Gus Felder new S&C coach

I'm going to cry because the only two names I knew weren't hired.

Well that makes you an uninformed imbecile whose opinion on the matter should have no import to actual adults - you only know two SC coaches' names that were potential candidates and you think you are qualified to have any opinion of merit regarding who UM hires as SC coach? The fact is you came up with two names (likely Ivey and Moffit) because every half-wit on this board began puppet-ting them over and over on this board because some guy who has never lifted a day in his life tweeted he heard from someone one name. UM just hired basically the SC staff from the University of Georgia which included the guy that was regarded as one of the top SC coaches for over a decade at Penn State. Georgia and Penn State...you think those programs know a bit about SC...lol. Stop having such a strong opinion on a subject you know nothing about. There is virtually no one on this board that has any opinion on the SC component of a university athletic department that has any credibility whatsoever - most here are overweight, middle aged, beta males, that spend more time on a Canes message board than actually lifting. Most here have never trained a day in their life hard enough to bust a blood vessel in their eye because they couldn't turn a squat over from the bottom or did pyramid sets of 100 reps of legs presses that shocked your body so much that your kidneys started producing urine every 10 minutes for 4 hours. Sit back, take the opinion of a few of the non-Beta, non-whiny, non-figgats, whose girlfriend's are not getting trained on by actual men, and see what they have to say. This rock star SC cult of personality that began to creep in here was absurd. You think there are only two guys in the country that know how to teach skinny malnourished Africans from the hood how to deadlift? GTFO man. You are a moron, so I don't imagin you will understand my point, but in summary, 1) dont form such strong beliefs about things your are uninformed about, 2) do not listen to a bunch of meely-mouth bishes on a Canes forum who have never facking even attempted an Olympic lift regarding their opinion of strength training, 3) understand that there are many very qualified guys beyond the two you learned about in the last 3 days that bring a huge amount of knowledge and understanding to SC training, 4) and this i most important, the quality of SC staff that was just brought in has stool samples that know more than the ignoramus that was fired. You are akin to a voter in a democracy that votes for a candidate because you like his hair as you are too dumb to actually learn about his policy ideas. Stop being an embarrassment and grow a pair you pansy.

Have you switched back to regular from decaf?

Why do we have to hire all these first time coaches??

I know the answer - it's because they were players for Richt and he feels like he owes them

But that's the wrong path IMO. OK...so you're not gonna pony up and go after a proven big time guy....but what's to stop them from hiring the S&C guy at Baylor or TCU or Boise State or Utah etc? Are you really telling me this kid is the best we can do?

lol no one cares about your opinion. last i checked, you've never coached a day in your life. let the guy we spent 4 mill on do his job and judge his work in the fall. you dont know **** about anything other than whatever google tells you.

So only college football coaches should give their opinions on here?

The problem is you are complaining about every single ****in move. Richt has won 145 games so i think he knows what the **** he is doing. Yes he can still make bad hires but with the success he has had he has made moe good decisions than bad.

That's not true. I like Mark Richt, Coach Kool, and Searls. I like the RB coach. I hated the Diaz hire initially but I'd call it "average" now. I don't like the Safeties coach, CB coach, TE coach, or Richt hiring his son. I don't like the S&C hire if this guy is the head guy.

So you see, I like some hires and dislike others.

Agreed.

I think the Richt hire is Average. Richt was fired for Under-Achieving at UGA. Now all of a sudden he is a Stud. MR hasn't produced anything since 2005.

Average hires are in line with who Richt is. After being hired by Miami, Richt did not raid top programs for elite assistants. Outside of Coach Kool, Richt hired average Assistants.

I don't think Richt was too happy with the protesting that Ivey promoted.

Why......MR is more interested in saving souls than wins.

Why do you think the new coach at Missouri let Ivey go? I promise you it wasn't his ability to coordinate a strength program. Personally I'm indifferent to what Ivey did or didn't do regarding that but it can rub people the wrong way.

Don't know. He did not keep coach Kool either.

yeah, that's why he jumped on the first big coaching opportunity that he could instead just taking his $4 million+ buyout and going to preach. get the **** out of here with that ****. the new posters here are half retarded.

