ATHENS — Most of the men who ran Georgia’s strength and conditioning program last year are following Mark Richt to Miami.

Gus Felder, John Thomas and Kelin Johnson are set to join Richt’s strength and conditioning staff at Miami, according to multiple people familiar with the situation.

One person said Felder is likely to head up Richt’s S&C program, but that could not be immediately confirmed.

Felder is a former Penn State player who has been on Georgia’s staff since 2014. He ran the S&C programs at two smaller schools, Clark Atlanta and Cheyney, prior to coming to Georgia.

Thomas was Georgia’s associate strength and conditioning coach since 2012, essentially the No. 2 man on the staff, after serving as Joe Paterno’s head S&C coordinator for two decades.

Johnson is a former defensive back for Richt at Georgia. He re-joined the program as a graduate assistant a few years ago, then joined the strength program last year.

1 Head S&C and up to 4 staff. It wasn't just Swasey all these years.

This is correct so, there will be two more hires on S&C team. We don't know who the Head S&C coach is, so one of those 2 other hires may be the guy that will be the Head coach of the s&c.

How the **** does this make more sense than bringing in Ivey?

Why do you think Ivey was under consideration?

Richt said every since he let Swasey go that he was bringing in someone he was familiar and comfortable with.

Georgia has never been a team to get pushed around so I think I will trust Richt on this.

Pete said Ivey was the front runner.

You're gonna ***** about this hire like you're some kind of S&C expert or something?

You didn't have a ******* clue who Ivey was before this month. Now you're gonna ***** about this hire like you know anything about Felder?

Shut the **** up.

Again I ask...is there any competent opinion to compare/contrast UGA vs UM recent S&C programs?

If UGAs is better...why so?

IF it is, then it would appear UM has an upgrade so we are headed in right direction.

Also, is there a competent opinion on UGA vs Mizzou S&C these past few years?

I have to be honest, if S&C at Mizzou was so great under Ivey, then why didnt that translate into more wins?

Maybe the marginal (if any) advantage wasnt enough of a difference maker?

Don't let "perfect" become the enemy of good enough.

This. He could only name two guys before and now he think he knows which are good and bad. Uga was never pushed around and under developed so I'm fine w the hires. Richt knows more about s n c and than anyone on this website including Pete.
