MEGA New Miami Adidas Ultraboost🔥 - The Shoe and Nike/Adidas Thread.

This isn’t my field of expertise. But here’s my question. Why wouldn’t Reebok jump back into the game and make Miami their flagship program in this new era? Something like a 10-year $350m

OK, so @Hufftwoseven asked my thoughts. Well, we’re in a weird situation.

Let me preface this by saying that I fully expect us to re-up w Adidas. A while ago I said based upon what I was informed, it made me feel very uneasy & stated I felt it was 75% Adidas / 25% Nike. I will now say 85% Adidas / 15% Nike just b/c I know who’s involved.

Now, here’s y I say this is a weird situation:
•Back in 2015, we signed a “monumental deal” w/ Adidas making us the “Flagship of Adidas” in The ACC.
•2 yrs later (this is important), UL’s deal trumped ours
•2 yrs later, KU’s deal trumped ours
•3 yrs later, UW’s deal trumped ours

But here’s the kicker, Texas A&M decided not to do a long term deal w Adidas; they took a 5 yr deal that expires the same exact day as us.

Here’s what’s interesting:
1. Adidas spent a ****, & I mean a **** ton of $$ to both PSU & UTenn.
2. UL, TAMU, & Miami all r expiring around the same time.
3. Allegedly, Adidas wants in on Utah now, whose contract ALSO expires at the same time as us & TAMU.

As I said yrs ago, signing the 12 yr deal was going to bite us in the *** due to being outdated & now….coming off our best season since 2002, here we r having to compete w TAMU, Adidas potential overpay for Utah, & UL.

So it’s going to be interesting.

Lastly, as I check Miami x Adidas branded merchandise via Adidas: 23
Miami x Adidas via Fanatics: 106

FSU via Nike: 97
FSU x Nike via Fanatics: 335

UF x Nike/JB via Nike: 131
UF x Nike/JB via Fanatics: 292

Then there’s this

There’s also this little habit of Adidas:

At the end of the day, what’s going to happen is going to happen, & it’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

Adidas is going to have to pick which school becomes their frontrunner. We're in a great position due to our recent success to qualify for it, but that means that Adidas has to pony up some cash in order to make that happen.

Nike has sneaky tendencies to make contract offers at the last second. We both know how they operate. I wouldn't be surprised in the end if we wind up being a jumpman school out of nowhere. Nike knows the marketing value that Miami represents all too well.

Adidas does tend to make lower offers to schools who have pre-existing contracts for the sheer belief of loyalty. I wouldn't put percentages on the deal yet. Seen this happen a couple of years ago in my home country lmao

I think we will by far be Adidas #1 priority going forward. Which is why I think we will get best offer from them.

This is just magical thinking.

You have zero basis for saying this. In fact, you have evidence AGAINST this statement, like adidas rushing out to give Louisville a better deal, even though we had a most-favored-nations clause.

Nike had us wearing this garbage for 7 years. The uniforms before that only lasted from 2004-2006. The ones before that only from 2000-2003. I didn’t understand why we kept changing uniforms so quickly and then they left us stuck with this bs for so long smh.

Sure. That 2/3rds has a cash-value though.

Good lord, your ****porsts are the worst.

Everyone gets equipment. Everyone gets marketing. But cash is cash. Cash pays the bills. Helmets and shoulder pads don’t pay the bills. You can’t pay an assistant coach in cleats and jockstraps.

If Nike offers us $7M of equipment per year and adidas offers us $8M of equipment per year, should we sign with adidas? Anyone can value anything any way they want, it doesn’t make it true.

You have obviously never worked in the corporate world.

“Cash value”. Yeah. Like we would sell all that gear on eBay to pay the bills…

I get the complaints about the adidas gear, and Nike is definitely considered the premier brand.

But our uniforms from 2000-2015 were mostly garbage. Adidas was a breath of fresh air when they took over.
Our current uniforms are the best we’ve probably ever had. The last few years of Nike they gave us quite a few duds. I remember the last version of their uniforms had that orange stripe on the pants that was all faded out and it looked like our guys were playing in three year old uniforms that had been through the wash too many times. Whoever makes our gear going forward should just stick to what works and keep the current uniform.

Love me some Fred Berry!

Did you know that Rerun and his dance troupe, The Lockers, appeared on the THIRD EVER episode of Saturday Night Live in 1975, hosted by Rob Reiner (I have the first 5 seasons on Blu-Ray)? Plus, he's from The Lou.

Married 6 times. To 4 women. Crazy stuff.

I knew you’d appreciate Rerun 🤣

We signed the Scottie Pippen contract of apparel

Cut the crap and be real for a minute.

Nike didn't force us to do that. Review the timeline. We had THREE different AD's during that time (Hocuntt, the Shermanator, and Beta Blake). That's not an excuse. It's an explanation for the fact that the Athletic Department was largely rudderless during that time. Hocuntt was busy trying to get back to his alma mater, the Texas Tech Gamblin' Raiders. The Shermanator was busy trying to get back to his alma mater, Nebraska.

And then, for the last two years of the Nike deal, Beta Blake was busy converting our equipment and uniform allotments into straight cash payments. Yes, what @Brooklyndee says about the last couple of years of the Nike deal is true, but not because Nike "didn't love Miami". It was because Beta Blake was cutting our equipment and uniforms in order to take cash payments prior to awarding the deal to adidas.

Sad, but true.
