Highsmith Rumor

Did not happen. Mario did not have the payola to get the guys he wanted and left when Bama provided that for recruits. He took Becker and Ridley with him. Golden wanted him to makeup for recruiting lacks on his staff just as fields is now.
Mario left after Jimmy told him to take the job with Saban. His family and friends also told him he had to go and backed him.

what does Highsmith know about running a swim team?
if he wants to be involved in football, recruiting, and boosters, give him some high level position but keep him away from the AD position. he is not qualified
What does Blake James? Nothing he was the head of ticket sales at University of Maine before being AD at Miami. You hire Asst. AD and other positions to cover your weaknesses just as any successful manager should and does. Are people really this stupid?

Guys, I heard Jon Gruden will be our next head coach with Butch Davis as our DC and Mike Leach as our OC. Players have been notified. Please welcome our new DB and LB coaches: Ed Reed and Ray Lewis!
Sauces say we will have two new DL coaches: Warren Sapp and Dwayne Johnson.

@Kevin Stupid rumor.

Alonzo is literally on the verge of being an nfl GM. Dude is highly regarded in the league.
@Era66 Maybe the man wants a new challenge in life.

Riggght, Like running a NFL team as a GM is not challenging enough??? Goodness the stigma of our fans man and what College Football sees US ... Is soooo CORRECT!

EVERYONE STOP THIS MADNESS!!! WE DO NOT WANT HIGHSMITH AS OUR AD PLEASE!

MODS could we do a PURGE ???

Some of you all need get out your head that just because some one was great playing the game doesn't necessarily mean they will be great at running a team! There are so many highly qualified individuals that have expertise in the AD field. We just have to take our time in our search and do our due diligence. You all want another rush hire again ??? HUH??? MANNY=HC??? , HIGHSMITH= AD??? Get my drift....

Good GRIEF= WE NEED SOME GOOD CANE NEWS! ASAP

Being an AD and being a GM in the NFL are not really the same skill sets.
They aren't, but at the same time they are a bit. At the end of the day both need to manage a budget (salary cap or UM's budget) and identify talent.
People are jumping ship. Maybe the writing is on the wall. Granted this is a huge promotion.

It is not really. It is a small foundation. One less person that need to get fired from Hecht.

What does Phillip Fulmer know about running a swim team? Barry Alvarez when he got the Wisconsin gig? Just because he doesn’t know doesn’t mean he can’t surround himself with b
people that do.

Position may not be a promotion but college to Pros is. Right? Honest question.

People bag on the Diaz hire because he never served as a head coach of a football program, which is a significant weakness of his in his resume.

I love Highsmith, but everyone is just fine handing over the keys to someone who's never ran an athletic administration in his entire career? Being a personnel director and being the head of all things at athletics are not the same thing whatsoever.

BRING IN EXPERIENCE. If Blake goes, I want someone who's been an athletic director, has turned around athletic programs before, and won't be learning on the job for the first two years.

Oliver Luck (Andrew's dad) was the AD of West Virginia.

He ran a soccer club before that.

This idea that an AD has to be well versed in all sports is ridiculous.

They just have to know how to evaluate winning qualities of a program and identify leaders. These ae skills that can be transferrable from sport to sport.

Theres a reason why the Washington ownership group was willing to shell out 100 million dollars to the Raptors GM (he stayed) to run their organization, including hockey.

He is moving to the Miami Dolphins Foundation. I can't imagine the Dolphins really care that much about it. It is maybe a slight move up, maybe more visibility within their organization than the whole of the university. If you are more focused on the exempt organizations/fundraising side of things, this job will certainly lean more in that direction. If I had to guess, once you reach senior AD, your next move is AD and that has a lot more administrative tasks behind it. If it were run like a normal not for profit and paid as such, it was maybe a small step up salary wise.
