agree I got them 8-4
I, too, have us 8-4 reg season w/ a bowl win. Too many inconsistencies at important positions.
agree I got them 8-4
8-4.
Defensive side of the ball is a disaster as of today with starters.
I Only like LT, Rique and the safety’s.
Everybody else is wishful thinking and hoping that guys take the next step.
If we are going with HOPE they could squeeze 9 wins.
I think 8-4 is about right. Offense looks good and could potentially carry the defense if they are lights out.
We just had a season with the fewest interceptions in Miami history. The player with the most was James Williams with 2……..we had 5.5 sacks from Zach Mccloud as the sack leader.
I don’t think we have a double digit sack guy on the roster, LBs, CBs outside of Tyrique are average to below average guys.
The roster of today I can only see 8-4 unless the TVD offense wins games in shootout fashion.
My gosh this is some real deal TRUTH that needed to be said and understood! this definitely needs to be pinned.I wanted some things to come to fruition before making this post. Clearly, under Mario’s leadership things are different. For a while I’ve complained about the S&C program, & now u’re hearing from our kids’ very own mouths, while trying to be respectful of the old program, admitting both the workouts & nutrition have been more geared towards what they do vs. saying to themselves ‘I can “see’” how this can relate to football.’
We’ve complained about recruiting; being lazy towards certain caliber of players, not having enough eyes out there like a Bama, Clemson, or UGA. Now, we’re seeing the exact opposite, not afraid to aggressively go after top tier talent DESPITE location.
We’ve complained about practices being, too, lax, where coaching wasn’t necessarily done. Brownie points & seniority taking precedence before the first whistle. Now we see guys getting coached up on minor details. Players praising the practices being harder, while seeing our HC, OC, & S&C coaches being right there in the middle, not allowing guys to get away w/ not executing their standards.
Honestly, there’s a lot to be excited for; couple that w/ the fam getting back together & allowed to come through w/ appropriate notice. Media coverage has been WAAAAY better than before. (Shout out to Canesville). Having a great, GREAT AD who comes from a top notch football factory. Having guys on staff w/ NFL credentials, &/or So Fla street cred. Seeing players work their tails out, looking like football players v. high school guys playing at the collegiate level. This has been the most excited I’ve been about the direction of our program since the downfall.
HOWEVER, I wanna swagger jack a partial post from @canesdogo:
“I am convinced that many cane fans will start, bleeting, cussin' and belching, negative crap, when we lose a close game, or a called play does not work out during a crucial game….The big question is........... will our fans give the Canes, Coaches and team a chance to grow and become great, or will impatience win out?.”
This, too, is my concern. We’ve been patiently waiting for 15+ yrs. Let’s be honest, there were & are some serious Mario haters on here, & human nature is sometimes ppl care about being right than being wrong. It’s the sensationalism of saying “Aha, I told u so” vs. seeing what’s best for their program. I’ll admit, I wasn’t a fan of the last 3 hires, however I put on the best pair of O&G glasses for a brief moment to give them a chance. This time, it feels different. It didn’t “feel” different under the previous hires, but like true fans, many convinced ourselves it would b/c we care. Mario 2021 vs Mario 2016 is two different coaches, but make no mistake about it, we r a rebuild & remodel. Some houses just need a coat of paint, while others need the dry rot completely removed & parts renovated. Our house is the latter. So I don’t want the fans who want “Lane Train” to assume in yr 1, if we don’t knock it out the park, we inherited FIU Mario.
Garcia already said it’s been a process learning a new O & D. Pls understand, while we boast some nice, young parts that will be great, we still have holes & ?marks across. That’s not a Mario fault, that’s a previous regime fault. I seen posters say ACCCG or bust, 10+ wins or it’s a failure. U r setting urself up for failure. History shows even the greatest coaches needed 2-3 yrs to right a ship off back on course. So my plead to my fellow Canes fans is to give it just a little time. Our culture has been tarnished, & like any fine jewelry that’s been tarnished, it takes a little time to buff it back to its luster.
It’s great to be a Miami Hurricane, & as Mario said, nothing is done yet. Enjoy what we got cooking, just don’t stick ur head in the pot, too, soon.
