Coach Speak: Richt addresses recent injuries, improving offensive line, and upcoming scrimmage

for the TE spot- not fair to Patchan to move him back as he will finally do what he was brought here to do on the defensive side of the ball. Langham? maybe i guess? Gray we need now at FB- he is starting- and even if George passes him up- he's still the only other FB. Can't think of any O line i'd move due to the strides they are making.. (unless is that guy Milo still on the team?). this position is mainly just for practicing..do not want to move any young guys that are progressing at their positions.. what about McCray? or Knowles (ha)? those guys seem to be in positions and depth chart level and age for it to be an idea to think about- as well as Langham.

Jordan and Mallory are already getting the most meaningful reps, including first team.

Polendey is first team in name only. The other two will play bigger roles right away based on current practice usage.

I know it’s only been one week but what have you heard in regards to Perry?

Im not too worried about Polendy being a 'starter' yeah, he might play in the first play of a given game but then get less snaps than Jordan and/or Mallory. If he's serviceable as an in-line blocker Id be happy with that

That flies in the opposite direction of what I've heard, but whatever. My guy is there daily and I will leave it at that.

Jordan has a shot due to blocking ability to take a lot of reps, bit Mallory isn't there yet to be used in a TE capacity at the line.

Mallory is playing with the 1s as a flex, similar to Njoku.

There is rotation going on like always but there is no question who the top two options are. Jordan in-line and Mallory detached.

I want a QB that can hit passes and keep the chains moving. I'm such a horrible person.
If our o-line and run game improves, so will Rosier. It ain’t rocket science. We averaged over 7 yards to gain on 3rd downs last year. It’s very difficult to have a good completion rate when you’re constantly in known passing situations.

Rosier doesn’t help himself by turfing bubble screens on first down, but if we could pick up 3 yards running the ball we wouldn’t have to call so many bubble screens.

A better run game will allow us to attempt more high percentage passes and have much more success moving the chains.

Rosier is what he is. I’d like to see us be able to run the ball and allow Rosier to just manage the game. Get everyone in the correct play, make your reads and checks, and execute high percentage plays.

I feel like any time Rosier has over 30 pass attempts, it’s going to be a long day.

Said 2 years ago Cade Weldon would be a major factor before he was done here.

He has everything you want in a QB. Pedigree, plenty good enough size, accuracy, a legit D1 arm, very underestimated athleticism, a smart kid. I've said for 2 years this kid is going to be a very good QB somewhere. Either here, or if there is someone even better, somewhere else. But he's a legit D1 player no doubt about it. Doesn't surprise me one bit to see the light is coming on for him and he's starting to emerge. I wouldn't bet a nickel right now Kosi winds up a more impactful Hurricane than Cade Weldon in 3 years. The kid can play.

How about Rousseau as a 4th, short yardage TE? Didn’t he play WR before outgrowing the position? I’d love to see him line up as an extra TE on short-and-goal, and have Rosier pull the ball back and toss a jump pass to Rousseau. Or better, yet, DJ Dallas. Would likely only work once, but would be awesome.

And no, I am not suggesting Greg move to TE from DE. He’s going to be a freak at DE. But a package of a few plays would be fun to see.

C’mon guys.

Sure the coach threw a couple of compliments Cade’s way, in addition to saying he had a couple of screwups the last practice.

Coach didn’t say anything about him even challenging for the top 2 spots. The likelihood right now is that at the start of the season, N’Kosi is the number 2 guy.

In typical CIS fashion, Weldon has become August’s flavor of the month.

Remember Jarred Williams? He was flavor of the month for three months running. Half the board had him starting either against LSU, or soon thereafter.

Of course last year it was, N’Kosi da gaww for six months.

I understand that sources say he’s contending for the number 2 per Stefan. While I don’t doubt that the practice observer(s) believe this, the QB position is hard to judge for those that aren’t offensive experts, or understand what Richt is trying to do each practice play or look.

It’s s judgement call to guess where a QB stands in the pecking order. So unless the source is either Richt, or Brown, the expertise isn’t there to actually know if Cade is even close to the number 2.

Is it possible for any of the three to end up number 2? I wouldn’t rule it out. But I believe until further evidence emerges, and I mean strong evidence like the coaches actually saying it, the status quo of N’kosi as number two remains.

Just remember, you’ve been down this road several times where you jump to conclusions, based on scant and shaky information and you’re doing it again. This time it’s after the first four practices of camp.

“We had to stop practice short today because I just don’t have enough tight ends on our roster,” Richt said. “Our threes didn’t even get to practice short yardage

I wish coach richt would stop making comments like this, comes off as dramatic to me lol. Run different formation sets were you don’t have to use a tight end...

Agreed, FFS sake we lost one guy and it's being made out like we have zero TE's left on the roster.
