Al Golden as a man

I was working in the JMH/UM hospital area today and came across a bunch of Canes coming to see JoJo today and I left fairly late and I looked to my left while sitting at the light at 12th ave and I see Al Golden walking around. I call him over since we know each other and his eyes were bloodshot red obviously from crying. We spoke about JoJo and he told me he just passed and that he needed to go get some fresh air and went for a walk. The emotion this man spoke with about JoJo and that every player is like a son to him was what a parent wants from a coach for their son.

We spoke for about 5 minutes and parted ways but I then thought about when Malcolm Lewis was injured and there is not a doubt in my mind that this man truly cares for each and everyone one of his players. Im happy to know this is the kind of man that is leading my team.

I appreciate you posting that....

We all know the deal and and Al has quite a bit of slack to get it done on the field after what the program his endured..we can debate all day long whether he should or not.

One thing that is not debatable is what a stellar human being the guy is......I certainly hope nice guys don't always finish last, but it definitely seems to be the theme in college football in this day of Meyer, Saban and Miles types.

It's a Miami thing, not just a Golden thing...

Impressive that the statement by the OP encouraged you to write this!

Douchery knows no bounds

I dont know you.. I dont read your posts, Im guessing you're one of the "big dawgs" of this board but I dont give a flying f*** who you are, Im going to post what I want. With that being said...

"It's a Canes thing, you wouldn't understand" hasn't been a mantra of this football program for no reason..

Nowhere in this world could you fill an 85 man roster like you can in one city (even though we dont limit ourselves to that)...

When these kids leave UM, they go 10-20 miles away to there homes.. ANY coach that coached at UM HAS to be deeply rooted in the community.
You're just being a big PUNANYCANE.. this wasn't to discredit Golden in anyway.. but as the coach at UM you will be a part of the FAMILY... this program is like no other in the world in regards to the closeness and family atmosphere...

You punks get hard over him giving kids hugs and crying and any time he says "They fought there tails off".. I dont. It's been like this before, during and will be like this after Golden leaves! Everyone of our past coaches were just as involved in tragic situations, From Blades, to Pata, To Lovon Ponder being shot in the butt etc..

Kudos to Golden for showing up to a hospital 5-10 miles away... but what Miami coach wouldn't?

Carry on chump... R.I.P Jojo Nicolas... #CaneFAM

No words for your ignorance .

Good, I like it better when I dont have read some of ya'll phuckery!

P.s.

I also think this token cane cat is Chris Freet. Golden never saw a camera he didn't like.

Seriously, I havent seen him NOT put on an oscar performance ever!

****, he should win one for ACTING like a good coach cause he got these dudes fooled!

If he was such a good man he wouldn't be making us look like fools week in and week out by keeping his best friend.

Miss me with that "he's a good man" talk .. he's still the same dude that flat out lied in his Penn State interviews.

Funny how quick we forget.

Have you read anyones posts?

No one is forgetting that he is a ****** coach this is about a fallen cane and a coach that was there for his family

Fu*king pathetic where this post is headed.... A lot of tough guys who hide behind their keyboards.

Probably Mole Noles fans

Im actually not tough at all.. I only weigh 128, stand at 5'2 and have a son who's mixed with anglo-saxon but my wife swears it's just a skin defect

There are 30 plus pages of concern for or memory of JoJo posts between the Football Board and the WEZ and curiously, the majority of those posters in this thread badgering Golden have not posted their respects there, yet found the time to bash our Coach during a tragedy on the recruiting board.

That is not a Canes' thing, and if you think it is, it is you who don't understand.

RIP #29

This is an Al Golden thread. It was made to this discuss Al Golden. Sorry is some people dont want the guy blindly praised.

People are using this to prop him up as a coach as well

Most people want less talking & more results. Pointing out that he is a good man doesn't change that.

We are lucky to have him as HC. Hopes he starts winning big and stays around for 25 more years.

Whether you like him or dislike him on game day this man has done absolutely everything right off the field.

Golden is a very decent man working in an extremely tough job. I'm glad he is our coach...

We will see, Saban has not had to play against the NCAA stuff. He also went to a school that was winning from the beginning to give him want he wanted to create what we see.

The above are all posts in this thread and there are more. Saying you want the guy here for 25 years, comparing him vs Saban, etc have nothing to do with JoJo.

Was Al there for Jojo's family. Yes he was. I believe he is 100 percent sincere in that.

Has he also lied about making excuses as Miami's head coach yes he has. Did he lie about being a candidate for Penn State yes he did. He looked like a POW in the presser he held after the Penn State thing?? He also ignored recruits during that time. And for all the Al Golden is a great moral man. Pulling kids scholarships by never answering their calls and ignoring them is pretty shady. Yes its big time CFB but pick up the phone and be honest.

I would never have said a word about Golden in a JoJo thread, but that isnt what this is

So much ignorance in one post. How the fvck is he supposed to act? What does his record have to do with him being a good person? If you had a alma mater that you were emotionally connected to, you'd listen too. Is he supposed to come clean after he interviewed and let the class completely fall apart because he'd be the first coach to do so . You're clearly an idiot who sets absurd standards for everyone except yourself.

