Travonte Valentine Problem?

DT recruiting is gonna be the death of me.... and maybe this coaching staff.

Yup. I don't know if it's bad luck, not identifying the "right" kids, evaluation, etc. Probably a combo of the 3 but I am bewildered. Certainly what's not helping is how our defense is playing. It's easy to negatively recruit against us at DT. All an opposing coach has to tell the DT is "look at the defense they run - they ask the DT to clog the middle with 2 gap responsibility and don't ask you to rush. And, they get gashed week after week." If I'm a DT, how the heck am I going to strongly consider going to UM regardless if I was a UM fan growing up?

You cannnot when in college football with the horses on the line.

The list of DT misses these past 3 years...I don't even...

First off, we lose Valentine and the bottom drops out of this class FAST.

Second, PUNCICANE, I agree that if you surround Dnonfrio with 4-5 star defensive players he really has no choice but to succeed. (I guess) Maybe thats why Al wants to keep him on. Give him a fair shot at some great talent.

I do think Valentine sticks though. I really think all this LSU talk is to get his boy Michael Johnson an offer. Hasnt he been wanting an LSU offer for a minute?

I agree.

We need this kid (to put it lightly), but he or any of the freshman DTs shouldn't be relied on for serious burn in 2014.

We lose Porter and Robinson, we need some JUCOs to help out (Wyche).

LSU already offered Johnson a while back

You're right. We shouldn't have to rely on a true freshman.

Pierre, Wyche, hopefully Johnson and hopefully somebody on the roster right now will step up. That should give us a solid 4-man rotation and we won't have to throw a true freshman DT to the wolves.

DL and OL, I hate throwing freshman out there more than any other position.

If I had to guess who on the roster could step up, it would be Hamilton if he is healthy or Kamalu. I think Kamalu or Hamilton should be inside because of their size (if not already). I don't think we will get much out of Moore or King.

If I am Al, I would sign 2 more JUCOs over another HS Senior at DT. Assuming Valentine sticks, we have Molton and Jenkins. That is a good hall for 2014. By the time these 2014 JUCOs leave, the 2014 Class (Valentine, Molton and Jenkins) should be adjusted to the program and ready to step up.

2014 Depth Chart

Pierre (SR)
Kamalu (SR or Rd-Jr)
King (Rd-Jr)
Moore (Jr)
Hamilton (Jr)
Wyche (Jr)
2014 JUCO DT II (JR)
2014 JUCO DT III (JR)
Valentine (Fr)
Molton (Fr)
Jenkins (Fr)

11 DTs is more than I would normally want (8-9) but we need to start developing these kids since we have so many question marks at the position.

All things considered, our 3 losses aren't much worse than LSU's...

FSU, VT & Duke verses Bama, Georgia & Ole Miss

King will be a RS SO

In 2014. King will be in the program for 4 years (11, 12, 13 and 14).

2014: (Redshirt Jr.) Next Season

2013: (Redshirt So.) This Season

2012 (Redshirt Freshman): Played in nine games, making one start ... Tallied 13 tackles, including six solo stops ... Made Miami debut in third game against Bethune-Cookman, making two stops ... Had season-high three tackles against Notre Dame and USF ... Made career-first start against Notre Dame ... Earned letter.

2011 (True Freshman): Sat out first season at Miami, redshirted to retain eligibility

Still have hope for Moore and Pierre as they get older. I would be surprised to see King here next year.

My bad, I thought he was a true fr in 2012. ****, we'll have 3 DTs who will be JRs next year who have done nothing. Talking about serious JAG issues.

We will see, he scares me more than Moore since King has been here for an extra year. Players tend to show their worth after their 3rd season.

No worries. Which 3 are you referring to?

Moore, King and Hamilton (although in a 3-4, I guess he's a DE).
