#WelcomeToTheU Ty Gauthier

Dude doesn't even have a recruiting profile page, sigh

How about welcoming the kid instead of taking time to trash the offer? The kids went to camp and showed enough to the coaches to get offered. We want kids that are willing to compete and work for an offer, that's what he did.
I'm not trashing the kid since he decided to show up and work for it, but **** near every kid that earned his offer by showing out at camp and then committing has turned out pretty poorly..

I would love to see a list of kids that committed during a Golden camp and how they turned out so far. Off the top of my head: Dortch, Jontavious Carter, , Vernon Davis, Larry Hope, Jake O'Donnell, Standish Dobard.

List of guys who were offered and committed after camping.
Trayone Gray "Miami Gardens (FL) Carol City High School athlete Trayone Gray landed a Hurricane offer after showing off his skills at today's Al Golden summer camp. Before he left campus he was a Cane commitment."

Courtel Jenkins "Wayne (NJ) De Paul Catholic DT Courtel Jenkins arrived at Sunday's Al Golden Summer Camp hoping for a Hurricane offer. And he impressed coaches so much while there that he had the offer before he got on the plane back home for New Jersey. After talking things over with his family Jenkins arrived at a final college decision today. He has committed to the Miami Hurricanes."

Darrell Langham "They offered him a while ago and he didn't want to commit early," said Santaluces coach Daryl Drinkwater. "But he called me today from the camp and said he was really comfortable with the coaches, what they were trying to do with the program and where they were trying to go."

Ryan Mayes "When Miami Northwestern High School CB/WR Ryan Mayes attended the Al Golden Summer Camp on Sunday, he was hoping for a Cane scholarship offer. He knew what he'd do if he got one: Commit. And that's exactly what happened. Mayes landed the offer he wanted and committed late Monday night."

Darrion Owens "Saturday, Owens traveled to South Florida for an unofficial visit to the Al Golden Summer Camp. It was his first time at Miami, but it will not be his last. Owens committed to Miami coaches Saturday afternoon."

Malik Rosier "Mobile (AL) Faith Academy QB Malik Rosier was on UM's campus earlier this month for an Al Golden summer camp session. After a three-hour meeting with coaches following the camp, Rosier told CaneSport.com that UM had shot to the top of his list. And now Rosier has taken that to the next level, committing to the Hurricanes."

Mike Smith "Saturday morning, while attending yet another session of the Al Golden Summer Camp, Smith decided to tell Golden and Miami coaches that he finally was ready to pull the trigger on his commit."

Juwon Young "Albany (GA) High School LB Juwon Young arrived at UM yesterday for an unofficial visit to Miami. And today he chose the Hurricanes. "It was because of the school atmosphere, the coaches - they told me about the school, were straight up about everything, the academics, how classes are small," Young said. "I committed to coach (Al) Golden - he was just excited, very happy. Coach (Micheal) Barrow also was excited about me committing there, congratulating me on being a Cane." Young took the visit with his uncle and participated in the Al Golden camp today."

Regardless of how some feel about these camps, it is really becoming the back bone of recruiting for this team. It helps in multiple ways, 1 it allows this staff to see underclassmen as well as unknown kids up close and personal. Second, it serves as a unofficial visit for high rated kids allowing this staff to continue to build a relationship with them.

There's Mr. Sunshine!

Im sure first thing you did was check to see if he had an offer from FSU or SEC schools like a lot of complainers on here
whats wrong with that? Its pretty clear that some of those schools are evaluating talent better than we are.

You were probably one of those guys who busts a nut when we got dudes that Butch offered

if you want to attack the coaching staff for player development or scheme, there's another forum for that, but this staff has done a really good job in finding and evaluating talent. give credit where it's due

Please list all that talent you're referencing.

Also, please include all the 'talent' this staff found that is no longer here, or ended up busts.

Negative my friend... as far as recruiting goes this staff has jumped on some talent very early before anyone else offered them.

Point being all the negative comments come out when we offer and someone commits like this. Kid very well may explode and get many more offers from now until signing day or he may not, either way staff saw something they liked, they offered back in Feb and he committed.

And no I don't bust nuts for guys....do you?

There are some kids that this staff was on first, but there are local kids like Burgess-Becker and T. McFadden that they were late to the party on. There's more too.

Congrats to the kid, looks more like a center or guard. I'm going to disagree that linemen is the hardest position to evaluate, IMO RB is the hardest position to evaluate. This was a risky pick up because there are so many linemen left on board that's similar to this kid but does it in a faster, more technical aggressive style. But anyone who wants to be apart of the U much respect, no need to bash the kid, it was the staff's call.

lll trust 247, Rivals, Scout, etc over my analysis from a highlight tape. Nearly all highlight tapes look strong.

No stars. No want.

Oh but wait, Ed Reed had only two stars.

Stop. Stars are the best indicator we have.
up until a couple of weeks ago Rivals had Dexter Williams as 0 stars. Simply means he hasn't been evaluated yet.

oh yeah, that Brad Kaaya guy also was a 2 star at this point of the year.

That being said, I have no idea if this guy is any good or not, as is the case with a lot of guys we are recruiting

Rivals now lists him as a three star. Yawn.

Smith, Young, Langham and Owens all had offers before the camp. Committing at the camp isn't the same as being offered at the camp. The camp is a good took to evaluate underclassmen and take rising seniors on UOVs during the summer while getting to know their famlies

Offers > Stars

Offers. That's what you need to be looking at.

I trust the evaluations of college coaches over the evaluations of guys who've never played the game before. Our best/most consistent Lineman was a 3-star. This kid's high school film looks pretty similar to his. He's dominating high school kids like any future D-1 Lineman should. IMO a good Lineman doesn't have a tape full of stalemates, he has a tape where he's bullying people every play.

Dude's a great run blocker with good size, really good technique with great leg drive. Fires out low and keeps leverage, good eyes on the 2nd level stuff. Don't think he has the feet to be a college OT but showed enough to where he should be solid there at guard, looks like he anchors well enough but needs a lot of improvement with technique in pass pro.

On board with this analysis.

And you see that, guys? Instead of stumbling around like blind mules, arguing about whether this is a good pickup or not based solely on his Rivals page, this dude watched tape; developed an opinion; shared.

But, like, 24/7 doesn't have a composite ranking of him yet and I don't know how to pronounce his last name and I breathe exclusively through my mouth, so booooooo.

It's a French last name. Pronounced Go-T-A essentially.

May have missed my point, but I appreciate it.

And with that new information considered....FRENCH? French, you say? A Frenchman on my OL? What's this kid gonna do? Stand up, turn around, and retreat at the sound of heavy breathing from the opposing front 7?

DO NOT WANT.

Folks are entitled to differing opinions on the potential quality of a commit but I don't think a Welcome to the U thread is the right place.

Welcome to the U, Ty. Hope you feed off doubters and haters the way great Canes have for decades.

I saw the kid. He has great size, but I spent more time watching my nephew work out with the Jr.s on the O line. Coach Kehoe did a great job as usual. If you learn one thing from the camp, it is stay low. Low man wins.

Welcome to the U, Ty. You will get an outstanding education.

Welcome to the U

So the star whores think we should just offer 4/5 star players and hope they come?? How did that work out for Coker? This isnt 80s/90s. Miami is what..a few games over .500 the last 8 years. Its not like we have been winning lately. Most of these kids were 6/7 years old last time Miami was relevant.
