Can evan shirreffs win the starting spot ?????

Miami is not making it back to elite status with shireffs or rosier. I could be wrong but i doubt it. The fact neither guy has locked down this job yet is very telling.

People said we were in deep crap if Kenny Kelly went down. How'd that turn out?

I swear people have the strangest remeberence of Ken Dorsey in high school. His tape was ******* awesome.

Dudes talk like dorsey was a scrub because he didnt have a big arm or much of a nfl career. Dude was a very good college qb.

People looked at him and saw a skinny kid and thought he couldn't get the job done. Even after his first three starts where he tore it up, people said he did it against weak competition. Fans didn't see his high school film. All they saw was a tall, skinny kid that would get broken in half against the likes of FSU.

I will never rule out any QB, nor call one a savior before they take a snap. I remember how freaked out people were when Vinny left and Steve Walsh won the job. Or how people were shocked when Bernie won the job in 83. I remember can't miss guys like Kyle Wright and Kenny Kelly not being able to get out their own way at times. We should all just let it play out, and hope for the best for ALL our players.

We're so desperate to have any "good news" on the QB front that we're taking a comparison of a guy with no P5 offers to a guy who's best college offer was a terrible Memphis squad as being some kind of positive?

Ryan Williams ONLY played at Miami because Golden and his staff were TERRIBLE at recruiting QBs. We were desperate for another arm, and Williams was a SoFla kid who wanted out of Memphis because they changed their offense.

And speaking directly to the comparison ... It would be **** near impossible to be less athletic than Williams was, so I'm not sure why that's seen as a compliment.

We would've been better than 6-7 with Williams. And I wouldn't put too much stock into offer lists at the QB position, see Trevor Siemian & Paxton Lynch. And IIRC, the kid that won a NC at Bama in 16' didn't have a helluva offer list. Carson Wentz, did He have bookoo offers?

For those that actually know...what kind of arm does Shireffs have? What does it compare to?

My comparison for Shirreffs is an athletic Ryan Williams, and I mean that as a complement.

Could you elaborate on that comparison a bit @DMoney? Only because as a fan I never got to see Ryan Williams in action either so it's difficult to get a feel for what a "more athletic" Williams would actually look like... So what exactly have you seen this year that Sherriffs brings to the table?

Very tall, smart, throws with anticipation, lacks the arm to drive the ball but can make throws if he's on time.

Williams got better as he got more confidence and timing. He was practicing really well before getting hurt. The big difference between the two is that Shirreffs can really run. His brother was a running QB for UConn. All four QBs are mobile.

Friend, the last guy I remember being this insistent about anything was FullyERicht on el jefe. Now you've not reached those levels yet, but have mercy on us and chill a bit on the doomcasting.

After watching Evans highlights posted everything D$ has said is on the money. Don't know how to feel about this. Really hoping the kid has just enough, but i do like that he throws with anticipation. However i see this playing out as johnnyblaze has predicted, easing Perry in as the year progresses. Man lets hope that is what happens. I'm not giving up on Weldon being that guy we ease into the starting role later in the year either.

Its not doom.

I call bull**** on all the putzes on here always talking about how Miami doesn't get the hidden gems anymore in recruiting. The guys who aren't heavily recruited but stick their noses in the dirt, get better and make a name for themselves through hard work even though they weren't the 5 star stud out of high school. The kid can play and he is more mobile and can throw the ball better than most on here think or he wouldn't be in Ricks conversation. I support them all and think Rosier will get the nod but I've liked this kid since he signed and he is probably the smartest kid on the team. I just want the best players to play.

Posted this darn near 2 years ago. Kid makes a LOT of throws down the field. A lot of throws down the middle of the field, with confidence. Excellent PA pass ability. Not afraid to run the ball if he has to. He has the tools, and smarts, to do really well here. Also, he'll have the most talented skill position players we have seen at UM in many, many years.

Whoever wins the job will be surrounded by a wealth of talent, and I believe all of them can do well.

Yet, no other P5 or G5 school thought him worthy of a scholarship?

You and James Coley must be the only guys with an eye for QB talent ...
Miami and UGA interested in emerging QB prospect | College recruiting blog

Some names in that article might ring a bell.

You must realize this article doesn't really support your case, right?

Miami wasn’t at the game, but word got out about Evan,” Jefferson coach Ben Hall told the AJC. “Miami had a kid de-commit from them, and I think they had two kids transfer out of the program. I think they might have been in ‘scramble mode,’ and they found about Evan.

Yeah ... "Scramble Mode" is how all the "diamonds in the rough" are found ...

The only QB on the roster who I have seen play is Rosier and I have no confidence in him leading this team to a successful season. If the Sheriff wins the starting job, I'm at least willing to give the kid a chance before crapping on him like most of the know-it-all's in this thread.

Williams was completing like 70% of his passes that spring before he got hurt in the 2nd scrimmage.

Williams is a career 68% completion guy here at the :neonu: (IN REAL GAMES)

Has Shirreffs ever done anything even resembling that? Even in 7v7?
