Character

I may read to much into the situation but I think Diaz's love for the program blinded him I think he believed that he could turn the program around in one year and he got a hot head with all the news saying if this guy could make our defense great what can do as a hc. That's my hope atleast I hope he goes back to running things he used to run as a DC if so I think he turns this program around

Love for the program blinded him? Or how about Diaz has always had the rep of him knowing more than you?

Wait. Some of this ins not accurate. Richt convinced Jarren to stay (i believe) and jeff wasnt begged to come back as much as many didnt want to see the kid in the street.

Just out of curiosity..why would he be in the street?
Wasn't he going to transfer to Illinois?

We played that Florida team TWO(?) years in a row before Urban arrived!! Are you guys on meds? Go back and watch the fugging Bowl game the year before Meyer arrived. Florida’s WRs were sliding trying not to get hit. Two(?) years later they won the NC. LMAO.

GTFOOH about “they wanted to win”... The core of that team was soft *** fugg BEFORE Urban arrived. Soft as fugg. URBAN changed their mindset. Period. Just like MULLEN took a 4 WIN team, led by Felipe 😂 and made them a 10/11 win team.

LEADERSHIP.

You cats are trying to rewrite history that’s already captured on tape.
It's always the guys who don't want to hold our coaches responsible who think it's all on the players to lead themselves and create the culture.

Character matters. Our top three character guys were our first three picks this weekend. Jeff Thomas and Trevon Hill still haven’t found a team.

We were excited at the time, but in retrospect, the culture was poisoned when Manny did the following:

1) Convinced Jarren to stay;
2) Signed an OC with the idea that he would “fix” Jarren and the other QBs;
3) Begged Jeff to come back;
4) Signed Hill after he got kicked out of another program;
5) Signed Tate after he quit another program; and
5) Tweet bragged about all of the above.

We need to learn our lesson going forward. There are no short-cuts. The only way to build a culture is to be careful and consistent about who you let in the building. That is the secret at Clemson.

didn’t realize any of this until we started having a 💩 season. We need to stick with the Bubba Boldens, Jalen Phillips of the world. Kids who are just good peeps and non drama starters

If he stays healthy and develops. Phillips could be a first round pick

Tate leaving during the seasons for “ mental issues” then posting all kinds of pics on the beach with his thot was a horrible look. While his teammates are getting waxed weekly. I’ve made excuses for tater but that’s when I was done with him.
CMD has to tell Tate, time to move on period.... Funny second year in a row CMD wins the offseason

Urban walked into a team loaded with mostly Fr and soph. Hence why they went 9-3 his first year. Zoom left a very young , loaded squad. Urban literally walked in at the perfect time. He’s still an unreal coach but the teams we played in the bowl was mostly kids.

Ok. You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about. You simply don’t know what Championship leadership looks like and WHY it transforms mediocre “TEAMS.”

Would have been hilarious to see the fans reaction if before the season we found out:

1. We told Jarren to kick rocks
2. Told Jeff Thomas to kick rocks
3. Told Hill to kick rocks
4. Told Martell to kick rocks

This place would have been suicidal
Some people here said we shoulda done them things back when. And in any case, Manny’s job is to lead, not worry about fam reaction.

Spot on my guy. I don’t agree w # 5 either, b/c that would mean King would fit that mode, as he decided to RS after having problems w Holgorsen and then left.

Evaluation is you don’t take a Tate who’s never played under C, when you wanna run a archaic form of pro style.

And for once, can we really talk about character? U don’t crash another teams coaching clinic to try to clown them. U don’t pull up to a charity fund raiser on a yacht. U don’t hand out achievement awards after a loss. U don’t praise moral victories. U don’t place Wrestling mats in the middle of practices after a dismal season. U don’t tote the phrase “TNM” and sneak diss your predecessor, only to throw kids under the bus to justify your operation or lack there of.

So yeah; we got character issues, along w/ evaluation issues, and a whole slew of other issues that goes beyond Hill & Thomas not getting drafted. That’s a scape goat take.
Correctamundo.

Yeah , that’s it. Zook killed it in recruiting and left a loaded roster dumb *** , you should know that. Majority of the 06 team was Zooks guys. That team that we almost lost to in the OB was majority fr or soph , including leak.

They had growing pains because his first year they were still young as ****. He changed the culture but he won because it was a loaded roster. Zook was an amazing recruiter and the kids loved him. He was just a corch.

Culture doesn’t matter if you don’t have the horses ya goof.

Don’t know how many here actually have experience leading teams, or hiring and firing, but good leadership only takes you so far.

Good leadership takes you to maybe 9 wins last year - maybe. Leadership has a definite impact, you can’t win big without it, but you can only take a team full of tomato cans so far.

In the end, it’s about finding the right people and leading those people...while getting rid of the ones that aren’t winners.

Wouldn't have mattered who coached JT, first he would have never sniffed a team coached by some of the top coaches being mentioned here, and had he lucked into one of those teams, or just even a better coach/leader, he likely would have been only marginally better, if at all.

The best leaders that I personally know, spend an inordinate amount of time and care in the selection process. The worst, don’t. That’s not the only trait that makes good leaders, but the best ones know they need to start with the right raw material.

Zook was a MUCH better recruiter than Manny.

Zook was the definition of players coach and kids loved him like no coach I’ve seen. One of his players got beat up by a frat and dude walked down to the grad house with his team ready to wreck havoc lol.

Dude was just a corch.

He was a definite corch, but he recruited like gangbusters when he was at Florida. That was pretty much the 100% consensus on Zook, by their own fans and pretty much anybody else in college football

So Zook had the players, and they loved him. Why couldn't he win with those players and Urb won a NC with them? Urb isn't some sort of masterful X and O guy. I don't think he was ever even a coordinator. He was a leader of men. He took the same guys that Zook couldn't lead and who played like pvssies and turned them into killers (literally). He established the culture. The players didn't.
