The biggest difference between Miami and Michigan

If you line up and run into a loaded box on first down and second down and end up with 3rd and somewhere between 5 and 9, you’re not going to convert a lot of third downs throughout the game. That’s not a third down execution issue.

It’s a stubbornness on first and second down issue. You’ve already determined your fate on first down with the first two formations and plays.

It’s like when we came out in the FSU game and lined up in what was basically a jumbo set-goal line formation on our 35-ish yard line.

The first two plays, predictably, went nowhere. Which set up third and long. Which we predictably did not convert, because it’s difficult to convert third and long for any offense.

That’s just burning plays and therefore burning possessions.

Mario does that too much throughout his career. Oregon is not coming out in those formations and doing that under Lanning. UGA isn’t doing that under Smart.

Harbaugh is the closet coach to doing that. And he can get away with it against most teams because he plays a bunch of cornfed Midwest teams most weeks. You can’t do that **** in the south.

You cannot just burn plays and possessions against even bottom Top 25 level southern teams.

Physical, ball-control football still wins the games that matter. Miami tried to establish this culture all year. Our OL is actually better than Michigan’s right now- watch how the NFL draft plays out.

Yes, Michigan is the better team overall with the better defense and deeper NFL talent. But the difference should not be as stark as it is. What’s the biggest difference between the two teams? Game management.

Michigan is 5th nationally in fewest giveaways. Miami is 107th. And despite Michigan using a dozen different head coaches, they consistently make better decisions in crucial situations. They also had a smart quarterback who was at his best when his team needed a conversion.

You can’t be a physical, grind-it-out team if you consistently fail to manage the game. The reason Miami is 7-5 is because the coaches and quarterback did not consistently manage the game all season.
Agree but the other thing that stands out is DISCIPLINE. Smart QB? McCarthy is in a class by himself. Winning that game today without their HC on the field was impressive.

Alabama, Michigan, Washington all have mobile QBs and plays are designed for them to run! we need to search the portal for that type of QB!

I have been saying this for the last 24 hours! We beat BC, TVD has an amazing game, and we blow them out and we are making comparisons to Michigan! At best Boston beat Norland in the State championship! WE BEAT BC!

Michigan's team IQ is way higher than Miami's. They're disciplined in their assignments, they had 3 penalties today, and the run Corum had where he broke outside and purposely stayed inbounds when our RBs would've went out of bounds.

team IQ starts at the top, and if Mario & our staff/analysts etc don't get smarter, we'll continue to find stupid ways to lose games.

I would say Miami as a team lacks situational awareness and seems like a team that can’t step up on the small plays to put the game away

If Michigan is the ultimate goal for Miami, then we’d be making a mistake wasting NIL money on a QB in the Portal.

We need to load up on OL’s, DL’s & find another big bodied Fletcher style RB.

Probably should consider hiring Sherrone Moore or Kirk Campbell.

I’m not being sarcastic either, if that’s what we wanna be moving forward then we need to lean into it all the way & stop dipping our toes halfway in the water.
Could use a few elite DBs as well.

Saying that our head coach cost us wins by failing in one of his primary responsibilities is kool aid?

Sometimes people just read what they want to read.

Wasn’t long ago, it was a semenhole suck fest. Now it’s a Michigan suck fest.

Attempting to compare any two, and assuredly multiple, programs is laughable. There are an infinite amount of variables to consider
Not if you are pro Mario. Apples to apples at this point.
