? For those who say, "coaches can't let X recruit get away"

Look at how well Stacy Coley is doing in our offense, now ask yourself how much it would've hurt to see what Stacy Coley is doing but in a Gold and Garnett uniform.

If Miami lets Cook go to either FSU or UF, it's a failure plain and simple. Cook is the best offensive player I've ever seen next to Amari Cooper in high school. There's is no "Oh well, at least you tried excuse" for players like him. Just think about it, if Cook goes to FSU, your going to have to deal with him for at least 3 years in an already prolific offense.

See this stuff every year. I think the only time I didn't see it was during Duke's year because he was a lock. Every **** year some guy talks about how you can't lose this one or that one because he is the greatest player I've ever seen. Before this season Lane was better than Stacy Coley. When you start touting defensive tackles and rush ends as the best player you've ever seen I'll take what is being said seriously. That is something clearly lacking on this roster. I'll wait until I hear about the next greatest RB or WR when next year rolls around.

And every year we here fans say "we'll be fine." "One player doesn't make a class". Well, we haven't been fine. Actually we have sucked. And maybe those playmakers that we didn't need would have changed that. Stacey Coley is great. A trio of Cooper, Watkins and Coley may have made up for our short comings on the defensive side. The more playmakers you add, the better chance you have to win.

Doesn't fix the defense. Can't win with Mr 5000 or 500 or Dorito or whatever the **** you want to call him playing his passive non-penetrating ineffective bull**** Defense.

Cook has a brother at the U. You guys don't think he talks to the players? Knows the ins and outs...and the real deal of the program? If he wants in, he'll sign. If he doesn't, then these ******* coaches better convince him otherwise. If that doesn't happen, then a bagman better convince his momma, baby momma, step dad, dealer, whatever the **** it takes to get him here.

Every year our porsters do this. Miss on Thomas, Bostwick, Eddie Jackson, Skai Moore, and Rashard Robinson, Our posters say this "One player doesn't make a class". Well, we haven't been fine", Remember back in the 80s or 90s we missed so and so and we won championships. They can't figure out that we live in a different time. **** some of posters are okay with missing Robinson and Jackson because we got Artie or Thomas because we got Grace. Nick Saban signs multiple great players at one position each year, our base is okay with one great player at one position. Wouldn't be nice to have a CB back field with Robinson, Jackson, and Burns instead of just Burns? Our fan base is just fine with signing one of them.

When the best player in the state plays HS football 2 blocks from your campus, and he goes elsewhere, it's a failure. There's no such thing as trying hard enough. There are no participation trophies. It doesn't get simpler than that.

So what would you do different?

.

Aside from paying more, has this been answered yet?

Answer how they are recruiting him 1st.

Dalvin Cook isn't the difference between Miami being great and just being good. I don't care what any of the hyperbolic bias observers who work for this site think. Chad Thomas is. Moten. Valentine is. Gibbons, Darling and McDermott are. Kaaya and Olsen are. We're supposedly stacked at the most important positions. You can find playmakers everywhere in south Florida. ****, Allen Hurns just turned in one of the most prolific seasons in Miami football history. We've got plenty of threats coming in and more that look to be on the way. For as great as Watkins is he wasn't even the best WR on his team last year.

Yet we can't find someone to replace AJ/Rodgers or someone elite backing Duke. UGA/FSU/Bama/Texas/A&M/Ohio State etc can, we have a former safety as our top back-up.

Pretty sure Crawford has more TDs than any of those backups you don't know the names of that you're lathering up. Did any of those backups single-handedly win a game for their teams like Crawford did?

I am going to take a beating for what I'm about to post, but I'm used to it so here it goes.

I have been attending high school games and following recruiting closely for about 7 years (not as long as some on here but I'm just giving perspective) and Dalvin Cook is the best player I've seen at the high school level. Anytime I post something about Cook on either here or Twitter, it turns into "We have Yearby and Powell coming in to team up with Gus Edwards and Duke, that will be unstoppable!!" Yes, Joseph Yearby and Brandon Powell are very, very good prospects and have bright futures, but neither of them are close to Dalvin Cook in my eyes.

It's been discussed in this thread already and I stand by what I said that him not coming here would be a complete failure by the staff. They have had 3 years to recruit him and do WHATEVER it takes to get him here. That is their job. Miami will never be back to elite level if Amari Coopers, Rashard Robinsons, Skai Moores, Matthew Thomases, Alex Collinses, etc. continue to go elsewhere.

People tout Gus Edwards but forget he was not the staff's first choice. If Alex Collins would have been solid, Miami would have never gone after him. Fans say we are "fine" with Edwards but the coaches obviously wanted Collins first. There are examples like this all across the board unfortunately.

Losing Cook would be as bad as Patrick Peterson going to LSU.

One more thing: People need to realize that although South Florida is loaded each and every year across the board, you don't come across multiple Stacy Coleys or Dalvin Cooks. It's levels to this recruiting game and the staff needs to make sure we aren't watching the South Florida kids make plays in the Iron Bowl every year.

