Feels like 2007

I want to say this feels like the Butch years, because that’s always been my comparison. But that would be a lie. This feels like watching Virginia beat Miami 48-0 in the last game of the OB. Fifteen years later almost to the day and we still suck. It’s a numb feeling.

That 2007 team played horrible every week. We played it off by talking about the roster purge and the incoming recruiting class. That team had a bad OC and a staff of excellent individual coaches who didn’t click. And that team had a head coach who ultimately failed.

I have more faith in Cristobal than Shannon, but it’s becoming less rational by the day. This team has played bad in every single game. It’s November. Four straight home losses to kill the fanbase, and three of them are among the worst losses in program history.

The only difference between this team and 2007 is that the 2022 team has better players and more money. Florida State isn’t even a dominant opponent. They will finish with four to five losses. Two years ago, we beat them like they beat us. The difference is we have gotten worse in every aspect.

Better players will help. A new offense will help. Tennessee somehow came back after bottoming out for two decades. But any hope is based on nothing we’ve seen on the field. And that is a painful, familiar feeling.

I’m not trying to be rude, but you’d have faith in a potato if it was our first year head coach. Mario was never the answer for this program. People just loved him because he was a local guy. His in-game coaching has always been an atrocity. It’s showing even more with a roster with holes. This isn’t going to get any better. What recruit would want to come here? Yeah, you can make some NIL money, but they aren’t going to develop you for the next level. This should be able to be seen by parents/kids/coaches/etc

This season has proved Mario will never lead this program to the promised land. At best he will be a custodian.

Tough to be excited about the future unless extreme changes are made, regardless of what kids we bring in. Even if extreme changes are made, I still will need to see it and I’m putting cases on all you mfs who start the inevitable hype train this off season. I better not see not a nann nanna ACC Coastal champ prediction.

What recruit would want to come here? Do you live under a rock?

It’s just not fun anymore. We all knew this year would be a struggle, but you would have thought you would see some progress in some players as the season went on. But literally everyone has gotten worse and the coaching staff is broken. If Mario doesn’t turn this around quickly, we will forever be relegated to being a Vanderbilt type program.

This season I think has been worse than 2007. We were far more competitive in games that year and our team was far worse from a roster standpoint. This season has been an incomparable disaster and an absolute nightmare. We have not played well in a single game. The first half was ok vs Virginia Tech but that is it. On top of that van dyke has been terrible and frankly Garcia does not look playable. I guess Mario’s recruiting is a bright spot but anything on field to look to for positives is completely not there.

D$ I know you’re connected, so you can’t just say certain things.

But why should we have faith in Mario ever changing his offensive philosophy?

Gattis is horrible, but still that was Mario’s choice.

Oregon looks like a playoff contender due to thier offense that never looked like that once under Mario.

1st year coaches all over college is doing more with much less. Due to this offensive schemes.

Again, why should we have faith in Mario.

He seems stubborn. And not willing to recognize how big of a problem his offensive mindset has held him back.

I've been a believer in Mario.

It does feel irrational and hopeless now.

Unless he hires a brand new (modern) OC who also brings in at least 2-3 of his own coaches and gets to do GameDay management, then Mario is just prolonging the inevitable.

I'm not sure this season could have gone worse.

Florida State has a good offensive coach who overcame his recruiting woes through the portal. And he got his team to play hard, no matter what. FSU now has their best squad since 2015, and I think they finish no worse than 8-4 this year. But 8-9 wins is probably their ceiling...I can’t see a portal heavy team being sustainable.

You’re right on 2007...this is a very close analogy to that team. Offensively and defensively. Offensively it was limited by Nix and the fact that he inherited no wide receivers. As in literally, he had 6 scholarship players. It was a team that gradually gave up and was just waiting for the season to end.