Half?

eh there's a decent few, and i'd like to at least give the mongoloids the benefit of the doubt until they prove otherwise.

The night UM was decimated by L$U in the Chick-fil-a bowl in 2005 I passed by the UGA and W. Va. teams as they walked in to attend the game (prior to their January 2nd Sugar Bowl game relocated to Atlanta due to Katrina). I am 6'3" 230 and the UGA players made me feel like an elf, biggest team I have ever been around. If these guys can reshape the Canes, we will be very successful.

It's a totally different staff

This guy we hired was the #2 guy at UGA...not even the head guy....and he started in 2012

Former player for Richt who thought he'd give S&C a try

Are you talking about John Thomas? Because he was the #1 guy at Penn St for years

I'm talking about Gus Felder - that's who is supposedly our S&C head guy now

John Thomas as an assistant S&C guy I have no problem with, same for Felder (as an assistant, not the top guy)

He's been with Thomas for many years. If I had to guess, he'd be named the head man because he's younger and probably has more energy. But it's still John Thomas's system and philosophies being used. What's the difference? They'd be working together as a team.
Can you give any insight on the speed/strength combination of UGAs players? Please forgive my ignorance I'm no S&C expert. As someone that didn't watch much of UGA football was wondering how they looked on game day. Also I seem to remember they suffered a lot of injuries over the past few years. Is that a due to the S&C program or something else?

So what ever happened to the big bucks Miami was going to spend on a staff. We have no actual OC. DC was from a low end SEC school who was a toxic name in the business. OL is a solid journeyman. DL is a stud hire. S&C are two assistants. And everything else is guys with minimal or no experience.

I was told that they would spend 4+ on the head coach and they did exactly that. As far as assistants, when all the details come out about salaries then we'll be able to compare against other programs.

I want nothing from PSU. We have no idea what sort of nest was up there and are now importing more potential showers boys from that cesspool. Getting harder and harder to treat Mark with any sort of faith, blind or otherwise. Plus, UGA staff did not win NC's, it got its HC fired. Not exactly the happy hunting grounds for coaches to replace staff that got another HC fired. Mark better win fast, hard and repeatedly.

Do we really know how much they spent on him? The man got fired from his last gig and his opportunities to coach were here or UVA. We werent exactly bidding on some hot commodity.

And it was made clear multiple times that Miami was going to have a large budget for assistants. Clearly not the case given who we ended up with.

You guys realize Destruction is FullyERicht right?? He had to make another name to back himself up.. BraindeadCane wasn't cutting it...

Not a lot if info on Felder based on his UGA bio (see blow), but resume seems pretty light. Thomas is a long-time SC vet, but as discussed in the detail the Ivey thread, he historically subscribed to the training method that is vastly different than the Hatch/Moffit stye that is so dominant today. And wonder why no Hocke?

Hard to get real excited about this, just on paper at least.

---A former standout at Penn State University, Gus Felder, brings over a decade of coaching experience to the University of Georgia Strength & Conditioning program. Felder was named Assistant Strength & Conditioning Specialist with the Bulldog Nation in 2014.

Felder obtained his Master of Education Degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Health Education from Penn State while serving as a graduate assistant football coach. He was also groomed there as an undergraduate and earned his bachelor's in Kinesiology.

Felder played four years with the Nittany Lions from 1998-2002 and was named to the All Big Ten team in 2001 and 2002 at the left tackle and guard positions. After a short stint in the National Football League (NFL) with the Cleveland Browns, he began his coaching career in the high school ranks with Simon Gratz High School (Philadelphia), Melbourne High School (Florida), and State College Area High School (State College Pa) as head and assistant coaching positions. Felder also spent time at Cheyney University, and Clark Atlanta University, serving as the Director Strength and Conditioning and assistant football coach, with both Universities.

He is a native of North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who prepped at Berwick Area High School where he was an All-America offensive lineman. Felder is most inspired by his high school football coach George Curry and his words: "When you work hard great things happen". ---

Felder was an OL for Ped St from 1998-2002? All Big Ten LT in 2001? Oh so Felder is the guy Jerome McDougal made his ***** in the 2001 season opener at Crappy Valley! Interesting!
