Darnold has plus arm strength. I don’t see that comp for Mendoza at all. He was also turnover prone in college and still is.
He has an invite to the Senior Bowl. One of the morning sports shows did a piece strongly advising him to go.Whether people think Mendoza is #1 or not, he likely will be. Raiders are desperate. They will gamble on him.
As for Beck, a lot depends on how he does at the Combine. Does he show a strong arm? Accuracy? If NFL teams request a medical exam, what will it show about his arm? Has it healed 100%?
Regardless of what people think of Mendoza, the reality is that Beck had the opportunity to become a legend at the end of the game and failed. Can't blame him for the loss. But, can't credit him for winning either. A #1 like Cam would have pulled out the win.
yep. and Brady was on the sidelines on Monday, along with the GMThe GOAT (Tom Brady) will more than likely be evaluating him. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.
I've avoided making one cause if I took the time to look at NFL QB's and relate it to where I think his career ends up you'd probably get ****ed and call me "biased" or a "hater" or something like that. I honestly don't wanna hear it. I think his ceiling is probably at the current version of Darnold and much closer to version 2025 than 2024.
The reason I scoffed at Cousins is that he processed at a high level coming into the NFL. You probably know that Shanahan wanted to take Cousins in the 3rd or 4th, which they did, and not mortgage their future for RG3. Imagine where the Redskins would have been had they listened to him. Cousins takes over much earlier and they retain all that draft capital. Shanahan wanted Cousins as he'd shown advanced passing skills in a timing passed offense in college. Could Mendoza learn to do that? Yeah. It's very unlikely though. I've worked with half a dozen HS QB's as a programs analyst including one fairly recent unanimous five star recruit and the experience has taught me that those skills, processing coverages and making good decisions in a progression based offense, are to a large degree innate. Either a player has them or they don't. Yes they can be improved but it is a hellish grind and it has real limits.
The offense Mendoza played in this year was incredibly simple. I think a lot of what they did was CWM based or if/then constructs that allowed him to look a lot better than his actual skill set, not enhanced by having the best coaching staff in the sport. think Indiana probably does have the most intelligent staff in CFB....see my 1st post about coaches with "personality defects" and an SD above. He won't get to take that with him to the NFL. He'll also be facing far more complex defenses that do a much better job of masking coverages. NFL coverage shells move like accordions pre snap. It's not like college where you get 20 hours a week to install your stuff. Combine this with what appears to be mid level arm talent and athleticism.....I have a very hard time seeing him excel. Going high in the draft is probably the worst thing for him as he'll go to an awful team putting him in virtually the polar opposite position of what he was in at Indiana this year with a high quality veteran team around him and elite coaches.
I wanted to get your thoughts on it. I am legit curious. Not watching some dummy on youtube who doesn't work in football tell me about "heart" and "leadership". You can stop trying to convince me that Mendoza is a top shelf talent. I don't get why it's such a big deal to you that others disagree.
Wasn't expecting something respectful. Sorry. I met Chase once. Nice guy. I'll watch it later.I wanted to get your thoughts on it. I am legit curious.
This “dummy” is Chase Daniels, who played in the NFL, well….he was a back up QB for most of his 13 year career and is an ESPN analyst.
Not sure if your resume is better than his but it sounds like it is, so please forgive me, oh QB overlord.
Except the Dolphins..Honestly with the pressure we generated, he doesn't seem like a guy that will be durable in the league. That hero running **** will take 5 years off his career if he tries that in the NFL. I think he will be a very average QB, maybe 4-5 years in the league, but an All-Pro? I don't think so. If he had trouble with Bain and Mesidor, wait till he gets to the NFL where there is a Bain and Mesidor on every team, with a secondary to back them up.
That isn't what happened. Wes was being double team blocked and fought off the block literally right as Mendoza is making contact with him.“He can’t play at the FBS level”
“He can’t play at Miami”
“He’s just doing what Indiana did last year and not elevating anything”
“He’s the worst Heisman ever”
“He only played average in his national championship win”
“He doesn’t deserve the #1 pick”
At this rate, people in here will be starting threads about how he shouldn’t be in Canton.
Just tip your cap. Everybody here was wrong. I was bullish on him since high school and I was still way wrong about his ceiling.
Mendoza won everything possible last season and ran over our best LB on the biggest play of the game. This all feels like sour grapes and loser talk.
Cooper Rush.So you are just going to use Burrow and Ward as the people I need to watch to tell me Mendoza sucks? lol.
I asked you for a comp earlier since you scoffed at my Kirk Cousins and Sam Darnold NFL comps.
Give me an NFL comp for Mendoza, all knowing QB whisperer, wether it’s a current or past NFL QB.
D you keep pushing this “tuff” narrative on here and on all your pods about him running over Wes…And I think they do that more to protect others. He’s capable of more.
I’ve been the high man on him since high school, and he’s still a million times better than I thought. Running over Wes was unfortunately the play of the game.
Wes is the man. Incredible Cane and a cornerstone of the defense. I’m not trying to down him at all. He smoked Mendoza the year before when he was in space and unoccupied. But it was a physical finish by Mendoza and we’d be going crazy if our guy did it.D you keep pushing this “tuff” narrative on here and on all your pods about him running over Wes…
That’s a bunch of bull and you need to stop saying/writing that…
Wes was actually being BLOCKED while trying to make the tackle, I’ve went back and looked at the the especially since you keep saying that…
Wes was attempting to make the tackle WHILE still engaged with the OL…
The way you keep inserting that statement would lead one to believe that he simply trucked Wes in a one on one situation…
I know you love Mendosa but these hyperbolic statements to inflate his overall game and this play is irresponsible…
No doubt about it. He's like Tebow even though they had different playing styles. An elite CFB player who is gutsy, but doesn't have it for the NFL. Although, between the two, Mendoza at least has the skill set to possibly make it at least as a backup, whereas Tebow NEVER had the skillset, and could've played for 10+ years in the league as an elite TE/H-back, but his pride wouldn't allow him to do it.He will be a bust given he will go #1. Defenses will crush him.
