Will add more. Line it's been said, recruiting is Way different now as far as how these kids are ranked/recruiting sites go. Maybe a kid like Travis Rudolph, Eddie Jackson, Alex Collis, etc.... Would be a "hidden 2 star gem" or whatever 10+ years ago. But not anymore. Too many camps, combines, too many people involved. When schools like UM or the same caliber offer. Now these sites automatically "re-evaluate" kids and bump their rankings/stars up. Demetrius Jackson from this year would not be a 4 star like he is his 10+ years ago during the "butch era". Look at this list. Look at the kids who have been drafted from UM RECENTLY and look at their star ratings. I'm pretty sure all if them where at least co sidere 4 star prospects by these recruiting services.

Nailed what? I can't figure out wtf the point is. We already know that SoFla produces a lot of talent. We also already know that a lot of that talent always has and always will leave the area. We also already know that a lot of that talent gets overlooked by the recruiting services and coaches (Lavonte David says hello).

I'll say this yet again...it took Butch 6 years to reap the benefits of his recruiting and talent evaluations. In the meantime, banners were flown calling for his head. The Randy years may as well have been probation years because he didn't bother to recruit after having the 2008 MNW class fall into his lap.

Best post around here in ages. I remember one thing Al does than Jimmy and Butch did is also evaluate football IQ. Because of the NCAA cloud over us we reached for some guys who were no doubt talented but were low on the football IQ chart. Also their character left much to be desired. Needless to say these players have since matriculated out of here.

On a side note: The Lambert award winner for best linebacker in college football went to a 2 star player from Ft. Pierce (Khalil Mack) I saw him in a game on TV and he is the real deal. All the expert recruiter missed out on this one.

Butches top/most talented players where highly rated guys.These guys are pointing out Santana moss, and Ed reed like it's the 90s still and shut doesn't change. Why don't you ******* read, instead of buying into the "rah rah" bull****. Like I said Look at UM now and the best guys on the team are pretty much 4-5 star guys. It really isn't hard to comprehend. The highest rated "south Florida" guy in 08 was Patrick Johnson/petersoon and he wound up bring the guy drafted the highest from the area as well. And of course could be considered one of the best defensive backs in lsu history.

The OP pointed out guys from 10+ years ago who didn't come to UM who where high rated/nationally recruited guys. Look at RECENT history and alot of the high rated guys from south Florida have/are balling out. Once again

And? We are getting a lot of the highly ranked players. That would be why we have one of the top recruiting classes in the nation right now. The issue is with people being idiotically unreasonable and thinking that we should be getting 80% of the best players in the area...something we didn't do even in our best years when we were winning championships.

First off, I would say about 95% of you actually know nothing about how much we FAILED FAILED FAILED FAILED FAILED miserably in regards to South Florida recruiting in the Dennis and Butch eras. You want to talk to me about losing top talent in So Fla YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT??..Go ask Dennis and Butch about that. You think Al is bad?..Let me take you on a little walk down memory lane..

Go ask Butch about Rickey Sealey (LB out of Miami High) and how he played us in 95' cuz his mama wanted his sorry a$$ brother Norris to play with him so they went to Aub. Go ask about Marquand Manual (UF) and Clevan Thomas (FSU). Go ask about Martavious Houston (AUB). Go ask about Derrick Gibson (FSU), James Colzie (FSU), Sean Key (FSU), Rock Preston (FSU), Lawrence Wright (UF), Corey Simon (FSU), Zack and Henri Crockett (FSU), Samari Rolle (FSU), Troy Saunders (FSU) , Khalid Abdullah (FSU), Snoop Minnis (FSU), Bradley Jennings (FSU) AND ON AND ON AND ON..Remember losing WR Billy Brown out of St Thomas back in 1995 to FSU?! I could literally write an entire thread about the top talent that we lost IN SOUTH FLORIDA ALONE to FSU/UF/AUB year in and out back in the mid 90s and early 00s. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

And if you know anything about recruiting you would know that everyone I just named were NATIONALLY recruited guys. Everyone wanted them. No diamond in the roughs here. And rival schools walked right in Dade and Broward County and TOOK... THEM.... ALL.

And what did Butch do? Did he cry and whine about the **** after COUNTLESS FAILURES that at the time seemed like it would ruin our program and we would NEVER get back to prominence? NO. He used his knowledge, and everything that Jimmy taught him about eyeing talent and went out there and formed the greatest collection of talent in NCAA history. ONE THING we all can agree on is that AL is in the top 5 as far as best recruiters in the country and has an eye for talent. (It remains to be seen if he can develop that talent like Jimmy and Butch could)

so I finally read this and I want 15 secs of my life back. you just talking to talk, there is no point. first of all, how the **** can you say Al is a top 5 recruiter and a top 5 eye for talent. what diamond in the rough player has turned into a stud for us? He pulled Tracy from down the road Miramar? or AQM b/c he couldn't get into Notre Dame? writing stuff in all caps doesn't make it true. You go on the mention a list of players that Butch didn't get without mentioning that we were under ACTUAL sanctions not some maybe yes maybe no threat of sanctions. Also the list of south florida studs that Miami has missed out on the last 3 years under Golden would be just as long. Then you go on the mention that Butch used his skills as a recruiter and with his eye for talent too build a beast team. what does that have to do with the here and now? There hasn't been any reason to believe that Golden has Butch's eye for talent. in fact looking at a few of the under the radar kids we have brought in, Ricardo Williams, Antonio Kinard, Armbrister, Corey King, Earl Moore, Danny Dillard, there's no reason to think Golden as any exceptional eye for talent at all. so they whole basis of your post was to say that despite Golden not showing no where near Davis's level of talent evaluation that b/c Butch Davis was able to find studs 15 years ago that Golden will be able to do the same? yea that makes sense

Butches top/most talented players where highly rated guys.These guys are pointing out Santana moss, and Ed reed like it's the 90s still and shut doesn't change. Why don't you ****ing read, instead of buying into the "rah rah" bull****. Like I said Look at UM now and the best guys on the team are pretty much 4-5 star guys. It really isn't hard to comprehend. The highest rated "south Florida" guy in 08 was Patrick Johnson/petersoon and he wound up bring the guy drafted the highest from the area as well. And of course could be considered one of the best defensive backs in lsu history.

The OP pointed out guys from 10+ years ago who didn't come to UM who where high rated/nationally recruited guys. Look at RECENT history and alot of the high rated guys from south Florida have/are balling out. Once again

What needs to be said is your point with all of these lists. What is it?

If your point is that there isn't talent falling through the cracks of recruiting services, etc., then you're going to get beaten down by the scores of players on NFL rosters who weren't highly rated coming out of high school. Matt Forte was a 2 star kid who went to Tulane. I've already mentioned Lavonte David. Jordy Nelson was a walk-on at KState. I could go on and on with more names of kids who fell through the recruiting cracks. So again, what exactly is your point?
