Where you from? / Origin of being a Canes fan

Military brat. Lived overseas until middle school when we moved to Kendall. Didn’t really know what football was, but the girl I had a crush on was a Canes fan. Figured out everything I could about them and I’ve been a die hard ever since. Now I live up in Minnesota. Seems like there’s a couple of us Sota fans.

Trenton, NJ. I put in a lot of work and took out a lot of loans(that I'll be payin' for a long time), to attend my dream school. It was all worth it.

From upstate NY. Lived many years in Syracuse, which by my time had become a basketball town. Left NY in mid-1980s, living in Texas and New Orleans before reaching Miami. Honestly, I did not care much for college football. The NFL monopolized my interest. But after living in Miami and attending grad school at UM, I became a Cane fan. My years in Miami and at UM were precious. I had good friends both at UM and in the city at large, loved the South Florida culture, and expanded my mind in route to my PhD. Had destiny kept me in Miami, I would have been happy. As luck would have it, I won a tenure-track job in San Diego where I still live. I love California and it perfectly matches my personality, but my heart is in Miami. The Canes represent my good memories, the friendships that I had, and the good fortune that came to me through UM. I did not realize how much UM and Miami meant to me until I watched NC#5 from a San Francisco hotel. After that, I learned more about Cane football and I now show a certain amount of arrogance among my colleagues who only know West Coast football and culture. I proudly exhibit my Cane gear for colleagues and students who don't understand the Miami thing. I love San Diego, but I miss Miami.

Born, raised, and currently living in Miami. Spent 10 years in NY, NJ and CA. Canes fan since the last 80s. My dad used to take me to watch the Canes at the OB. Been following them ever since (even through the droughts in the 90s and post 2002).

I still remember, as a kid less than 10 years old, what an amazing atmosphere we had at the OB. It was impressive. The old girl was larger than life, especially at night. Those were the good old days! GO CANES!!

Also born and raised in Syracuse NY. Used to go to the dome as a teenager every Saturday for something to do. The first time Miami came to the dome I fell in love. Ever since then I bleed orange and green!

Jersey

Just felt like the kids that got a chance there and the areas they was from, felt it was a hood thing and a swag thing and fell in love since 99. Was more into the pros but really got into UM more in 08, felt like the college kids played with more fire.

I made sure I made plenty more fans too like about 16 people are fans cuz of me, born to recruit

I'm from Valrico, Fl, a suburb of Tampa. Grew up in the 80s as a elementary school kid and I always watched the Canes play and loved them. We used to play backyard football and I would go out for passes and when I caught it would be like "Chudzinski!!!". Haven't wavered since. There's been some major ups and some downs. My absolute favorite sports team on any level.

Townhouses in Kendall. Great football in that neighborhood. Thought we were Chuck Foreman or on the D the Raiders. We would pretend to be Jack Tatum on D, and clothesline each other. You learned not to drop a pass or you’d be relegated to the OL. Pee wee ball at K-Land. Hubert Ginns kid was on team there. My 55 lb Pee wee Team was one of four games on field (artificial turf then) during Canes halftime at OB. Chuck Foreman was my hero back then. Love Canes ever since.

Cincinnati, Ohio. My Dad let me stay up to watch the Nebraska stomping as a child in 01 and it's been a wrap since then. Already hated the Buckeyes so I needed a team.

I'm from Texas, went to Miami my first year of college in 1996. I was in the band so I got to go to every home game and the Carquest Bowl. Been a fan ever since.

London, England. My parents went to Miami for their honeymoon in the 80s and my father fell in love with all things Miami. All these years later I found myself playing Madden 03, learning the game inside and out and finding a love for it. Followed his footsteps and fell in love with Miami. Took me to my first canes game against Clemson in 2009.

Born and raised in the city of Miami. I always lived close enough to the OB to hear the crowd. Became a fan in 1951. My dad was a big fan, so it was in my blood.

Born in raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. My uncle used to play with the Cincinnati Bearcats and I remember being a lil boy when Bernie Kosar came to Cincinnati. I told my uncle that the team with the U on their helmets kicked their butts. Ever since then I've been a fan. Plus I have that same us against the world mentality. People hate to see trend setters as the U and I love it! Always a Canes fan!

I grew up in the Gables. Both of my parents are alumni, and I started going to the OB as a kid in the mid ‘70s. The rise of the Canes in the late 70’s and early 80’s was incredible to watch. We went from an afterthought to the center of the college football universe. I was there for the first Championship Game against Nebraska... still the most exciting football game I have ever attended. I attended college in the NE, and have never moved back to S. Florida, but try to attend one game a year somewhere. I am extremely passionate about the Canes.....

From Kenosha Wisconsin. Grandfather played QB at UM 1954-55. It's in my blood for life. I attended at least one home game a year and always a road game also.

Central PA, just north of Harrisburg. Pedo State country. Uncle took me to the PSU / MIAMI game in 91 or 92 and somehow got us down on the field during warmups. Gino's running out of the tunnel, see's this 9 year old kid rocking Canes sweats amongst all the white and blue, stops and gives me a high five. Cane for life since that moment.
