Dmoney explain yourself

Not that anyone asked but...

Family moved to Florida when I was around 4 years old. Grew up watching the Dolphins and the Hurricanes, never waivered.

Went to UCF in the early 2000's, was dragged to one UCF game in the Citrus Bowl vs Marshall (got to see Byron Leftwich).
While there, never game a **** about UCF football and that's still true. Saturdays were spent watching Miami games. Wore Miami tshirts to class all the time.

When it's FSU vs UF, who do I root for? Neither. It's more like "Who do I want to lose more?"
And if one team beating another team will help Miami's ranking, strength of schedule etc.. then I hope for that outcome.

But when they play each other, I mainly just want the stadium to collapse.

While we are debating the use of "trader" vs. "traitor", we should probably discuss "waiver" vs. "waver".

My Spelling Police duties are complete for the day...

Yeah, infested seems like the appropriate word for any place crawling with fans of the Noles and Gators.

I haven't spent a lot of time in Central Florida, but it seemed like there were a lot of UF fans in the Orlando area and a lot of FSU fans in the Tampa area. Don't know if that perception is accurate or not 🤷‍♀️

It's not a question of "a lot" of fans in Orlando/Tampa, this is true. I'm just saying there's ALSO a lot of Miami fans.

A lot of UF/F$U alums MOVE to Orlando/Tampa. So I accounted for that. But if you grow up with no built-in loyalties, then you have a fair shot to root for Miami. I know a lot of Miami fans in Central Florida who are not UM alums.

Most would spell it alot. Even spellcheck is smarter than that.

My son went to UF too, had fabulous scholarships there. But he sat in the student section in the swamp during a UM/UF game and cheered for Miami

If you were a Cane fan and never wavered through 1995-1999 and 2005 to present and didn't waver despite not having a degree from UM, your cred should not be questioned. Just sayin.
If you didn't put up six figures to attend that University during those eras, you're just less of a fan. Sorry.

Never having attended, I’ve been a Cane since 1967 although it was my dream as a 10 year old to do so. Life sent me in different directions and I wasn’t able to fulfill my dream of being a UM grad but that never lessened my loyalty to the school.

Got a state scholarship to Florida. Hated the Gators the whole time and never missed a home game in the OB. And this was 03-07, so it was a tough time for the good guys.
Oh dang. Were you in the Gator section when Hester housed it?

Plenty of huge Cane fans never went to UM or never even graduated college. I was accepted to UM but sans scholarship no way I could afford it. I went to FIU. But I spent a lot more time on the UM campus since all my friends and my gf went there. I was hanging out in the WVUM studio since like middle school. In the early to mid 00s my old band actually partnered UM's "record label" and we played some shows on campus. Played tons of pickup hoops on the IM courts and later in the new fitness center. I did everything on campus but attend classes. I tried to give a crap about FIU sports but it never clicked. Mostly because it was just a commuter school and I never really felt a personal connection.

I grew up a Cane fan all my life and my best friend’s dad/neighbor growing up worked at UM. I was on campus all the time and my parents were season tickets to the OB (RIP). I ended up going away for undergrad but still watched all the games on tv or online.

When I was ready to apply to my MBA, I applied to UF because of its MBA ranking and cheap tuition. I didn’t get in, but I got a partial scholarship to Miami. Ended up being the best decision of my life. Made great friends, found a job here, met my now wife while at Miami, and became the valedictorian of my class. UF’s business school can shove it for passing on me, and I hope we repeat what we did last year to them at our house on Sept. 20th.

I may not be able to go to the game (baby is due on the 18th, but I’ll be tuned in from wherever I am rooting hard with a newborn swaddled in a Miami blanket.

I bet there are a lot of UM grads that grew up and still are fans of other programs.
Most people don’t change their love for their home town team because they got the opportunity to go to college somewhere else.

I got my degree by taking college classes through the military’s contract with U. of Maryland.
I’ve been a Canes fan since I was 14 because I grew up in SFLA. Same reason I was a Dolphins fan since age 8, despite living in Cleveland from age 8-16, but returned to SFLA from 16 to 38, other than my military years.

I did become an Indians fan because SFLA didn’t have a MLB team and never became a Braves fan unlike most people from WPB my age, despite spring training being a couple miles from my house. When the Marlins came along, I tried but couldn’t switch.

Loyalty is a funny thing.
Anyone that doesn’t become a fan of the college they attended is a cherna except FIU alumni.

@DMoney I graduated FSU in '14. And I didn't get a scholarship like you. (lol, polk county public schools)

Were me and you paying 50k in tuition as opposed to 3k?

In the words of @I'm james Jackson brother :

**** NAW YOU LIMP WRIST ******************** !!!!

I almost went to FSU for the same reason, got a full-ride academic scholarship to go there.

But I decided I wanted to go out of state, at least for my Undergrad.
Good on you. Not many take that opportunity or chance. You definitely are wise for your age. End dad speak. I encouraged my son's to keep an open mind, do what you think is best. I've got a sophomore at UF (full academic ride). He wouldn't apply to Miami. Good times.

My brother had a baseball scholly to FSU; During football game against us, he and my other brother wore their canes gear while watching with other baseball players and friends. Lol. They continue bleed orange green despite degrees from FSU.
