Hardest CFB jobs (from The Athletic)

The stadium thing is utter bunk and I'm so tired of it. I sat in the Orange Bowl with 38K tops more afternoons than I can count IN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP YEARS.
Attendance is not a major issue but it’s clear Miami lacks the game day experience most blue chip programs have. This is third tier issue but it’s a negative. (Note, when we are good, hard rock at night is a top 5 venue but this happens once every 16 years based on recent results)

Football facilities are good not great. As many point out, we won with a ****** weight room. The big distinction between today and years past is the sports science recovery and nutritional work. Elite pro teams monitor post practice/game recovery and actively manage recovery. I’m not sure what we do but I’d bet it’s a lot less than elite schools.

Positive or negative, as long as it is anonymous, I assume the sources aren't real and its the writer's opinions.
not quite how that works. you wouldn't have a source if you revealed it. he prolly got it from the same dudes talking to Barry Jackson about money they're willing to spend

as Alex jones said, its about money. you gotta spend it to improve your program.

Were the interviews for this article done in 2006?

Also.. the fanbase here isn’t on campus. Enough with this on campus stadium bullshlt. Unless u Wanna see a team playing in front of nobody, then put the stadium on campus

No. Thebig distinction between today and years past is a coaching staff that gets bottom 20 results with top 20 recruiting classes. That’s it. Everything else handles itself when the product on the field is good.

Sometimes you guys that want to (and rightfully so) attack the administration are too quick to dilute your arguments by regurgitating a lot of lazy nonsense that were just basically talking points used against us in recruiting battles.

Like seriously shut up with the "but the stadium is 45 mins away and da derp derp derp student section derp derp derp" shtick. About as dumb as anyone mentioning "academic support staff" too.

Maybe those talking points are talking points for a reason?

Seems like you’re wanting to shoot the messenger rather than blame the ones who really deserve the blame - the admin.

Not building a stadium when Schnelly wanted one, and then allowing the OB to be torn down is 100% on the admin. Now we play on a teal rent-a-field in Miami Gardens, and we’re supposed to be cool with that?

And academic support is 100% relevant because it affects how much time the kids have to hit the jugs machines or get in the film room. The best programs make classwork a breeze so the athletes can focus on their craft.

The difference is Bama can make mistakes, plenty of them, and still have unlimited funds to fix whatever the problem is.

For sure. And to be clear, we won’t Get and we don’t need the bama model. We need a competent HC and a solid staff who can recruit, add some extra staff members to be analysts, recruiting staff, beef up the S&C/nutrition program (not huge money needed here) and your on field product should translate to 9-10+ wins every year and coupled with top 10-12 ranked recruiting classes. That’s the model.

There's a reason people keep saying the stadium isn't an issue. It's because they know the area and have been to games. An on campus stadium or one even slightly closer to campus would actually draw fewer fans. Do you really think all those Golden Canes are going to write big checks to go and sit in bleachers after they've had luxury suites?

Show me an on campus stadium with stadium seats, plenty of room for tailgating and dining options like this.

they've made mistakes. they had a huge period of bad football till they threw money at Saban.

LSU is about to make their mistake go away bc they can.

we won't ever be elite. we can be competitive and good yearly esp in this division.

Voters (60 people working in CFB) were asked to list their toughest five jobs in order of preference.

This is full of falsehoods that will never ever go away because it is easier to cut and paste information from a dozen years ago than to do 15 minutes of research. And they asked 60 people in cfb? Wow. Most P5 athletic directors don't have the time or interest to sit down and fill out an anonymous survey that rates other football programs for some obscure online website. Has the Athletic Director at Cal-Berkeley been to Hard Rock in the last three years? Toured the new facilities at UM ? My guess is no. So the AD, if he actually bothers to fill out the survey, will just repeat what was being said a decade ago (or far more likely he tells his interns to fill out the survey and they are just writing down what they found on Google about UM from 2008). A UM AD with balls would put The un-Athletic on blast and mock them for fake journalism.

The Athletic released an article of the hardest jobs in CFB. Miami came in 6th of hardest P5 Jobs, behind Vandy, Kansas, Nebraska, Texas and Washington State, in that order. They polled 60 people in CFB. This is the write up on Miami:

“Miami should be better than what they are from the outside looking in, but it doesn’t look like they’ve invested in their program to give them a chance,” a Power 5 athletic director said, citing a lack of nutrition and strength staff and academic support compared to powers like Alabama and Clemson.

A Group of 5 assistant agreed and pointed out the team’s spotty fan attendance: “Miami is hard. There are no resources. There are big expectations while playing at ‘The U,’ but you’re also playing in front of nobody.”

The team plays at a pro stadium 45 minutes from campus, making attendance difficult when the Canes aren’t dominant and giving the stadium a significant disadvantage without a student section, the rowdiest portion of any crowd. Multiple respondents also cited poor facilities at Miami that raise the degree of difficulty in recruiting, even when there is so much local talent. Other programs in the state can raid the area’s top prospects.

Did the people contributing to this article base their opinions from 20 years ago? I wish people would stop talking about bad facilities or the student section being the loudest part of the stadium historical. Gfafb

in Miami, you need the amenities esp with decreasing attendance numbers as more people prefer the home env.

the issue is this is what people perceive Miami to be. that's what matters the most.

With competence we can be like OU. A bunch of 10-11 win seasons , go to the playoff every 2-3 years and who knows? Get a special qb and win a title. Will we be like we were? No, but a top ten program is there to be had if we actually cared. We’ve been recruiting in the 10-12 range under manny , imagine if we were actually good and have a ****?
