I actually had this thought going through my head more than once.
Sure, it sounds absolutely pathetic from a perspective on the outside. Theres no draft and no benefit from being bad in college football. Recruiting takes a beating and fans won't come to the games. Thats just a fact.
However, when I look at how we play, it looks like we have checked out. As if we are playing games just to play them and get over with them. Mario right now is just looking at who has it, who can be planned with for the future, and who can take his butt to the portal. One of them is already going, it seems, so theres that.
And it would explain the recruiting class sticking together as they do. Mario surely must have told them that they will be part of a massive roster purge. Andrew Rodgers from MSU was hired and his job at MSU was to identify transfer portal targets, which they got en masse in 2021. The same will be happening here.
But the main part will be the coaching. This staff, the way its structured now, will not be the staff we have moving forward, unless we make a complete identity shift, especially on offense.
Mirabal didn't turn into a JAG overnight, just like Steele and Strong didn't turn into JAG defensive coaches.
But the players who come here in the future absolutely want to see a vision schematically. They are not stupid.
