Guys please, we gotta chill with the TVD stuff

First things first this is not me on a soapbox. I’m directing this at me and hopefully others think about it too

I’m not saying don’t criticize this kid. He’s playing miserably at the moment

But this kid is the quarterback of the team we all love and the comments making insinuations about his mental health are things we need to check ourselves on

Something is up with him. Maybe it really is that he doesn’t give a ****. Maybe he thinks it’s funny to throw INTs

I’m betting that’s not true

He’s obviously hurt. Hopefully he’s been checked for concussions and hopefully behind closed doors he’s getting the help he needs

But the thing is none of us know what’s going on and venting our frustrations on a kid that has taken the field injured about 100x we gotta watch what we say when it comes to mental health

If you’ve ever been through therapy, you know you don’t just show up and some psychologist fixes you overnight

As fans let’s not take the frustration of some parts of the season out on anyone, TVD or whoever, where we treat our players like the sick ***** we see online from other teams

Criticize appropriately but let’s not be those fans
Yea the insults get carried away. I'ts ok to acknowledge someone is bad without wishing ill on them.

the problem is that people move the goalposts of their expectations

most on here said 8-4 or 7-5 before the season.. some fools even said 6-6

now we're 6-2 (a kneel away from 7-1) and most likely will have a solid chance to make the ACC title game with a puncher's chance to win each of the next 4 games we play.

yet after the A&M game, it went from 7-5 expectation to undefeated and the second we start slipping the "fans" on here and twitter turn absolutely toxic and they are idiots if they think that doesn't impact some players and recruits

anyone who said 8-4 or worse in the season prediction thread can go ahead and shut the **** up and be happy that we're on pace with what they expected to begin with
PREACH!! Been saying this all day and posters just want to ignore this singular point. The only people who should be absolutely ****ed off are the people who predicted 10-2, 11-1 or 12-0. Everyone else, you lookin crazy right now.

yep

and to be fair anyone who predicted 12-0, 11-1, or 10-2 based on last season and just the offseason should probably checked into a mental institution

absolutely we are moving in the right direction

I think this is fair enough, and this should be an easy line to draw. We can criticize his play, but all the stuff about his mental health is inappropriate. I think someone on another site started a thread asking whether TVD has autism. I mean, let's not be idiots.

Rinse. Repeat. Lay off the dude’s mental heath but hope he’s got help in that area if he needs it.

TVD sucks when he’s not in rhythm and when that’s the case, he atrocious.

When TVD is cooking, he’s ******* fuccin cookin…

Its the coaches’ job to put him, Emory and the whole offense in the kitchen and let them cook… instead of looking like we pass because the staff feels they have to, tighten up all the time and look lost…

Its game 8 and the OL has been steady, receivers aren’t dropping every other pass…

We came out of the BYE week and the O appears to have gone puckered ****.

No more excuses. Run it down their ******* throats or create space and huck it around. Whatever works. Other teams look competent, we look constipated.

I find it amusing what some "fans" on this board think goes on in a college locker room and the effort it takes to get on the field as a starter and to play through a season with the normal nagging injuries just about everyone deals with whose position requires hitting someone or being hit. Just from the game, you ache and hurt for a couple days; if you have injuries on top of that, good luck. If you miss a few practices, you drop down the depth chart. And it's not in most guys DNA to whine or complain about it. Your teammates are counting on you.

The Canes are 6-2, should be 7-1, or could be 4-4. For every crappy throw or pick TVD made, he made good enough decisions to get us to 5-1 while he's been under center because he didn't fumble at GT or get beat in coverage that turned the W into a L.

TVD's got the skills; he's playing through some injuries, and we have four more games. No coach is going to sit him because of a semi-hysterical fan base that has thought we were back every August for 20 years.

Indeed

I was plenty happy about the win my man. Doesn't mean TVD didn't suck yesterday, again

Be interesting to see where they go this week

I get wanting to push a kid through a slump but we also still have a shot at a good season

I won’t say it but you know what I’m thinking when it comes to the people in charge of these decisions
I think it might be enough to keep giving him safe throws and leaning on the running game. It wasn’t pretty, but it worked. Maybe he’ll come around. As long as we still win the games, I’m fine with being loyal to the kid. He’s stuck by us, we should show him the same respect as far as possible. And for now, anybody wanting a change is just being petty because the offense isn’t as much fun to watch. I’d like to enjoy the games more, but if he can do enough to win I’m happy to keep trying to work out his troubles on the field.

Politically Correct Outter Voice Tru C:

“Good post OP. Sometimes we lose sight that these are just young men playing a game. Overall, we definitely can do a better job being supportive, that includes me!”

Realistic Inner Voice Tru C:

“Dat mu ****** make 5011 million a year. He keep throwing the ball to the defense, he can take his *** back home to CT and go to Yale if he wants to be a real student athlete.”

Criticize the play not the player.

The gameday threads are a perfect example of the “what have you done for me lately” crowd. One bad play, and many are calling to empty the bench. The next play is a good one and “We Byke!”

I always cringe when I see any player attacked on a personal level. Remember when we were 18-22 years old and all the things we dealt with and then compound that by being a D1 football player - which BTW, the vast majority of us never have been.

IMO it's the hand injury causing him to have confidence issues that are affecting his play.
It's affecting his ability to throw so it's taking him longer to make his reads because in his mind he has to determine if he can make the throw instead of just letting it go. That delay closes the window and leads to the int's and the int's further leads to the confidence issues.
You just nailed it.

This place has been unbearably toxic for the past week. Crazy thing is, it’s people who usually don’t post who are driving it

I don’t know how anyone can look at TVDs first pick to X and not realize he is hurt. He has never been short on a go route like that. Tells me he can’t step into his throws because of his knee.

Good post

Last week you were vomiting all over every post that complimented Emory and suggested he should start if TVD wasn’t 100%.

Now you’re whining about fans criticizing TVD.

To be clear, I agree 100% with the original post of this thread.

But YOU are responsible for creating the toxicity you’re now complaining about.

There's actually been a number of psych studies done on the subject. When a fan's personal life gets to a point where they define themselves by their sports teams' success, that's when they lose sight of what's truly real.

Maybe a message from DJ Williams can change some folks tune around here.

In general what you said is correct, but we’ve seen this movie before. Barely skating by dog **** teams and losing to the good teams on the schedule, with a head scratching loss mixed in. Same thing happened with Manny, Richt, etc.

Be happy the team is 6-2 but no need to pound your chest and demean people who think this team has generally underperformed, bc in ACC play, they have.

Aren't people saying he has a bruise from his shin to his kidney area? to go with the knee and fingers? Not to excuse the mental lapse but the kid is apparently really hurt. That hit he took on the td pass in the nc game was brutal.
