The Faction

Half this board was ****ed yesterday when we scored that last touchdown to cover the spread just so their narrative could be fulfilled. That's the nature of CIS fans.

I agree with some of what you wrote. I'm not ready to crown Mendoza just yet. I saw him at Berkeley last year and he was meh. I saw him yesteday and he was meh.... but he can scramble and make plays. He hasn't hurt his team yet. Beck cost us the Louisville game. Period. Yes there were other factors, but tossing 4 picks (ahem 5) almost guarantees a loss.
Losing clunkers isn't just a Miami thing. Got any friends in Texas? You mentioned Unhappy Valley. Know anyone there?
We also ran some pulling G/T run plays in the second half, so is Mario really that dumb or did the players install that on their own?

I'm not trying to get snarky with you. I feel that sigh at the end of what you wrote. It's just that we really do have a faction of our fans that expect perfection - and it's not attainable.
It’s a real mind **** watching other games every week.

I get ****** about stuff we do. Mostly because I feel it’s self inflicted.

Bad penalties. Bad QB decisions. Slowing our offense down when we have a talent advantage.

Each week our fans put other teams on pedestals when in fact they also struggle. A lot. Indiana should have lost to Iowa. The struggled with Old Dominion. Bama was absolutely outplayed yesterday by South Carolina.

Everyone is on OSUs nuts but they have real issues on offense. Sayin is not good but people see one game of nice stats and freak out.

If we just get out of our own **** way sometimes we should be fine.

All as double digit favorites…all against inferior comp…all with control over our postseason destiny. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result. Let’s ignore the previous two seasons too because it doesn’t fit the select narrative.

Carry on king
Last year the defense was **** and the defense cost us the Syracuse game and Iowa St if you want to count it. GT was on Cam as much as the D. He had an avg game and couldn’t overcome the mistakes he made playing his style. The defense was bad in that game as well but the D played well enough for us to win if we kick some fgs or Cam gets us pts on just one more drive. We also had a bunch of unnecessarily close games mostly cause the defense was ***. Any game we lost last season the spread doesn’t matter to me cause the D was historically bad.

Still the losses were all close and down to the last drive. Even when we play terribly Mario has built a team that literally will stay in it to the final drive.

If we had Cam this season we would be steamrolling everyone which is incredibly frustrating but what can you do.

The way we lost to Louisville highlights the Mario shortcomings ( slow methodical style, stubbornness regarding schemes, lack of pre game prep for opponents tendencies or anticipated gameplan) but at least it wasn’t some sort of egregiously bad in game coaching decision that cost us the game.

I also stand by the fact that acc officiating is biased against Miami and anytime we play anyone in a ACC game the contest will be managed by the officials to keep it close as long as possible. You can also count on some terrible pro canes calls to overshadow the consistently biased officiating for the other 55 minutes of the game. Usually calls having no impact on the outcome of the game or final ACC standings ( see miracle at duke)

I 100 percent expect to dominate Stanford. What I didn't expect was coming out and doing the same **** we did while losing to louisville. There's just no reason to make it that difficult for the offense to score points. I don't want to hear it coulda been 17-7 or whatever. 7 points is all we scored against stanford. You could use the same **** to say if stanford hadn't thrown the interceptions that led to quick touchdowns for us.. the score would've been different. That first half was *** and if that's what we're gonna continue to run we will not make the acccg. Sorry, I'm not beating my chest and screaming 15-1 natty!! That was a depleted stanford and they pretty much stuffed us in the first half.
There are 6 teams in the acc either above us in the standings or basically tied with us. One has the tie breaker against us. Three of them we don't play and two of those are undefeated. We go head to head with only two of them. Here's reality.. we're 6-1 and need help to get into the acccg. If we keep playing the way we did in the first half against a bad Stanford team.. well take a break from beating your chest and see if you can figure that out.

I'm as big a fan as almost anyone here and I'd bet most on here would label me a slurper. If you want to ignore the obvious issues you go ahead. This aint ******* checkers, it's chess...

We ARE inverse Penn State. As a program

- Win big games, lose clunkers. Still not a top contender. We’re better as a program. Stuck in Mario purgatory.

