I read at CIS a while back that the only places where UM is the dominant program as far as fan interest goes is Dade and South Broward.

Maybe that's changed over the last couple years?
I think that may still be the case, tbh. UM started getting more consideration from Brevard county players -especially from Merritt Island HS, which was a dominant program - in the late 70's/early 80's. I remember the Ham family, in particular, sending a couple of sons to UM. I played against their older brother, James, that went to Oklahoma St. Think he may have played for Jimmie J.

The Ham brothers of Merritt Island Derrick and Erik were a force.

Ghosts of the Orange Bowl -

"Derrick Ham carries two important legacies. He was one of six brothers who were all talented athletes. Ham was also the last of a long line of players from Merritt Island, FL who played for the Canes during the 1980s and 1990s. That pipeline included his older brother Eric Ham, who was a running back and standout special teams player from 1985 to 1988. Other Merritt Island Canes included Joe Kohlbrand, Bubba McDowell, Hurlie Brown, Darryl Spencer and Aaron Jones. All of them played for longtime Merritt Island High School coach Gerald Odom, who was a close friend of former UM assistant coach Don Soldinger.
Derrick Ham played for UM from 1995 to 1998. After struggling with injuries most of his career, Ham enjoyed his finest season as a senior in 1998 when he led the team with 10 sacks. He went on to play briefly with the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns along with brief stints with the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe. Ham currently lives in Miami where he works in real estate. He is a member of the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame."

I wish Brevard produced more, 80's 90's and early 2000's the football talent was elite. Cocoa ranked 43rd Nationally is now the only legit program (they pull in all the surrounding talent) Brady Hart (3 Star A&M), Jayvan Boggs (3Star Fsu) and Eau Gallie's Xavier Lherisse (3 Star Oregon) are the top athletes out of Brevard this year.

Hey Eye:
didn't you love the A/C in Mahoney. We paid all those $$$$'s and that place was marginally cool at best......**** though... for parties and those breezeways......**** the stories....fun fun fun.

I Went to bed on the first floor, and a travelling hippie dude jimmied my door and stole my wallet.
I went to all our local haunts looking for that wallet, and nothing. Got a call from the Campus police saying a vagrant living in the stairwell breezeway was trying to use my i.d card on campus and my credit cards.....
They wanted to charge him. and asked me about pressing charges... but I said, the guy is hurting so let him go, but he needs to understand that if he ever shows up again all of that floor will beat his *** and he would be sorry....guy disappeared..end of story, .but lots of stuff went down at Mahoney.
I made so many friends in that breezeway! And I have so many crazy stories from Mahoney-Pearson. Lived on 4 long Mahoney my freshman year in 1997. Football players were also on 4long and 5 long, and we used to play a lot of dominos after class.

Sophomore year that was this weird guy that got kicked out because he got mad at some girl that wouldn’t go out with him, so he doused her door in Boone’s Chartreuse and lit it on fire. Went out to the breezeway to smoke, and when the cops showed up and asked if he knew anything about it, he told him he did it and started ranting like a lunatic about the girl.

I would just put a plug in for U scholarships. I paid $0.0. I picked Miami because I was a fan from New England. New England has no real college football.
Agreed. I didn’t pay zero, but I paid $20K total thanks to scholarships and financial aid. UM is expensive, but also gives out a lot of money. I had lots of friends on scholarship.

I did get one of my graduate degrees from UF though (MBA), and got that for free. Had an amazing experience. Education is more important than football rivalries.

Brock Berlin was pure gaturds then became one of the most dominating Cane QB of all time in the most physical emotional exhausting games in Cane History.

Brock has no explaining to do neither does @DMoney

@DMoney didn’t know you was a UF Grad. What made you a Miami Fan instead of a trader ?
This is a ridiculous take. Higher education is a financial burden on every single current/former college student. Student Loan debt is $1.6 trillion in the country. People are drowning in it. But D isn't a true Cane fan because he took the best offer on the table? He owes no explanation.

Got a state scholarship to Florida. Hated the Gators the whole time and never missed a home game in the OB. And this was 03-07, so it was a tough time for the good guys.
It’s very common, I went 04-08 and there were several UF students who had bright future scholarships and couldn’t afford Miami so they went to UF. It’s funny how most of them don’t go to games, I would go with friends and root for the away team. Saw Jay cutler go to double OT in the swamp.
