Cristobal AD search news

Yeah and how would the Scott Frost thing have gone for Florida if they did hire him? How is it going for Nebraska? You laugh all you like but you just used a prime example of why you don't go all in on one guy

And now Mario is being compared to Nick Saban or even Jim Harbaugh who built two college programs from the ground up then did the same thing in the NFL. The weird posters are the people elevating Mario Cristobal to some sort of elite coach because he's in rock fights every week in the worst conference in the power 5. And no one said he needed to come in for an interview. He should be one of several candidates that get evaluated equally and without bias.
Iono why you even, @Cribby, some ppl just wanna argue just to argue.

Ppl sometimes need to read the room, but nah....

But, I digress.
It's your hill, @fincane

When any big program starts having interviews that means their first guy fell though. Likely the second guy too. You have a very naive view of how this actually works dude.

Three years ago if Scott Frost wanted the Gator job do you think he interviews for it? Lol. He’d been hired on the spot. What about Nebraska? Do you think he interviewed there?

Did Jim Harbaugh interview at Michigan? lol.

If I’m trying to steal a top 15-20 Ceo in the country from an equal competitor i don't call and say ” hey , You want to come interview”? No, you sell him on your company and the long term plan. Believe it or not Mario is at the level now, we have to sell out program and the long term plan to take him from a good job.
We like to always point out that Mario drops a game he shouldn't every year. But when you look at the landscape of CFB, take Saban out of the equation, look at your next tier:

Jimbo: Seems to be stalling at around 8/9 wins at A&M
Dabo: Took a MASSIVE step back in terms of being an elite coach. He's sitting on by far the most talent in arguably the worst conference (hi Pac 12). Yet he'll finish midway through in his division. If I'm a recruit, I want to see what you do when you don't have a bonafide 1st round QB, and Dabo laid an egg with no stud QB walking through his doors yet.
Kirby: May actually win a title with UGA, but still hasn't won there yet and he's been gifted recruits at a high clip every cycle.
Day: Meyer's recruits are starting to file out and it's his team, he lost to Oregon at home and they don't look like they'd beat Bama or UGA this year.

After that, I think Mario enters into the next tier.

I having shocking news for everyone but the big programs have their guy they chase first. They have a coach in mind if he wants the job it’s over. Day was the choice at Osu, Meyer before that. Jimbo was the plan A at AM. Harbaugh at Michigan. This whole myth over interviewing guys is false, when you start having interviews your plan A’s likely said no. If Lincoln Riley wants the Lsu job he won’t interview lol.
Manny didn’t interview.

Well said

I could be way off in being hesitant with Mario personally but I agree that if someone is your guy then the whole search things doesn’t make sense

It’s just when your guy is Manny Diaz is when I have a real issue

And your attempt was incorrect. NBA, NFL and MLB all interview more than one guy and even beyond the required diversity stuff. So you pulled that out of your ***.
Not in every situation in college. In the pro sports (MLB, NFL, etc) there are a lot of times where they have their guy in mind and they will do a few token interviews. It’s a fact.

In college, which is what we are really discussing here, the sucks are set up behind the scenes long before you even start hearing names, brother. It’s absolutely done that way.

It’s no different here. In the Miami case it goes back to the Michigan State game with Mario.

Let’s agree to disagree. It’s all good, brother!

Andy Reid didn't interview for the Chiefs job.
You realize this is easily searchable right? Trust me it didn't take that long. And you mentioned a guy who made a Super Bowl and had a long run of success. Cristobal is not Andy Reid.

I think you are mixing up the success of a coach and their track record with what a team wants.

NFL example and @Cribby & @djnellz can confirm this:

When the Eagles hired Chip Kelly, they interviewed other guys ahead of Chip to put their backups plans in place.

They wanted Chip and if he said no, they would go with their next choices of interviews.

They got their man Chip. In the NFL it has to be done differently. Not in college.

They work backchannels and like Cribby said, if you start to see interviews, that’s because their top 2 choices said no.

I would bet money that you will never see UM interviews Mario or Lane out there. It will either be Miami is interviewing candidates or “sources” are telling us Mario or Lane is the next coach.

Replace ‘interview‘ with ‘negotiate’ and everyone gets along.

And, the NFL is different animal as rarely is an employed NFL HC hired away from another team. HCs are pulled from the pool of fired coaches, maybe retired coaches, from the pool of coordinators/assistants, and occasionally college HCs.

Yes - you said it better. Negotiate

Guys are just having PTSD over how fast an unqualified CMD was hired. I get it, but this is WAY WAY different fellas....take note above as it was just spelled out and can't be broken down anymore than that.

Exactly. It’s mostly assistants being hired , so they aren’t in a power position. Now its a Meyer or another HC in the league that’s proven he won’t be interviewing.