- Totally blew it taking Beck over Mendoza and whiffing on top portal WR targets (bc we had no QB)

- not completely down on the rest of the year, just hostage to a really dumb head coach who thinks duo is the only running play on earth. Sigh 42-7 bro

For the millionth time Trumpycane is saying he was never coming here

He was always going to Indiana

Fair points amigo. This is a top 4-5 expensive roster in the country. We should expect more.

Mendoza is more athletic than Beck. And a steadier hand. Not saying he is a God but think he would give us more. We turned him down, supposedly it was Dawson. Mario is friends with his father. I was told His mom is ill. They wanted both kids home. It is what it is.

I hope we run more behind coop and Francis and less behind brockermeyer. He’s just gonna get killed vs above avg DTs.

Mom has MS sadly, iirc. Terrific family - I knew their mom when we were kids/teens.

Just tell us that you're unhinged and we can just move on with our lives.

I made a comment on a post after the Louisville game about a sub group of "fans" that "is unsatisfied with anything less than complete and total annihilation of every single opponent each week." They are The Faction.

Considering our history since 2003, I get this stupidity after an uninspired loss to a team we should've beat. However, I'm seeing these creatures come out again this morning after a 42-7 win over Stanford. Yes, I saw the first half. Yes, it was uninspired (again) Yes, I get the PTSD as I was feeling it too. Then the second half came and we looked like the team we should have been in the first half. Football games are not played on a glowing screen with joysticks. Parity is very real. Last year's national champ had two losses and I think it's very likely the champ will not be undefeated this year...at least I haven't seen a world beater to this point. (Side note - Indiana played the LA version of Stanford yesterday and rolled them. They might be the best team so far and I can't belive I'm writing this.) I'll never understand why some fans feel the the need to act as if the world is ending after a blowout victory. It is a poor reflection on the school and those who do that look dumb. But....I guess Message Board Geniuses wouldn't exist without it.

Carry on.
Go Canes.

And y'all can "finna drag me" if ya want. Don't care cuz I'm not wrong about this.
Well said

I thought it was football, not a board game.

Why don’t you want to hear about 17-7? Because it didn’t happen or because you enjoy being mad we didn’t dominate for 60 minutes? Should we have destroyed them out the gates? Yup. We looked like azs for the first 30+ minutes on offense. Never said we didn’t. I didn’t ask anyone to drop to their knees and slurp Mario. I am amazed at the complete lack of any nuance coupled with the video game expectations that The Faction has. Again, I’m not talking about people who fairly criticize - we should have come out and executed far better, especially on the FG and the 4th and 1. Another fair criticism - our run game was bland, especially in the first half (again). It’s the over the top, hyperbole laden post game rants after a 35 point win that get old quick.

As another poster astutely pointed out, it is capable to be a fan without being a mope or a slurper.

I don't want to hear about it because that's football. Stanford could say a bunch of shoulda coulda woulda for the game also. People are mad because we saw the same **** in the first half that plagued the team the last three games.. and we were tied with a depleted bottom feeder. Imo is reasonable to feel that **** offense isn't going to beat good teams. Some dudes are getting paid tons of money to be unimaginative as ****. Yeah, we blew them out in the second half because the turnovers and short punts gave us some really short fields. It shouldn't take being tied with Stanford at half to realize you need to do something different. I think most of us are glad for the W but a lot of us realize that **** offense will not beat good teams. We're 3 games into the acc schedule and we're already outside looking in and we've only played one decent team. Great, we won the battle but it's clear that if we don't do something different we'll be left out again this year. Had we not just lost to louisville because our offense sucked, how we played against Stanford wouldn't be the hot topic it is.

The only thing Mario has done well was get the $$$ people to pony up. Outside of that he is a trash. , trash at making hires, trash at anything coaching and game planning, and pretty much a run of the mill coach.

However, most of his faults can be masked because he can buy the kids needed to win. that is his greatest gift to UM football. Getting the money turned on.

Other than that, any coaching staff with a pulse has a punchers chance against us.

Your last sentence is money

Agreed--I was melting down a bit in the first half (who wasn't?), but was very encouraged at the change in pace (more up tempo--still not enough) and scheme in the second half (working the edges more).
