Can anyone find a clip of him making an off platform throw? I've looked throw several highlight videos and I'm not seeing it
Against Miami what did he do?
-Took easy stop route throws against off coverage
-Hit a one read RPO
-Made two back shoulder throws which while solid are throws that are largely dependent on the WR making adjustments. That's the one route he does throw fairly well.
-Few swing routes?
-Am I forgetting something?
Indiana is extremely well coached. They do a lot at the LOS with CWM's to make things as easy as possible for the offense in general which obviously effects the QB. Yes their coaches are smarter than ours are just about anyone else's. Indiana hired a coach who clearly has what most people would consider to be "personality defects". Mildly autistic. Aspergers? Call it what you want. He's hired coaches who are smart not a collection of former jocks. Yes mot played football but that's not really why he hired them. They are smart people, an SD or so above most of the opposing coordinators they face, They call plays that make it easy for him and make adjustments at the LOS that make it easy for them. It wasn't the case at Cal and it won't be the case in the NFL.
Skillset;
-Mendoza doesn't throw on the move very well or at least hasn't shown the ability to do it.
-He hasn't shown the ability to actually make real progressions
-The arm talent is okay but nothing exceptional
-Mobility is decent but nothing incredible
-Prototype size
-So everyone doesn't get upset.....yes he's shown toughness
I honestly don't know why anyone thinks he is worth a 1st rounder. The guy has never shown msot of the key traits you need to be successful in the NFL. Well actually I do.....media hype and his association with a 16-0 national champ. The fact that he was mostly a game manager on said team; eh we can all disregard that. That's why we'll see statements like "He's a winner" as if that's a thing. Why didn't he win at Cal?
Go watch a highlight tape of Cam Ward and compare it with Mendoza's. Watch Joe Burrow make off platform throws, avoid the rush while keeping his eyes down field, and flash A level arm talent. Go watch Jared Goff, an absurd comparison I've seen, and you'll see that Goff processed at an extremely high level in a far more complex timing based offense. If you can't see the difference between those four guys I don't know what to tell you.
I think NFL coaching staffs will be extremely unimpressed with his workouts and the actual evaluations they do once they put his college career under a microscope. But this decision won't be theirs to make. Owners and many GM's, largely rich dummies, have become enamored with him because of media coverage and will bully their coach into a pick they don't want to make.
