Recruiting is fluid. At this time last year (may be off a month or two) Collins, Bryant, Whitfield, Kearse were all committed. Thomas and Kirkland were thought to be near locks. We hadn't even heard of guys like Figueroa, Odogwu, Elder, Griffin being connected to Miami.

Talking with absolutes like Cook and Sony are gone, it's time to move on is stupid.

It's not even clear, and this comes from a fairly good source, that Kirkland might not have even have had a "commitable" offer.

Gat dammit we need to win some ****ing games.

****ing players ditching out of Miami to go play for the SEC.

dammit mane...!

It's not that, I thnk it's the money. My friends and I, who have followed this stuff for years, have long regarded the southern schools, the SEC and few in the ACC, as the cheating schools. I presume that it's usually money when they take a kid out of his environment and away from the school that they grew up loving.

Where's that guy Conch, who used to post garbage on Grassy. He once let it out that he was one of the top recruits in south Florida back in the early '90's, I believe, a top-rated DB who spurned us for Auburn. The filth is all over the south, yet we get burned for relatively minor infractions.

Years ago, when we lost Eric Metcalf to Texas at the last minute under strange circumstances, our then-Athletic Director, Sam Jankovich, was fuming. He angrily called for the IRS to start doing audits on the families of these kids, to find the unreported income that these people were bringing in. I agree with him, but the federal government, like the NCAA, is bureaucratic, inept, biased, and generally operates at a low level of effectiveness.

@Ridler--we could twenty-five games in a 12 game season and go undefeated once over, and win two national championships at once, and we'd still have trouble with the SEC crooks coming into south Florida with their low academic standards and money.

some of you are so hung up on the sec, it's your boogeyman.

can we do some fact-checking around here before people go spouting this nonsense? i am not saying sec schools don't pay players, they ALL do, but the hyperbole is ridiculous.

please go check the rosters of these sec teams and tell me how many florida players are on there much less from south florida. the numbers are miniscule, and a majority of them weren't even recruited by the big 3 in state. so this bs about sec schools coming to south florida and paying off players is so overblown. for example lsu has two florida players on their team, avery peterson and kadron boone. boone was the only one who had a miami offer. the numbers are similar for other sec teams. some of y'all are paranoid and uninformed.

It won't be Michel. Nobody decommits from a school, commits somewhere else, then decommits to re-commit to the original school. Nobody does that.

He was never committed to us, and players do that every year

See Ole Miss recruiting class for answer!! They brought the Brink's truck this year! Ole Miss knew if they were gonna keep up they would have to pay up!

Avery had an offer also.....

The issue with the SEC isn't neccessarily about paying players, although that is a part of it. At this point a team like Alabama doesn't really need to pay anyone, at least not over market rate lol. It's an issue of perception (earned) and resources. There is a resource gap. It's turning into small market versus big market like other sports. Miami has barely half the budget Alabama and Texas have for football. The money does make a difference. Look at Oregon, the only reason they are now very competative is the massive influx of cash from Phil Knight. The only teams in the ACC with SEC type budgets are Clemson, FSU, and now Louisville.

don't think avery had an offer, but anyway...

regarding the bugets of different schools that has always been the case. in the real world, some have more than others. nobody will ever be able to compete with the likes of texas. same with schools like ohio state, that's just the way it is. huge schools with huge alumni bases and exposure=cash. not sure what you want to be done about it unless you want the ncaa to redistribute ad profits.

Ok so how do you take a "non commitable" offer from a player? that doesnt make sense

Whats this thing that Cook ends up at Miami stuff? I haven't felt that way at all following his recruitment so far.

IDK its something about south florida when you commit to miami its hard to decommit so its mostly when they are confident but of course there has always been exeptions
