Listing a bunch of players means nothing. Nobody was going to sign cooper, coley, Greene, Benjamin, Watkins,hurns, dent, etc etc etc. so there is a built in element that you are going to lose kids. You aren't getting all those guys at the same time. Nobody will. This has to be factored in.

Second, someone go pull cokers recruiting class numbers and sola talent he pulled. Most of you guys were the same ones saying Coker just recruited off the services. What ever that means, he was signing all the alleged best players.

Finally a good team is built by getting the right 3-4 star players. Look at Clemson, Texas and ND. They sign more 5 stars than just. About anyone but. There are only a few of those. The rest of the team is made up of 3-4star guys. That is where you make ur money.

Basically the point was QYB (Quit Your *****ing) if you upset we missed out on a 5 Star from South Florida, it is hit or miss. (Not you in particular, but if someone is whining kinda thing).

Butches top/most talented players where highly rated guys.These guys are pointing out Santana moss, and Ed reed like it's the 90s still and shut doesn't change. Why don't you ****ing read, instead of buying into the "rah rah" bull****. Like I said Look at UM now and the best guys on the team are pretty much 4-5 star guys. It really isn't hard to comprehend. The highest rated "south Florida" guy in 08 was Patrick Johnson/petersoon and he wound up bring the guy drafted the highest from the area as well. And of course could be considered one of the best defensive backs in lsu history.

The OP pointed out guys from 10+ years ago who didn't come to UM who where high rated/nationally recruited guys. Look at RECENT history and alot of the high rated guys from south Florida have/are balling out. Once again

If your point is that there isn't talent falling through the cracks of recruiting services, etc., then you're going to get beaten down by the scores of players on NFL rosters who weren't highly rated coming out of high school. Matt Forte was a 2 star kid who went to Tulane. I've already mentioned Lavonte David. Jordy Nelson was a walk-on at KState. I could go on and on with more names of kids who fell through the recruiting cracks. So again, what exactly is your point?

Im talking about RECENTLY, you wanna go back 10+ years ago and act like recruiting/stars rankings/ and these reecruiting sites are still the same. Please...... jordy Nelson lol. And? Julio Jones, Aj Green, C Johnson, Alshon Jeffrey, Larry Fitgerald, Etc..... My point is guys want to talk about the but but but "Ed reed was a 2 star", "this is how butch did it". Do you realize how long ago that was? Recruiting sites/rankings have evolved. Butches TOP players who where drafted high at UNC where mostly high ranked guys. It's not the 90s anymore. People conveniently forget butch had to deal with an ACTUAL 30 scholarship reduction as well.


I NEVER once "trashed the class" or anyone in this 14 class like this ******* guy said I did in his op. I said not getting certain kids is a FAIL on GOLDENS PART. Golden should thank whoever Duke was ALL CANE in 2012 and was coming to UM no matter what. How about we bring up some of the porters who said Tracy, Deon, And even artie burns where getting paid before commuted to UM. Posters who called Stacy Coley a "south Florida diva", "lazy", "probably be another fred rouse", etc..... Go into the Sony Michel thread and see how any people BAsh the kid. Why isn't that brought up?

You're just ranting now. Making no sense. No one wanted Lavonte David coming out of high school, and none of the examples I brought up are "10+ years ago". Not getting certain kids is a fail? If so, then every coach in the history of Miami football has failed, over and over again, and every future coach at Miami will also fail.

Lol do you realize ND was just in the BCS championship game, their top guys are highly recruited 4-5 star players and ******* Notre shame is in south bend, Indiana. What are you even saying? Notre shame is not located in south florda where there are 10-20 future NFL players located every year. No one is saying anything negative about 4 star guys, dont know why your saying it like it's not common knowledge 4 stars are "suppose" to be good. People are harping on the well since so and so left 10+ years and didn't pick Miami.and "Butch got it done" 10+ years ago. It's ok for it to happen now. Wut?

After reading all 12-13 pages of "the Work" thread I really felt compelled to say something to some of yall. Especially to certain cats in particular. First off, I would say about 95% of you actually know nothing about how much we FAILED FAILED FAILED FAILED FAILED miserably in regards to South Florida recruiting in the Dennis and Butch eras. You want to talk to me about losing top talent in So Fla YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT??..Go ask Dennis and Butch about that. You think Al is bad?..Let me take you on a little walk down memory lane..

Go ask Butch about Rickey Sealey (LB out of Miami High) and how he played us in 95' cuz his mama wanted his sorry a$$ brother Norris to play with him so they went to Aub. Go ask about Marquand Manual (UF) and Clevan Thomas (FSU). Go ask about Martavious Houston (AUB). Go ask about Derrick Gibson (FSU), James Colzie (FSU), Sean Key (FSU), Rock Preston (FSU), Lawrence Wright (UF), Corey Simon (FSU), Zack and Henri Crockett (FSU), Samari Rolle (FSU), Troy Saunders (FSU) , Khalid Abdullah (FSU), Snoop Minnis (FSU), Bradley Jennings (FSU) AND ON AND ON AND ON..Remember losing WR Billy Brown out of St Thomas back in 1995 to FSU?! I could literally write an entire thread about the top talent that we lost IN SOUTH FLORIDA ALONE to FSU/UF/AUB year in and out back in the mid 90s and early 00s. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

And if you know anything about recruiting you would know that everyone I just named were NATIONALLY recruited guys. Everyone wanted them. No diamond in the roughs here. And rival schools walked right in Dade and Broward County and TOOK... THEM.... ALL.

And what did Butch do? Did he cry and whine about the **** after COUNTLESS FAILURES that at the time seemed like it would ruin our program and we would NEVER get back to prominence? NO. He used his knowledge, and everything that Jimmy taught him about eyeing talent and went out there and formed the greatest collection of talent in NCAA history. ONE THING we all can agree on is that AL is in the top 5 as far as best recruiters in the country and has an eye for talent. (It remains to be seen if he can develop that talent like Jimmy and Butch could)

Oh he just replaced them with two kids named Vernon Carey and Andre Johnson AND KEPT IT MOVING.

The next two UM classes (Jerome McDougle, Andrew Williams, DJ Williams, Jon Vilma, etc) built the foundation for a great DEFENSE that FSU couldnt do nothing with EVEN WITH all those 4 and 5 stars from Dade.
