The OC Candidates Thread

Herman was the OC I was hoping for prior to Gattis being announced (after my original #1 Joe Brady wasn't happening). But I have a really limited knowledge of up-an-coming coaches. I'm sure the list of OC's who would be an improvement over Gattis is a rather long list.

Hoping Mario and whoever else is involved are fully invested in getting the offense moving in a new direction. Let's not mess this up.

He needs to be “forced“ to find an HC job. As in find one or you’re fired.
Lol if it was up to the fans we would have a new coach every year , Abd people wonder why kids like tvd regress , these kids have a different OC and Qb coach every other year , I highly doubt we fire him after a year , what’s Mario history with firing coaches any way ? Is he a manny Diaz type of guy who made a change every year or a mark richt type of guy who stands by his guys and never fire any one?

Do porsters really believe GERDis is gone after this season via firing?

Just curious, what are his contract terms and buyout?

Don't believe he'll be fired outright. Imo, it'll be strongly suggested that he seek other opportunities so as to not tarnish his resume. Would make it a little easier for Mario to hire the next guy as well. For all we know, maybe Gattis at this point is willing to show himself to the door. This hasn't been a good fit at all.

Assuming Gattis gets sh't canned at the end of the season who are the candidates you want to see take over the offense?

My list:

Tom Herman: His offense got better every year at Texas finishing 7th in scoring the year he was fired.
Scott Frost: Failed as HC at Nebraska, but that may just be a dead program. Runs an uptempo spread offense that Florida athletes would thrive in.
Dan Mullen: Runs a power spread that's been successful everywhere he's been. I don't like how he uses his QB as a battering ram though.
Art Briles: We all know his story. Probably done coaching in college but would be a homerun hire at OC.

The above are all available.

Candidates below who are currently employed:

Jeff Scott: Current HC of South Florida that parlayed Clemson offensive success into a HC gig. The decline in efficiency immediately after he left Clemson was noticeable. Runs a power spread that would mesh with Cristobal's vision. Has won 4 games in 3 years at USF. May get fired after this season.
Alex Golesh: His name came up during our search to fill the staff. Only way I'd see him leave for a lateral position is if Heupel is the one calling plays and Golesh wants the reins. I couldn't find confirmation on who calls their plays.
Andrew Sowder: I've seen somebody mention him a couple times so adding him to the list. Took over the 104th scoring offense in 2018 at Kent State and had them #1 by 2020.
Warren Ruggiero: One of the prototypical "does less with more" coaches coordinating that Wake Forest offense. Since 2017 has averaged at least 30 points each season with the last two hovering around 40ppg.

Who'd you add to this list as names to watch/explore?
I hope I am wrong but listening to Mario I do not see any changes to staff. We can only hope Gattis gets an offer for another job. Second do not let Scott Frost any where near this program.

Scott frost would be a DISASTER if even half of what I have read is accurate. I followed a lot of the comments on the main board during this season leading up to his termination. He has been more than a bit "distracted" over the past couple of years in Nebraska. Huge issues with alcohol and banging coeds at one sorority on campus. Missing or late for practices, failed to show at an in-home with a 5 star recruit due to being out drinking ... called the crewts dad hung over or still drunk. His wife left him some time earlier in the year and returned to Orlando area. From all I have read I would avoid Frost like the plague. Mullen would be an interesting choice for sure. Tom Herman would be a great choice as well if he still has the fire. Sometimes those big buyouts can extinguish the "need" to succeed.
I know a few Nebraska guys who claim that at least half is true, particularly the G25 stuff.

I hadn't heard the 5-star recruit one, but i'll ask them about it.

Mike McDaniel

Hey a guy can dream can't he. Seeing what he's done to TUA and that offense is impressive.

On a serious note my vote goes to whoever runs a power spread but can coach QB's too.

I cant believe the Falcons resigned Matt Bryant. Crazy

Seriously though, there was a pretty good contingent on this board that didnt want Kendal. They kept pointing to the FSU year and that his route trees are super simple, having like 6 routes to them, so its easy to scheme against.

Im still not sure if Mario even interviewed him, but he did not turn down the job. That was his agent trying to drub up a 2nd buyer to force Arky's AD into a bigger contract. If we do move on from Gattis, he should be at least considered imo.

I am not throwing his name out as a candidate here necessarily, but as I watched NFL highlights last night and saw that Arizona fell to 3-5, I assume Kliff Kingsbury may be looking for a new gig next year. I presume he can likely take a year off or be a head coach somewhere in college if he wants to. I can't imagine he'll have that much interest to be an OC.

I had my worries about the route tree stuff too until i watched more of the fsu stuff. He mixes in more stuff than huepel does, heupel is just full blown veer n shoot. Either way i want that offense because I think Jacurri would break records in it lol

My opinion on the briles Baylor spread offense was that you’d kill the lesser talented teams and then teams with equal or better talent would be able to scheme it all away and you’d be exposed. After what I saw tennesse do my opinion is changed and I can admit I am wrong. But also let’s not act like Kendall is on heupels level. He might be but I don’t think he is.
