? For those who say, "coaches can't let X recruit get away"

what position did you play in college, bomb?

Baseball, soccer and track! Only played club football because my school didn't field a team.

But I'm just talking about kids. Sometimes kids want to go away for school. Football, basketball, science, history. Doesn't matter. Sometimes being the local school actually hurts. Not making excuses, let's all be adult. But it's reality.

LOL. It's not about doing something different. You either get the kids or you don't. It's ok to admit that Golden isn't perfect.

Read the OP, the question isn't about Cook, I just used him as a reference.

You say just get the kids or you don't. As a coach what would YOU do different?

Well he can't answer because he does not know how they are recruiting him. Do you?

Cook claims in any interview about the U they recruit him the hardest. So yeah. Straight from the horses mouth.

****, I could probably do the exact opposite they're doing and I'd have the same success rate as them with Cook right now. But it's not my job. When you get paid $2 million a year, you don't get merit badges for attempting stuff.

That's my point, people keep saying coaches can't let him get away. What if the recruit just wants to leave?

Cook is staying in state. That means he's only going a few hours away.

Okay what does that mean? they could be calling his house all day which could be annoying. I mean what strategy are they using.

It all boils down to bottom line results. You either get the right kids or you don't. You do not get browny points for effort. Same goes the other way when you have recruits like Duke. Duke was gonna be a Cane no matter what, doesn't mean the staff doesn't get credit for signing the kid. You either do or don't. Cook doesn't come, then it's a major miss, pure and simple.

apparently, duke, deon, tracy and coley dont count.

Lol of course they count. Golden Should get those south Florida kids. What about

Amari Cooper
Avery Young
Matt Thomas
Alex Collins
Jayron Kearse
Travis Rudolph
Etc......

All of this. It really is not hard to understand. You can study as hard as you want for an exam, but if you fail. It's STILL A FAIL. End of Story. People need to stop with the excuses and rationalizations.

Holy ****, I'm about to do a complete 180 and change my position since I just realized that TP801 agrees with me.

I guess history is a subject the naysayer obviously consistently choose to ignore, since going all the way back to our hayday, yes I used that expression, Miami has always not landed every top prospect in South Florida. Actually take the time to freshen up and gain historical perspective, we have not nor will we ever lock up every top rated kid in South Florida.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't try to, we should, but history has shown it does not happen. All that matters in the end is that the kids you do sign, they do a good job of evaluating and hitting on more kids than missing. Since recruiting half your class usually don't end up being major contributors anyways

Sure.

However, the last three head coaches had too many local players leave. There is a thin line between the normal number of recruits leaving because they want to play elsewhere and not getting the job done. Between losing top kids, misplaying the recruitment of tier two players, and poorly evaluating other local players, the last three coaches just aren't getting it done. There are too many players in South Florida to make an excuse out of players just going elsewhere. Matthew Thomas goes to FSU, you should have Skai Moore. Miami ended up with neither of them and now we're playing Thurston Armbrister and Jimmy Gaines. Too many similar scenarios over the course of the past decade to just dismiss it as "welp, some kids just like going elsewhere!"...there are plenty of them that do, or need convincing to, that are there for the taking.

Miami will always have a certain number of elite players. They had them even during the 60's and 70's. But, depth is just not there and there isn't enough elite players to compete at a high level in the 2000's. Misevaluating and poorly overplaying their hand has done more to hinder the current status of the program then missing out on the token number of recruits that just want to get out of town.

Or else it's a failure by the staff.

Pete just tweeted that it' a Complete failure by the staff if Cook goes elsewhere. Cook himself has said Miami is recruiting him as hard as any other school. If that's true, and he chooses to leave, what else can a staff do?

This isn't really about Cook, I just referenced him for the sake of the ?

What can a staff do if they recruit the **** out of a player, yet he chooses not to sign with said school.

When your coach says its about Jimmies and Joes not X's and O's.....ya *** better get the Jimmies & Joes

But what would you do different. Cook himself said Miami is and has been recruiting him the hardest. So what are they not doing? How are they failing if he just doesn't want to play for UM? Please do tell. It's not about me thinking Golden is perfect. I don't. It's about what more would you have them do? You don't have an answer.

Certain kids leaving might have a lot to do with not wanting to play in front of half empty stadiums.
Might also have a lot to do with $$$$$$ in the pocket from other schools. Anyone who thinks we are paying players on the side is crazy. Since Golden got here we have been the cleanest program in NCAA history out of necessity.
We get caught anytime soon, and our only option will be the needle or the chair.

Part of me also thinks these kids are informed enough to realize that a lot of our fans are fair weather a holes.
All they have to do is go on this site for 5 minutes anytime in the past month.

How can he answer that dopey question when he doesn't know exactly what the corches are doing?

"The hardest" doesn't explain what they're doing specifically.
