The biggest difference between Miami and Michigan

Michigan's team IQ is way higher than Miami's. They're disciplined in their assignments, they had 3 penalties today, and the run Corum had where he broke outside and purposely stayed inbounds when our RBs would've went out of bounds.

team IQ starts at the top, and if Mario & our staff/analysts etc don't get smarter, we'll continue to find stupid ways to lose games.

All the more reason why we shouldn’t be playing the type of offense we run.

Increase plays run. Increase possessions.

That’s how you minimize the impact of dumb plays.

Saying that our head coach cost us wins by failing in one of his primary responsibilities is kool aid?

Sometimes people just read what they want to read.

Would you agree that, if you are going to be a dumb team, artificially limiting plays run and playing a style that keeps score close, is probably not the type of offense we should be running?

The Michigan assistant coach outclassed Coach Day, Cristomoron would be need 6 timeouts in the first half to keep pace!

Agree. Very disciplined team. Also noticed at the end of the game that the defensive player who intercepted the ball was wearing a turnover chain. Some coaches just get it.

Which Bama? The one that several years ago was running it down others throats or the one that threw it all over the field?

This is the 1 million dollar question. All signs right now point to the former which is when Mario was there. He left for Oregon basically right at the time Saban decided to evolve his offensive system. He’s building us using the Bama blueprint he learned from Saban, which I am all for EXCEPT for the offense part which Saban himself moved on from. Hopefully Mario comes to his senses like Saban did and evolves his view of what offense should be. You can still be physical but you gotta spread the field out some more and be explosive. If he does that, I am very optimistic about the future. But right now his Achilles heal is the offense he wants to run, he did the same at Oregon. Talk to any Oregon fan and they will tell you they mostly loved Mario but hated his offense.

Miami and Michigan actually are pretty similar

Miami is an expensive private school in a tropical climate

Michigan is an expensive state school (for out of staters) in a winter climate

Both have large contingences of northeast upper middle/class students

Oh wait, we're talking football :)

The difference is not just game management. lol Saying that gives the impression that, that’s the only difference between the two programs. There’s a whole infrastructure difference between the two programs.

Harbaugh is such a great he choked away his lone super bowl appearance and hasn’t had the chance to choke away a Natty.

He was getting dogged on this board 3 years ago before he beat Ohio State a handful of times. Had he not been at his alma mater he’d have been ****canned.

Perennial 10 win seasons aren’t good enough. National championships are the goal yet we suck off every head coach that hasn’t actually won one. I love this fanbase.

As someone who follows Michigan closely, Michigans success lies in these factors:

1. Harbaugh instills a toughness unlike any other coach. Look at what he did with the 49ers. 6-10 to 13-3 NFC championship game year one. Stanford became the most physical team in the Pac 10 and soon had USCs number.

2. Even though he was a QB he has an eye for line talent that’s uncanny. Look at all the high picks on the defensive line. Grant, Jenkins and Graham weren’t the highest rated guys but they’ve the best interior defensive linemen in CFB. Grant was a 3 star and is a stud.

3. Ben Herbert is the best strength coach. He was with Bielema when Wisconsin won all those B10 championships.

4. Great success evaluating across the board for high character guys. They don’t get many but they don’t miss on 5 stars- McCarthy, Edwards and Johnson are all complete team players. McCarthy had no problem running 32 straight times against Penn State.

5. Great in game adjustments. Moore and Minter and Macdonald before are masters at making adjustments. Look at the penn state game, they realized quickly they couldn’t block Chop Robinson so they went heavy and used his speed against him. Against Ohio State they knew that JT was more of a power guy so felt more comfortable leaving Keegan out there.

“Biggest” doesn’t mean “only.” I quickly went through some other differences in the OP.

This was a comment on the playing style debate that we see on these boards. The difference between their fYzIcAL and our FyZiCaL isn’t OL talent or explosive players. They are a lot smarter at controlling the game at the coach and quarterback positions, and the numbers reflect that.
