Can evan shirreffs win the starting spot ?????

If Evan was as good as Trubisky this wouldn't even be a conversation

Lol at a walk on qb giving us the best opportunity to beat FSU and being compared to a 1st round draft pick.
Please list your rational for Rosier, Testeverde, Weldon, or Perry being a proven better options at this point?

I must have missed those three or four touchdown passes Malik through against Clemson in relief of Brad Kaaya. Clemson is a much better comparison for what he'll face over the Duke game people are pounding their chest over.

He's the same moron who said the guy who got drafted in the NFL by the Lions is garbage. But go figure...

Kaaya is garbage like 99% of NFL draft picks that get drafted at the end of the 6th round.

But to answer the original hilarious response.... my rationale is simply Shireffs is a walk on caliber qb The End. I'm not talking about the other qbs.

He was ranked as a 3 star recruit by 247.
Evan Shirreffs, Miami, Pro-Style Quarterback

Walk on or not, what matters is winning the qb competition. I'd hope every single player is better after three years. Player development is a real thing.
Here is an interesting reading list.

25 Greatest Walk-Ons of the BCS Era | Bleacher Report

Might notice a pretty good Miami hurricane on that list. If Sherriffs has put in the work to improve and wins the job in open competition, how is that a bad thing? Shouldn't the coaches be lauded for shaping a raw qb and the player congratulated for putting in the necessary work to win the position?

I like Perry because Richt has likened him to Charlie Ward, but I am not going to whine if Richt names Sherriffs the starter.

Sure shirreff can be starter. So can Rosier and Perry. I have read the other replies to this post. I see some arrogant posts stating positively that Perry will be starter. I see no posts stating that other two candidates will positively be the starter. As I stated in another post "chosen qb", if Perry not starter I believe many posters are going to raise **** on this board. I also find it strange that many posts seem to basing their choice of qb as the one better equipped to beat FSU. Regardless of who will be the man, beating FSU will be very very difficult. 2017 should not be considered a one game season based on results of FSU game. There are 3 or 4 other teams on schedule capable of beating us.

I don't know about the rest of the schedule, but if Shirreffs is the starter against FSU, I don't see us winning that game, unless we get a non-offensive touchdown. They are going to force him to complete downfield passes the entire game, and he doesn't have the arm talent to do that on a consistent basis.

Disagree. Brad Kaaya had plenty of arm, but how did that work out for us against FSU? Good decision making is what will beat FSU.

For those that actually know...what kind of arm does Shireffs have? What does it compare to?

My comparison for Shirreffs is an athletic Ryan Williams, and I mean that as a compliment.

I'll support him if he wins the job but I'm just not buying the notion that he gives us the best chance to beat FSU until proven otherwise.

LOL...according to this logic, you would've been writing off Dorsey in 00' because He "only beat Rutgers, Syracuse, & Temple" in 99'.
Not at all true. The discussion is about the QBs on this team relative to one another, period. Dorsey isn't relevant to this discussion because his attributes became very apparent. All Malik did was not messup the Duke game so bad that our Desperado return still had a chance.

Bottom line, here's a quote from someone who actually played with Shirreffs: "Spot on, Evan is more than capable to leading the team this year and is still my pick at this point."

LOL...Dorsey sucked *** when He had to step in for Kelly...so much so that Al Blades cussed His *** out...LOL.

Bro you would've been $h!tt!ng on Dorsey in 00'...matter of fact you would've been part of the lynch mob that wanted His head after the UW loss in 00..."His attributes became very apparent"...LOL.

The fan base was buzzing about Dorsey after stepping in for Kelly.

You do realize that there is better precedent for a "walk-on" quarterback having success than a true freshman right?

Stop bringing up Dorsey he is not relevant to this conversation or this era.

My comparison for Shirreffs is an athletic Ryan Williams, and I mean that as a complement.

Could you elaborate on that comparison a bit DMoney? Only because as a fan I never got to see Ryan Williams in action either so it's difficult to get a feel for what a "more athletic" Williams would actually look like... So what exactly have you seen this year that Sherriffs brings to the table?

I don't think people realize how big and athletic Shirreffs is. When he got here he was what, 6'5" 190? Now he's over 220? Dude is big, strong, and fast. His only knock is he doesn't have a cannon of an arm.

Posted this darn near 2 years ago. Kid makes a LOT of throws down the field. A lot of throws down the middle of the field, with confidence. Excellent PA pass ability. Not afraid to run the ball if he has to. He has the tools, and smarts, to do really well here. Also, he'll have the most talented skill position players we have seen at UM in many, many years.

Whoever wins the job will be surrounded by a wealth of talent, and I believe all of them can do well.

We're so desperate to have any "good news" on the QB front that we're taking a comparison of a guy with no P5 offers to a guy who's best college offer was a terrible Memphis squad as being some kind of positive?

Ryan Williams ONLY played at Miami because Golden and his staff were TERRIBLE at recruiting QBs. We were desperate for another arm, and Williams was a SoFla kid who wanted out of Memphis because they changed their offense.

And speaking directly to the comparison ... It would be **** near impossible to be less athletic than Williams was, so I'm not sure why that's seen as a compliment.

Yet, no other P5 or G5 school thought him worthy of a scholarship?

You and James Coley must be the only guys with an eye for QB talent ...