You seem to forget that the NCAA BS was never mentioned to him before he took the job yet he stayed here.

Hate on #aggot.

Most people want less talking & more results. Pointing out that he is a good man doesn't change that.

99% of athletics coaches in America would do the same thing. Is it a great gesture, sure it is, but ****ing idiots around here think it gives him some kind of pass for being completely deficient as a coach. You know who else cares about their kids, 3rd grade teachers.

Oh, and since most of you think Al Golden is some sort of saint, how do you explain his going dark and basically lying about the Penn State interview? The truth is if Golden HADN'T been at the hospital at JoJo's bedside, it would be more indicative of his character than if he had.

I bash Al all the time, but crawl back into your hole. If you cannot tell sincerity from bogus then you should shut up. Watch the tape of Malcolm Lewis on the tuff with that horrible injury. Not that Al ran out there; not that Al got on his hands and knees and held the kid; not that most people cry when they see that film; Al could have been faking and people can be overly emotional. The thing that says everything about Al caring about these kids was Malcolm. In agony, as Al got to his side, that young man reached up and pulled Al to himself. The KID knew who he wanted to hung him. Oh Al could have been doing want every coach would do, but teenage Malcolm Lewis, away from home on enemy ground reached up for one dude in his time of pain, that dude was Golden. Watch the tape, Malcolm pulled Al and held on to Al-- it was not Al posing for a camera.

You got kids? When they are scared, hurt or bad sick, they want the person they TRUST. Malcolm trust Al at a time like that. Exactly who are we, any of us, to judge better than that kid in pain. ***** the coaches, do you think 99% of college players would reach up and drag their coach into their arms to hug in that situation? I have never see a kid do that, have you? Is Al a saint? Nope. Is he one **** of a man when it comes to caring about the kids in his care? You already know.

Al golden is a great man and a guy you cant help but love and respect as a man because unlike most coaches and other people who would be in his situation he cares about others around him and especially the kids that he promises the parent that he'd take care of like they're his sons. With that said jojo passing shook me last night and I never even met the man. It shows that from the fans, the players, the coaches and the University we're a family united and anytime we lose a family member we lose one of our. RIP JoJo

So true i see so many posts on this forum and wonder myself but thats what comes with having a free forum ....

I see a lot of ignorance on this board. Probably the same ppl that paid for the "Fire Butch" flag that flew over the OB after 4 yrs here. Probably the same ignorant fans that now want Butch back. lol. What does "It's a Cane Thang" really mean? It means that no one penetrates this family, no one understands this family. It's US against the world. Notice how I emphasized US; yet, all I read is pathetic excuses from "fans" to bash a current member of the Canes family, even using a platform of someone's death to do so. FOH.

Let me ask you "so-called" Canes fans some questons: When was the last you saw us in any bowl game? When was the last time you saw a team w/ some assemblance? It sure wasn't during Shannon's era. ****, as a matter of fact, it was Shannon who burned the bridges w/ many HS coaches in SoFla b/c he focused only on two schools for recruiting, allowing FSU, LSU, and UF to penetrate our State of Miami fence. It sure wasn't during Old Slappy's tenure; that NC he won was w/ Butch's team (you know the same guy you wanted fired). Slappy was given the keys to a Benz SLS, lost control of it and crashed it into a tree. He stopped using the formula that was given to him.
Golden inherited crap, and he's changing the culture.

Have you seen the mutha****in' NFL combine??? Have you seen the results or the guys who just played for us? Our best WR (Hurns) may or may not be drafted based upon his performance at the combine. Morris (our pre-season Heisman watch QB) graded at a D+. Linder (our most stable OL) may or may not be drafted. Henderson (the No. 1 player in the country in 2010) grades as a 2nd-3rd round pick. The lone bright spot was our punter at the combine who will probably be the only punter drafted. Did you hear me mention any defensive players at the combine? No....b/c ain't none of them playing on Sunday via draft. Yet, that garbage we had pulled out 9 wins this year. Give the man some f'n credit and don't use a former's players death to blast him. That's a b*t*h move. Keep your eyes wide open...the man is actually pretty good w/ the s**t we've had the last 7yrs prior to his hire.

I was walking down San Amaro around 6 am one Friday morning and saw a man in an orange jumpsuit outside the Hecht. Hoping it was Golden I extended my arm to wave at him. I was across the street and about a block and a half away from the Hecht. The man got in his car and drove towards me, ultimately stopping and rolling his window down as we were next to each other. It was golden... And he stopped and offered me a ride home as we had a ******* awesome convo about Miami and our hometowns as we are both from outside Philly.

The interaction told me anything I had to know about him. I understand and agree with most criticisms but I'm rooting and pulling for Golden as much as I possibly could. I want him to succeed here so badly.

Edit: there were no cameras there you douche

First class post. One of the best I've seen in the short time I've been on this site.

Happened to me once with Frank Haith. Instead of taking me home we spent the next 8 hrs at Solid Gold. I had to promise to not tell his wife, he still owes me $75 AND he left me there without ever actually riding me home. Dude kept saying John Wall was coming to UM all night too. It wasn't a good time.

I wouldn't mind punching a couple of you ****ers right in the mouth

Thanks for sharing, OP. Great post.
