally if this doesn’t end soon and reported case along with emptying hospitals really improve and lingers.

I wouldn’t change a thing that were all doing , I / we really don’t need the uppercut knockout punch.

With this being said we really don’t need to give this virus 65,000 plus reasons X’s every other stadium to relapse .

By the time this could possibly end the flu season is right behind this and if it lingers NOT GOOD .

2021 tough pill 💊 swallow but risk is beyond comprehension

Be happy with getting basics opening and expanding as needed.

Right decisions aren’t always easy there frightening at times but long term there wise and safe.

Given that the NFL is planning to start their season on time with contingencies, should college football do the same given its different dynamic of student athletes and college campuses?

Should there be a college football season this year? If yes, then what type of season?

There are basically 4 options:

1. Cancel the season all together.
2. Start the season as normal with contingencies.
3. Play a season without fans in the stands.
4. Start the football season in the Spring 2021 semester (January) when we may have a Covid-19 vaccine.

Given the revenue importance of college football, I think we'll have college footbal at some point. It's just a matter of when and how.

What are your thoughts on the options for the 2020 college football season?

Here's an article on the possible options.
I am over the response to this. One liberal governor trying to outdo the next for “I did more”. Open the season. Besides, it’s 4 months away, how long we really going to pretend covid is floating thru the air like mustard gas after a chemical attack?
