What we are

Simple questions, do we get the most out of the talent we do have? Do we play up or down to our competition? Bottom line, do we play sound, quality football with whatever it is we do have?

When your coach says of App State, "that's what they do to people", what are they doing it with? They don't have our recruiting, facilities, exposure, etc., yet they take us to the mats. I personally agree we may never be Bama again, but I just want to want to watch a **** game and have the team play good football whistle to whistle, win or lose. I can't even remember the last game I thought they did that.

This is what you goth boys do: glomp on some little quote, in a quick spur of the moment post game interview on the field, from a coach that was obviously shook by a real shltty performance.

I’m not apologizing for the guy, the only thing that was acceptable about Saturday night was the result, which was a win.

The rest of it was lackluster.

Now go go put on some more black lipstick and black eyeliner and put your dark black coat on and walk around with a vacant angry look on your face. Go canes.

And to answer your simple question, it’s really easy. Nobody gets the most out of the talent they have. The question is are we getting enough out of the talent we have. And that will be answered this coming Saturday and in the weeks to come.

I think it’s a pointedly good question though and a lot better than simple Manny Sucks vomit.

How do we perform against teams in comparison to where everyone recruits? That goes to coaching and development. And if it’s evals, that’s on the people choosing the players.

This is where a huge chunk of people are at here, me being one of them.

Do we really need to wait? Fans were out here calling for Coker's head after 2002 and 2003. Fans were out here calling for Richt's head after three straight losses in 2017.

I can guarantee that this Cane fanbase, still with delusions of 80s grandeur, probably with entire man caves filled with Irvin posters and old VHS tapes of the 83 Cornhusker game, will want Manny gone after five straight #15 finishes. They'll scream about Manny being a choke artist, cant win big games, cant get over the hump, blah blah blah.
You are correct Sir....

Here's is what we are, and what we've been for the last TWO DECADES. These points have been discussed ad nauseum by myself and several other long time posters on this board that have the ability to see the obvious and understand that everything else we ***** about on these boards are SYMPTOMS. I tend to be the kind of person that likes to focus in on the DISEASE and attempt to fix the problem at the root.

- We are a football program with a group of decision makers that, as a whole, don't care about upper echelon success out of the football program.
- We are a football program that, within that contingent of decision makers referenced above, have a small contingent of people in that group that do care...but are completely incompetent when they do get their shot to make a change and help out the program.

Remember back in high school when we studied graphs, the X and Y axis, and all that good stuff? The University of Miami's football program operates in the geographical section of the graph that represents the intersection of APATHY and incompetence.

There's nothing else that needs to be said or analyzed. I had a long conversation this past week with one of the most golden of the golden Canes who knows more than probably anyone on this board....and I can tell you I didn't like what I heard. This program, for all intents and purposes, is relatively dead (from the standpoint of regaining greatness) for at least the near future.

THE MAJORITY OF THEM DON'T CARE. PERIOD. Maybe it won't make a difference, maybe it will....but implore all of you to stop donating and stop buying season tickets. I'd rather the program be shut down than be run in the manner it's currently being run.

So would something like this over the next 5 years in terms of final rankings be acceptable?

2021 - 9th
2022 - 15th
2023 - 12th
2024 - 9th
2025 - 7th
If you're asking me whether I'd sign this right now, then yes, I would. It'd be a marked improvement.

The issue with the question, of course, is that it occurs in a vacuum, and it's hard to know the substance of each finish.

But right now, we'd all be NUTS not to sign up for this.

Stop it. Wake has averaged 5.2 wins over the last 11 years, Pitt has averaged 6.8. We have averaged 7.5 Wins a season over that same span. A crap number for what we should be as a program, but we are not them.
So there is a big difference between Pitt and Miami's results, including our stellar bowl record? Wake i''ll give you but if Manny continues, give him time.

The Athletic released a poll of coaches/ADs on the best jobs in college football. Miami finished 13th.

247's "Team Talent Composite" calculates total recruiting rankings for each team's roster. Miami finished 13th.

Before the season, the AP poll picked us 14th. Our NFL numbers fluctuate but are now in the 10-13 range.

What's the point? I think a fair current expectation and goal is the Top 15. Anything outside of that is a disappointment, and anything within that is progress. Amazingly, we only finished Top 15 once in the past sixteen years. That was 2017, when we finished 13th.

We all know the ceiling is higher than Top 15. This is a program that has won championships in three different decades. But the best way to move towards that long-term goal is to hit the realistic short-term goal. This team needs to beat Michigan State, perform well in the ACC, hopefully win a bowl and finish in the Top 15. That is a fair expectation.
I agree. And if we don't, the coach should be fired. That is a fair expectation in year 3.

It means Manny would be successful and each passing year under Garcia or TVD, the team improves as they project to be better than King. Not as good next year or year 2. No college playoff but at least making it to Charlotte the majority of the 5 years. Also doesn’t mean we won’t lose 3-4 games a year as there is more mediocrity outside of the top 5.

I’d sign up for five straight top 15 finishes all day. That’s a million times better than what we’ve been

waaaay ahead of the curve, in fact
Exactly. Such a retarded argument. I can’t even brag about being right about those coaches. Where are they now? But we are supposed to stick with Díaz because of the incompetence of 2 administrations and multiple AD’s prior? It’s ridiculous. It’s insanity.

We finished 22nd last year, hired a couple expensive coaches and brought almost everyone back. Top 15 is a very realistic expectation without having to live in the past.
Realistic expectation. When does it become the expectation? When does winning the ACC become the expectation? Winning a playoff game, competing for a MNC?

Yes, Manny has turned almost the entire staff, be it some leaving, or some fired. That generally puts the coach on the hot seat. Why do I feel Manny does not sense his seat is hot? New coaches, same issues. Manny takes over the D and we have issues. They are his players, he has been here the entire time.

Like the baseball board, oh we cannot compete due to the cost of the school. Well, we get the number one class. Well, the upper class men are not doing their job. When do we determine we have failed head coaches? When do we see that the same problems continue week in and week out? When do we see if might not necessarily be money that is holding us back, but the acceptance of excuses?

Highsmith wanted to bring in accountability and Blake and Manny said no. That is the program in a nutshell.

Agreed. And none of those things are going to happen. We are not a top 15 program. Diaz is a joke.

i am kinda starting to understand why you are the #1 reported poster here.

Feeling ourselves today, aren’t we?

you certainly dont, as you must have lost your sense of humor
You caught him on a bad day battling the black lipstick crowd. He’s the most reported active poster. No one can touch NYSOM thank God. Do you know who the second most reported poster is? I’ll give you a hint. He’s a…

Like I said in another thread, basically the equivalent of a top tier Sun Belt team.

Look at where Coastal Carolina and Louisiana finished last season.
Your reading compression skills on sat must have been uhh um impressive

Just thinking about this, but Miami hasn't had a head coach that others have coveted since Butch Davis

The rest have been cast away for the most part. That's telling. They have either been relegated to being assistants or just not coaching, at all

I mean, Coker had a national title to his credit -- and had to take time off before getting a start up program. That's telling
