I am happy Miami was able to manage a tough win against the top 10 opponent to open the season. A team that was the national championship runner up the prior year. Notre Dame is the best team the Canes will play all season, unless Miami qualifies for the playoffs.
All the chatter about Carson Beck’s two years of starting experience at the top of the SEC, yet Miami can’t sustain any drives after the second half opening TD drive? 23 total yards. I’m hoping this was a function of Notre Dame’s adjustments and talented defense. The Irish excel at holding in the secondary. This plus an inexperienced wide receiver room.
All I’m asking for is a little more creativity. And no more bubble screens, my God. I don’t know what Dawson and Mario’s fetish for those plays is but the only one I can remember breaking for a long gain was Colby Young from TVD two years ago, in the season opener against Miami of Ohio.
Fortunately, Miami managed a good kickoff return and a short drive (aided by a 15-yard penalty) for the game winning long field goal.
Kudos to Carter Davis. He bombed the game winner and it would’ve been good from 60 yards.
I am happy with the defense. Notre Dame has a good offensive line and was national championship runner-up for a reason. After nearly collapsing and losing in the game, the defense came out big on the last series after the field goal.
Let’s see how they play against a lesser team, but one with an experienced quarterback and a varied offense. Last year‘s defense looked pretty good last season against the Gators and we know how the defense ended.