It's not about losing Dalvin Cook. It's about losing Dalvin Cook, Sony Michel and Alex Collins. That is a failure.

This team desperately needs a 200-pound back with Miami-caliber talent. The coaches know that and are working their asses off to solve the problem.

Nothing wrong with your post, most here would agree and the ones who always downplay it when we lose a huge recruit are just as upset as the rest of us and are just making excuses to make them selves feel better.

I wasn't around then, but when Miami was recruiting Frank Gore, were fans saying "We don't need him because we have Clinton Portis and Najeh Davenport"?

No offense, but the recruiting gurus are often the ones blowing smoke up our asses about our recruiting classes.

Thomas & Collins are Cane Locks - read it on here more than once. Where the **** are they now? They straight lied to the coaches, you, their parents.

We all know we need the studs to be back, but how do you handle that type of bull****? What wizard do you suggest would have sold those players on Miami in the last 3 years over the schools they chose?

Let's narrow that down to the list of coaches interested in the Miami job when Golden was hired.

It would be a tragedy, but NOT a Failure. Why is this such a difficult concept to grasp? If the staff is doing all it can do, then its not a failure. All these stupid examples like "if you studied for the test", yes, but that is an example where the result was in YOUR hands. This is a choice being made by a kid, it is NOT in our hands. All we can do is make every effort to woo the kid and try to convince him and his family. IF we do that, and he still bolts, what else can we have done? Is it a failure? No, its a tragedy. Its a shame.

This isnt a case where we blew it and offered the kid late, or didnt offer at all, or insisted in making him play a position he didnt want to play. We have done everything we can do in recruiting him. In the end, if he choses to leave because he just DOES NOT want to be here, that is nothing the staff can be faulted for. Unless you are suggesting they should be handing the kid a duffel bag of money. The choice is NOT up to our coaches. The result is not one which we control Coaches talk to the kid every **** day. He's got teammates trying to recruit him here. Weve been all over the kid longer than anyone.

This. The mouthbreathers are out heavy in this thread. Consensus top 5 class right now, probably the best class we've had in the past decade, but in every thread you get the proverbial "this class is a failure if he's not in it". Just stupid. Douches looking for every reason to criticize Golden, who is widely considered one of THE BEST recruiters in the nation. It's a known fact that he and his staff have done everything in their power to rebuild relationships with local coaches and are TIRELESS workers in the recruiting game.

We've been recruiting the kid for 3 plus years. If he chooses not to come here it was a miss, not a failure. Pull you heads out of your assess.

+1

No need to complicate matters. Get it done or get out of Gables.

In the real world, you're judged on results, not how hard you try. Nobody cares about "try."

Golden either gets the 5 stars or he doesn't. He either succeeds or fails.

He's got a TOP 5 class right now genius.

Al Golden is a young Nick Saban, recruiting expert says

By Michael Casagrande

CORAL GABLES — They might may not be names most Miamians want their coaches compared to, but this is a compliment.

Trust me. It's a good thing.

In an interview with the Sun Sentinel, CBS recruiting expert Tom Lemming said UM coach Al Golden is getting close to rebuilding the Hurricane empire. Getting the NCAA case out of the way is a big part of that, but he's done extremely well bringing top talent to the embattled program.

Then Lemming said it.

“As soon as this clears up, the recruiting should be great,” he said. “Miami will be back to being a powerhouse, I think. Golden is a younger version of Nick Saban and Urban Meyer and he’s recruited very, very well considering this is swirling around.”

Yep, he compared the Hurricane coach to the widely-hated former Dolphins coach and the equally disliked ex-Gator.

He meant that as a positive considering they're both ace recruiters. Oh, and they combined to win six of the last 10 national titles. Golden is 18 years younger than Saban (61) and five years shy of Meyer (48).

Lemming went on to say Miami will be much better off when the sanctions eventually come down in its 22-month long investigation in the Nevin Shapiro matter.

It will allow Miami to paint a more concise picture of the program's future and quiet outside negativity.

"Believe me, colleges will use anything to help benefit themselves in recruiting so they were using that against Miami like crazy," Lemming said. "If that gives you any indication how good Al Golden is as recruiter, he still did well.

"They were pounding away at Miami — particularly Florida and Florida State. They tried to smear the school to players and it worked on some kids. In recruiting, there is no loyalty. There is no fairness. It's all about acquiring as much talent as possible. If a school has any kind of little thing — and this is a big thing — they will definitely use it against Miami."

With a few weeks remaining until signing day, Miami has the No. 27 recruiting class in 247Sports.com's composite ranking of all the other services.

Do you agree with Lemming? Leave a comment below.

Let's say Miami did sign Cooper, Peterson, Hosley, Thomas, Collins, Michel, Cook, Robinson, Moore, etc. There will always be a group of fans who will never be satisfied no matter what and start the 'why didn't we recruit so and so' thread.

There will always be recruits every cycle that fans will ***** about not getting offered regardless of who the coach is.
