This^. And I will add that I think they overestimated the progress the current roster would make in his system. I know he spoke pretty positively about the team in general embracing the new challenges. I think more of them reached their ceiling in mental and physical fortitude than they expected. Remember these kids had pretty free rein to do what they wanted under Manny. Most of that free time dried up under Mario. They just couldn’t handle it. Add the extra physicality in practice and the result is what you see: A bunch of burned out guys who are throwing in the towel.
We have too many 6 year scrubs, these guys dont want to leave and since they are local players what can we do? We have to purge a roster of south florida players, good luck telling these guys all their players suck.. yikes

I was way more negative than normal this past off season so it’ll take a lot of portal additions to get me back close to that.
Are there portal names you know about that will be game changers for us, or do you expect the portal to provide decent depth?

I think the x-factor has to be the personality and truth to rumors that Gattis is icing out Ponce and not letting the quarterback's coach and passing game coordinator do what he was hired to do. If there is that kind of friction here in year one, Mario might have to move faster than normal and admit he has problem on his hand staff-wise and make some year two changes he probably wished he could wait until year three to make.
I think Mario knows Gattis is not working. His instinct is proabably to give him another year but I hope he pulls the plug quickly. Lashlee transformed our offense in 1 off season becuase Manny made that change after 1 season of Enos.

Cribby said it’s done so it’s done. But with the 22 and 23 classes being relatively strong and including our future QB (whether it’s Brown or Garcia or a Portal guy), Mario really can’t afford a reset when these recruits are sophomores and juniors.

Need them in a new system ASAP to set the foundation. Running it back another year with Gattis is a massive risk to the long term foundation and success of this program, not just 2023.

We knew we lost in the first two drives.

This off-season. We will know the 5 year outlook after the first 2 weeks

instinct to give him one more season is fireable.

Garcia was our highest rated QB recruit behind Kyle wright. hes broken. brown isnt great. TVD likely gone. portal guy will depend on who the OC is.

I want to say this feels like the Butch years, because that’s always been my comparison. But that would be a lie. This feels like watching Virginia beat Miami 48-0 in the last game of the OB. Fifteen years later almost to the day and we still suck. It’s a numb feeling.

That 2007 team played horrible every week. We played it off by talking about the roster purge and the incoming recruiting class. That team had a bad OC and a staff of excellent individual coaches who didn’t click. And that team had a head coach who ultimately failed.

I have more faith in Cristobal than Shannon, but it’s becoming less rational by the day. This team has played bad in every single game. It’s November. Four straight home losses to kill the fanbase, and three of them are among the worst losses in program history.

The only difference between this team and 2007 is that the 2022 team has better players and more money. Florida State isn’t even a dominant opponent. They will finish with four to five losses. Two years ago, we beat them like they beat us. The difference is we have gotten worse in every aspect.

Better players will help. A new offense will help. Tennessee somehow came back after bottoming out for two decades. But any hope is based on nothing we’ve seen on the field. And that is a painful, familiar feeling.
Bingo!

Anybody have any real insight as to why the **** Ponce isnt given a chance to call plays? We're banging our heads against the wall talking about execution in a system that clearly isnt working. We'll be lucky to score 2 TDs the rest of the year at this rate so why aren't we adjusting

I don’t think it’d change anything. The scheme is broken. Plus, Mario is not coaching for his job currently. If he needed to save his *** he probably would change. Nothing is gonna happen until the final whistle of the final game.

Actually feels more like the year before Lashlee was hired in my opinion, some pieces are there, just need some excitement.

Defensively we can manage with the talent we currently have, the offense literally does no favours for those boys it sucks.

Mario Cristobal isn’t a good coach. I honestly feel like he doesn’t even participate with practice much. I think all he does is recruit. He doesn’t care about the season and the now.

This is a redshirt year for him to get his guys in.

We play week in week out like we don't even practice what we run
