TOS report on RJ and Kendrick

Did RJ pull the oopti opp on Norton?

McIntosh's presser with Mean Gene Okerlund is scheduled for 4pm where he goes total heel and says he's sick of carrying Norton on his back and just wanted him gone so he can get proper shine by himself here next year and go in the 1st round.

He'll bust into a Dusty Rhodes voice and say "It was all a work, Doggy! I have wined and dined with kings and queens and I've slept in alleys and dined on pork and beans. While the boys are in the back, laughin' and jokin', RJ is out back drinkin and smokin! Woooooo!"

Or they agreed together to space their announcements to declare a few hours from one another.

The departure of both starting DTs early to the NFL is a massive blow. There's no way any reasonable person can sugarcoat the loss. We go from being Coastal Division favorites to playing second fiddle (again) to VT. The VT coaching staff convinced their talented underclassmen (including, their best DT) to return. Also, the game next year is at Blacksburg and will likely be played in prime time. Our starting QB will either be a frosh or Rosier. No matter how you spin it, VT will be the favorite.

Criticizing the coaches for not having a backup plan and targeting more DTs earlier in the year is fair game. The possibility of both McIntosh and Norton leaving was discussed in the spring. We should have recruited another DT last year and should have more than one player committed this year. That's the truth and reflects poorly on Richt, Kool an Diaz. However, even if the coaches had 3 or more DTs committed right now, that would not significantly alleviate the impact we are about to experience next year. That problem should have been addressed two years ago. It takes several years of top-notch recruiting to overcome the loss of your top 3 defensive tackles. Teams like 'Bama and Clemson can do it but not many others....we clearly are not ready.

I'm a big proponent of "next man up", but DT is not a position that is plug-and-play at the highest level of college football.

This hurts depth no doubt about it but this should also help with recruiting too

Someone has the case of the Mondays..

Yes, I agree on having some Frosh on the roster now at DT but 2 years ago is a stretch being that they had less than 2 months to get that class signed.

Another sign was LB this year. They wanted 1 kid in Joyner and that was it? That was before Owens and Gordinier decided to leave. I never understood that thinking.

We have some nice pieces and nobody knows what to expect. It would be nice to know what you have but we wont be the only team with this problem.

Tim Settle , VT DT declared for the draft a few days ago... Not sure if that's who you were talking about... Have the other VT players officially said one way or the other??

EDIT: The other DT Ricky Walker did say he was returning for his SR year, but I couldn't find anything definitive on the Edmunds brothers..

You're acting as though we play Vag Tech in Week 1. The stuff about the QB alone could be rendered irrelevant if it's a freshman that has already played in the national spotlight against LSU and in a rivalry game against FSU.

Tim Settle declared last week.

We’ve taken 2 DTs in two years. The fact that we are now going to be very thin at the position is 100% on the staffs poor planning. This is the second most important position on the team hard to understand how we got here.

Ricky Walker is the Senior DT they are referring to at VT. Settle is the better NFL talent, and was only a rising Junior with two years of eligibility. But Walker is pretty good too. Alongside Walker on VT's depth chart they now have two red shirt sophomores, jarrod Hewitt, and Jimmie Taylor, that have combined for 15 tackles in their careers.

Walker and Settle had literally the same stats. Around 40 tackles, 12.5 TFL and 4.5 sacks. One left and one stayed.

Yes, this hurts.

But let's not crown VT just yet. They haven't exactly looked like world-beaters lately.
