Ken Dorsey

Are you just saying this about Butch as HC? I kinda get what you are saying there, or understand your concern as far as Butch having no offensive background at all. Are you saying you would consider him under a candidate that has more experience on offense, or more of a background where Dorsey doesn't have complete control or whatever?

Like I said, I see where you are coming from in that regard. But we I'll settle to say agree to disagree on that. I see a good match there, and I would love to see Butch as HC and Dorsey as OC. I see a lot of potential in Dorsey that is waiting to be shown off. Why not at Miami before he heads on to a long career as OC in the NFL?

I would prefer, if KD is your guy, to have him be an OC under a guy like Chip. Chip would be a back-up and great teacher.

Having him with Butch reeks of UNC pt II.

I see what you are saying there. Look, I'm not attacking you and your opinion on this situation. Butch has shown he's not a great gameday coach, he's not an offensive guru by any means whatsoever. Dorsey lacks experience, but he's going to be a great OC and you can see it and you can read Rivera and Shula's opinions on him everywhere.

But with every question I have regarding the 2 together at UM.. I see it as a perfect match and exactly what Miami needs. I hope Korn Ferry and UM do a good enough job in this search and put enough money in to get new blood, a new candidate out there. If it's Butch and Dorsey though, I'm not going to lie, they are going to bring back to this program a lot of stuff that has seriously lacked sense the 2 of them left, Butch in 2000 and Dorsey a few years later. It's going to bring back the leadership, discipline, energy, and just that "it" factor UM has lost for more than a decade. Butch may not be the best HC, and Dorsey may not be the best OC, but they bring exactly what this program needs right now and it might just be crazy enough to work and put us back to the top.

That being said, it would be beyond stupid to pass on a Chip Kelly, Gary Patterson, among many others for Butch this time around. But if you miss on those guys, Butch for 5 years, if that's all he's got left, is going to turn this program in the right direction and where it needs to be.

I stopped reading at perfect match. Agree to disagree as UNC wasn't a clear enough example of my point.

Lol well you missed a pretty decent point in the post and my stance on the entire thing. I'm not even one of the " Butch or nothing" guys on this board that are turning me against him. The scenario right now, as D$ referenced, almost seems perfect. Butch coming back (not taking over a **** hole for the first time in his career), Ken Dorsey returns, coaches a QB from Cali, pro style QB, etc etc. Seems pretty perfect to me right now.

Could end up a total bust, but the look of it is pretty surreal.

"Perfect" is Patterson or Kelly. Irrational is Butch with Dorsey.

Agree to disagree. I am going to move on, you can have the pair in your fantasy Miami coaching league.

I'd call Dan Mullen. Tom Herman. Hear out Dino Babers. Those are just names that are "realistic". I don't have the "we're never gonna get that guy" attitude that you have about some of the other guys mentioned.

What has Dan Mullen actually accomplished? This is his seventh season at Mississippi State. By Butch's sixth season, he had built the best team in history despite crippling sanctions.

I like Herman and would love the hire. But there are already reports that he's not interested in any current opening. Dino Babers has two years of FBS coaching experience and that's in the MAC.

Since we're living in the past. What had Jimmy Johnson done playing 3rd or 4th fiddle in the Big 8? What is the ceiling on Miss State football in that conference? Realistically they probably should be 6th in the pecking order in the SEC West. Do they overachieve? What did he take over when he got there? You use the sanctions as context for Butch. Context applies to Dan Mullen as well.

I actually think he's a good coach. The reason I don't want him at Miami is because his offense depends too much on quarterback running to suit our receiver-rich talent base.

The point is that Butch has proven a **** of a lot more than Mullen has.

Dak Prescott threw for almost 3500 yards and 25 TDs last year. Having a great year this year too. Mullen can coach talented QBs. Good coaches adapt to personnel. I don't see it as an issue with him

It took him six years to find the right QB to run his offense. Even at UF, he struggled to adapt to Chris Leak. He was bailed out by the arrival of Tebow and some sensational defenses.

There just aren't that many power runners who can throw, and those guys don't traditionally come to Miami.

Gonna save this thread and by chance if Dorsey is hired as OC and tanks. I don't wanna see a **** person up in here wishing he comes, dogging the man.

If you read the rest of what I said you would see that I said I prefer Patterson or Kelly

Why is it that all the people who want Butch and Strong also want to fill the staff with former players who have never coached the job they'd be hired for?

None of these people watch football outside of Miami, and def never watched the team pre-2000.

I will absolutely own up to my words if he tanks. If he doesn't, I don't expect an apology or anything I'll just let you guys enjoy real Miami football.

So winning a NC in year 2 isn't impressive to you. Mullen isn't impressive to you.

But the 4-8 Texas coach in year who has given a new meaning to ****ting the bed---that guy impresses you?

If you read what I said, I clearly called for the fact that the program needs new blood. I don't want all Miami coaching staff, or anything close to that. The only thing I said here is, if it's Butch, Dorsey should be his OC and deserves it. Other than that, no Mario, no Schiano, nothing attached to old Miami football. We need new blood as our HC and I clearly said I'd take several names above Butch, I'm just saying "if it's Butch"

Also as far as the rest of the staff.. I'm not one of those that the only DL coach I say is Kevin Patrick, I dont want Ed Reed coaching DBs, etc. There are more guys out there and I've said it on this site plenty of times.

If it's Butch, we need a maaaaajor OC to have a prayer. Not a 34 year old who has never called plays before.

See Post #88 .

Getting a lot of face time on CBS. Cam Newton looks sensational. Would love to see what Dorsey could do with Brad Kaaya.

As QB coach? Sure.

As OC? No thanks. I'm not interested in any more wet behind the ears dudes, or satisfying some longing for the past.

You understand that's a perfectly normal career progression right?

Of course. But not at Miami when we need to hire the best staff in 2 decades. That's what people don't get. Miami shouldn't be hiring "learn on the job" coaches right now. Do you understand that?