Win total this year isn't super important imo. I just don't want to be embarrassed vs A&M and Clemson. If we put 12 games of. good gametape together yr 2 and 3 could be special.I think we go 8-4 or 9-3 in the regular season & maybe get a bowl win.
I can see a texas a&m blowout but i have more confidence in being competitive vs clemson because its later in the season so we could be more settled in.10-2 with 2 blowout losses to Clemson and A&M could be just as disappointing as 8-4 with 2 very closes losses to ACC teams and 2 close losses to Clemson and A&M.
There are a lot of factors that go into deciding a successful season. Record is important but how we play for 4 quarters and how the coaches make adjustments are just as important. Can we get short yards on the ground when we need them? Can we get off the field on 3rd and 4th down? Score TDs when we get in the red zone? Keep them to field goals? Not constantly shoot ourselves in the foot with terribly timed penalties?
There are all kinds of other factors that can leave you feeling optimistic even if the record isn't as good as you hope or vice versa.
If we went 10-2 in the regular season with the only 2 losses being blowouts to ATM and Clemson, I would be ecstatic! That scenario would be a very successful yet realistic reflection of where we are as a program. A team that possesses very good talent yet lacking in depth in many areas particularly OL and DL plus an elite QB. That would reflect a team with the talent to beat the mediocre competition that the ACC(minus Clemson) presents yet still a way from truly competing with the elite national powers. It would almost certainly mean a rematch with Clemson in the ACCCG which I would suspect would be much closer the second time around.10-2 with 2 blowout losses to Clemson and A&M could be just as disappointing as 8-4 with 2 very closes losses to ACC teams and 2 close losses to Clemson and A&M.

Personally I give every staff until the 3rd year to prove we are headed in the right direction. Year 1, you're working with what you got. The goal is to recruit hard and prove that you're coaching competently and trying to establish culture. Year 2 is more of the same, but things should start looking more refined and a sense of direction should be felt throughout the program. Year 3, you have a lot of your own players now, but they are underclassmen. If the previous players weren't good, your recruits should be supplanting them on the depth chart and we look like a competent team with wins headed in the right direction. Year 4, there's no excuses. By now, everyone should know what they have in a coach.I wanted some things to come to fruition before making this post. Sh*t man, we all know how this goes. Bunch of dudes will slowly inflate what’s possible next season until less than 11 wins and beating Clemson and a NY6 bowl is a failure. TVD will need to be a Brianna finalist or he will have underperformed. Mario will need a top 5 class or it’s a failure. CIS has proven again and again and again that they can’t appreciate anything. And the best part is that you aren’t getting bashed for this post because people respect you, but if somebody else said this (true) sh*t, motherf*cker’s would be in here with that’s “battered woman” stuff. Like if you dare to think less than a NC is ok, you’re some kind of p*ssy. And I don’t think most of the culprits are really against Mario so much as they just can’t be happy with anything.I wanted some things to come to fruition before making this post. Great stuff. I’ve learned that in life (and CIS) there’s about 10-15% of the population that no matter what are just miserable a**holes. You can do nothing with these people. They will always complain, look to blame others for their shortcomings, and constantly bring rain to your parade. They hate themselves and project that onto everybody and everything they encounter. They’re like a virus… The 85-90% of Canes fans that are decent, rational people understand what’s happening here and will enjoy the ride, with the occasional fan critiquing that goes along with being a sports fan. The other 10-15% will always be around, lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce and steal everyone’s joy. That’s just life.I wanted some things to come to fruition before making this post. We are playing scrubs. The only good teams we are playing next year are Clemson and Tamu. Not to mention porsters have been ripping TAMU for months now talking about how overrated they are and how much of a Corch Jimbo is without Crablegs. Now all of a sudden TAMU is the unstoppable monster that we can't even beat with our Heisman hopeful QB.8-4.

God, I hope we are better than a 71 Chevelle lolExcellent post.
We're a 71 Chevelle. We have a nice engine under the hood, but boy... we let it rot from letting it sit outside for 15+ years.
Let Mario do his thing.
You think Mario can match Richt’s first year in 16’ with a better recruiting class?I think we go 8-4 or 9-3 in the regular season & maybe get a bowl win.
