The Bank (Defensive Edition) 1/12

And a second DT after Carter. And another LB. We've been super lucky with injuries. Assuming we land Wilson and Carter, which would be amazing, that would still only be 6 portal guys on defense plus replacing anyone else who leaves.
You got Moten, Scott, Blount plays inside, if Carter comes. Not many guys are signing up to be a 5th DT. And we got jones who will be in year 3 and they probably feel stancil can provide some snaps if needed

Koi Perich is a NFL talent who will play one more year, get drafted afterwards and make a ****load of money. These kinds of players with past, very successful ties to your coaching staff, don't just show up at your doorstep.

I'm fairly certain he'll receive money we're not ready to spend at that position. I could make the same argument for our D-Line and why we're chasing Wilson.
I like Koi just for the physical imposing frame at S. One that can do it all but if we want to go small it is what it is. Pause

Pete just mentioned on the pod that the staff really loves Stancil

Don’t think it’s that he doesn’t want him. It’s probably more of he is too expensive at a position where you have guys you are comfortable with
Plus, I'm sure the staff is fighting to retain all four corners- Brown, Lucas, OJ, and O'conner. That isn't cheap

And don’t forget a guy like dunnigan in the class who was a top 100 guy and I’m sure he is getting paid well. And he has been practicing since last month

Its easy to forget, but we dont have endless nil money. Dmoney’s reports sounds heavily like picking and choosing where to spend avail funds. I wanted koi really bad, but i get putting that money towards a stud DL. Wilson and the QB will eat the majority of budget. And if we get that OT, he wont be cheap either. Outside of the starting Safeties. Wallace, Day and one of FR gotta step up.

I don't get the obsession with Koi Perich. He had a great freshman year with 5 picks, but we have Fitzgerald returning who had 6 picks while playing part-time. For the amount he is going to cost, I don't think he provides that much of a boost in production. The staff has a strategy and a type of player they want to plug into to spots and play certain roles. Nobody expected Jakobe and Keonte to play like they did when we went after them.

Staff has earned my trust with evals.

It says a lot about what the younger guys are showing in practice / on film that the staff doesn't feel the need to invest at Perich's level at Safety for 2026
No doubt. You run the risk of them transferring as well, which you want to prevent if you think they're close .

We've seen Mario recruit over members on the team in the portal (see last year at DB, RB, and WR). If they aren't taking kids, they think they don't need them

not gonna lie, I'm a combination of shocked/bummed that we arent going after Koi but I guess the coaches truly know what they do and don't want so who am I to question that.

We have 2 first round Defensive Ends, playing in the National championship, coached by a Hall of Famer - and we supposedly have money. Closing on the Missouri DE - should be an easy task.
