Every time we think it’s a low point, it goes lower. Total disaster. Miami has had some awful games before, but I can’t remember the last time the team didn’t make a single significant play in the whole game.

I want to believe in Mario, but this team has gotten worse as the year goes on. That is beyond concerning.

Same here. TVD is a more proven commodity at QB than Gattis is as an OC.

TVD's play last year caused people outside the program to regard him as a potential 1st Rd pick under our previous OC who's currently fielding the 10th ranked scoring offense at SMU. Now he's playing like one of the worst starting QB's in Div 1 college football and a guy who won't get drafted. Did TVD lose all his ability in the span of one year?

Gattis, while nominally a Broyles winner, is unproven given Harbaugh's involvement with the offense. It's impossible for anyone outside the Michigan program (including Mario) to be able to parse what was Gattis and what was Harbaugh last year. It's like the programs that used to hire Spurrier's OCs, thinking they'd get a Spurrier offense, but never did. The people at Michigan who should know best apparently didn't value Gattis all that much. Here's his departing tweet to the team last Feb:

Unless Mario commits to completely revamp the offensive scheme and go with a completely new offensive staff I'd expect TVD to set sail for SMU and put up terrific numbers next year. Whereas I see zero reason that UM's offense will be anything other than one of the worst in college football next year. What reason should anyone have that things on offense should turn around next year?

I think Mordecai has another year, plus they have 5-star Freshman Preston Stone waiting. Not sure SMU is the landing spot for TVD.

What legit OC is going to want to come coach under ultra conservative let’s just run the ball caveman Mario ?

I don’t see it getting better. The soft sunshine pumping fans seem to think this gets fixed with a bunch of top 10 classes. Scary thing is Mario seems to think the same. So the plan is keep stacking top 10 classes so Mario’s ineptitude can be somewhat hidden. That’s not how you win

I know this is crazy but I almost feel like Mario isn’t trying to win.
The only possible motivation for that would be to convince recruits that they can play immediately becuase the players in front of them are garbage.
But the flip side is that it seems losing this much would tell recruits and families that UM doesn’t have the staff to coach them. Maybe in the NIL world this doesn’t matter as much as the money. We will find out.

I sincerely can’t find another explanation for how bad we are other than we are not trying to win. I know many will say the explanation is that Mario sucks, but he did not suck like this at Oregon. Either did Steele, Gattis, Addae, Field, or any other coach at their previous jobs. Not even close.

So let me ask the unthinkable. Is it possible we are intentionally tanking?

This is rock bottom
No it isn’t, 3 more losses this season and recruits opening their recruiting back up would be closer to “rock bottom“… but there’s more after that (like bringing back certain guys on this staph)

Shannon overcompensated for the Camp Coker syndrome. Highly strict. Disciplinarian. The kids all regressed. Started to show promise a year later then regressed again his final year.

Shannon and Cristobol have similar mentalities. Fortunately, Cristobol has had success as a head coach.

It’s definitely a question I have asked myself, but then I think, if that is the case, it is a huge gamble on his part, exactly answered by you in your first paragraph. It’s a double edged sword, and if that were true, I would say he has overplayed that strategy, where we’re hovering over a scenario where recruits do truly ask the unthinkable question. It’s just too bad Mario presents himself as someone who can’t chew gum and walk at the same time. God I hope I’m wrong.

Intentionally tanking for what? Nah. He just didn’t pick the right guys. He needs to fix that, for starters.

maybe Mario just isnt that special as an HC? Steele got fired at Clemson for sucking. turned his career around at AU. was pretty much done as a DC till Maryland came calling. Addae was fine at WV. he spent only one year at UGA and they didnt want to retain him. Field is a recruiter. hes done that well. nothing changed. Gattis was never a successful OC. he had one good season as an OC and it was bc he was stripped of most of his duties.

also if hes trying to lose, fire him now with cause. cut all ties and ban him from ever coming back to campus

Again...expectation and reality are two different things. Tell me what Miami's reality has been the past 18 years? When have we ever lived up to the hype recently? If u expected Mario to come in and find 9-10 wins with this weak culture in his first season. Idk what to tell you except, give yourself some grace.
2017 under Rick we lived up to the hype- the hype going into the season. Sure, there was the collapse at the end but we entered that year ranked #18 and we finished it #13 and with double-digit wins.

I'm absolutely fine with the people that want to believe Mario is going to recruit us back to relevance. But this can be true too- he couldn't hold a healthy Rick's jock as an in-season coach if we would compare what the season would have been with (again, a healthy) Rick at the helm versus what Cristobal served up for us.

And I still absolutely had issues with a lot of Rick's philosophies and decisions too. This just shows how bad Mario **** the bed at least in this specific season.

It certainly would be a good strategy for lowering expectations. Do awful year 1 because ,you know, it's a " total rebuild." And then add 1-2 wins every subsequent year while stacking talent. Hard to argue with the chart when the curve is up-sloping...even if it does so ever so gradually. Keep screaming platitudes like " culture change, rebuild, laying foundation, putting in work" while you convince a battered fanbase to celebrate the upward trajectory of the program which will help keep the press off your back. Voila!

We ae probably both crazy but this is potentially correct. Look at FSU.
2 years ago they looked like we do now. And they have gotten a little better each year which certainly buys time for Norvell.

TVD if he stays.

Otherwise it’s likely whoever wins between Brown, Rashada, and Williams. I don’t think Garcia comes back. Ditto with Matocha
TVD would be making a terrible decision if he came back. He needs to have an NFL evaluation, and then transfer to a school with a quality QC who needs an experienced QB. Could even be a G5 school. The NFL is going to give him a poor draft grade. Even more so post-injury.

Nailed it. From what I’ve heard, there’s a BIG issue between guys on the team (mostly older) and Mario. It’s bad, it’s been bad and continues to manifest. The thing that woke me up in the middle of the night was actually the injuries. That is a pattern from Oregon days and needs to get fixed. Mario can control that and firing his OC.
How can Mario fix injury’s?

2007 wasn't this bad. 1997 wasn't this bad. Enter year here (since the late 70s) and it wasn't this bad.
