I think people are overreacting a little to the WR issue. Sure, the group could use a speedy target. But it's not a bad WR group. Some of the people on this board are making it sound like this is the year we trotted out Khalil Jones and the punter (Brian Monroe) as our top 2 WR's. This group has talent.

They did not have a good spring game, but I still think a group of Restrepo, K Smith, George, Brinson (who was out), B Smith, Ladson, Redding/Worsham (I doubt both will stay), and Horton is a solid rotation. There's likely no superstar in that group, but we have some diverse weapons. I would love to add a speedy vertical WR, but I don't think the situation is as dire as some are making it out to be.
Here's where the WR group gives me concern.

Rambo hauled in a lot of 50-50 and 60-40 balls last year, many for big chunk plays. Who will haul in those passes this year? Key hasn't demonstrated enough consistency yet; we all hope George is that guy but he had all of 7 catches that year. He is going to make a leap but there's no history to suggest he's that guy.

I liked what I saw out of Brinson in limited time last year. It's a shame he's been out because he seems like a guy with nice potential.

We’ve got a QB that can make them all look better that’s for sure

And *gasp running the ball will help a lot

It’s a good group depth wise, just maybe a year or so away for a couple of guys

But I agree in general. We don’t need (I mean that would be nice) Addison from Pitt, but we need someone to fill the Rambo role
Let's not forget we have 3 or even 4 TE's who can make plays in the passing game as well.

yikes

our opponents are going to run ball unapologetically and relentlessly down the throat of the weakest defense we've had in decades. Steele and his assistants are going to have to use all of their wits and grey hair experience to adjust and get creative. and we are going to have to score 35 points a game to win, which will be difficult as the opponent runs the ball and keeps TVD on the sideline.
This is a ridiculous take.

Rooster is the very definition of 'less is more' in terms of touches-- and just what kind he is getting

I winced a bit last year when Lashlee would give the ball over and over again late in games up the middle. That simply is not his game. To me, he's at his best getting about 10-15 touches from toss sweeps, passes out into the flat and the seam, screens, etc

But again, depth matters. Last year we really didn't have another 'big back' after Chaney got hurt

when kid says he's finally taking lifting serious in an interview, that's troubling to me. I want a kid who is an animal the moment he walks on campus.

for all this talk of 'resources', facilities, NIL... you still better get guys who love football. That will never change at this level of football and the NFL. Yeah, it's a business, but you better have some football playing gladiators

Not disagreeing there, just don’t think a true freshman summer enrollee interior DL will be ready to contribute major minutes, nor should he be expected to. He will be a **** good player for us and I an thrilled we signed him, but expecting him to contribute year 1 is unfair IMO.
Agree with you that there's got to be a reason that we (especially)- and other programs- don't seem to be pursuing Marquis Robinson more aggressively. For what it's worth, there's this:

Pretty speculative, but maybe some off-field attitude issues.

We might not have a choice. But if he can contribute on the same level or greater than LT did last season, it will be beneficial. And Taylor only got in because there were rumblings about him leaving if not. We shall see.
I think you just proved htown's point... Taylor was a 5 star can't miss and he only got play b/c of rumblings of transferring. And that is not b/c Taylor is likely to be a bust but b/c DT is one of the hardest positions to start as a freshman. If Moten is playing, it is a lot less likely due to him being the 2nd coming of Vince Wilfork and more likely due to a big depth/talent problem.

Moten is 6-3 and 320 now according to Mario. 4-star DT according to Rivals. And LT deserved more playing time before he got in. He didn't look great but he contributed despite the corching. If Ahmad can show that burst in fall camp and make strength gains, he could help us on Saturdays. The new staff won't hold young talent back.

D$ do you still think Leonard Taylor has 1st rd ability at DT if he’s considered undersized?

Coming out of HS he was a can’t miss 5 Star DT and best DL prospect from SoFla in years. Do you think he was overrated and his size will prevent him from being a true dominate DT?

Similar with Chaney. Thought he looked like a tier 1 RB Who could go rd 1-3 as a freshman. Now we’re talking about him as 4th on the depth chart and potentially passed by an incoming freshman?

These two guys had 5 star potential coming out of HS in SoFla. What happened

Having attended the last scrimmage and the spring game the lack of elite talent is appalling. Outside of TVD, a couple of the TEs, and Avante Williams I don't see any game-changers or early-round NFL picks.

The Manny apologists are gonna look even worse in the next 12-18 months than they do now.

Bum *** FSU loser who would've sunk the program for an additional three years if we didn't fire him in December.

We'll win some games for sure with a much-improved staff and the perpetually garbage Coastal, but a Miami roster with this many holes is inexcusable.

Looking forward to seeing what they do under a better coaching staff

Net/net very positive progress. IMO, the biggest concern of those mentioned, is DT size/depth. If we can't stop a strong run game, we have no hope of competing with the big dogs this season. With a quality QB, we can compensate for just about all of the other holes. If I had $100 of NIL money for transfers, I'd put $75 on a big, athletic run-stuffer...

Absolutely criminal the state that Manny left our front 7 in.

Both sides of the ball needs some purging. Not going to name names but we all know which guys aren’t cut out for this level. Some should have never been recruited here but he was desperate and filled this roster with JAGS.

I think LT would’ve thrived in Manny’s defense similar to Gerald Willis or RJ McIntosh but neither of those guys became high NFL draft picks or players that could stick around in the Pros

Chaney’s issue I think has been durability. But if he’s healthy he’s gotta be the best overall back on the team right? At least that’s what I figured but maybe he isn’t anymore or at least that’s what it sounds like D$ might be hearing

I would be surprised if we hang on to all our CB's. Even if you pencil in Blades and Frierson at the nickel/star position, we've still got Stevenson, Porter, Ivey, Dunson, Couch, Clarke, and Curtis returning, with Rogers, Graves, and Harris on their way in, all for 2 CB spots.

It's been mentioned before, but Curtis needs a look at WR.
