Strong to USF

USF is probably a good fit for Strong, not worried in the slightest about him out recruiting us though.

The stuff of many a Canes fan's nightmares:

nightmare.webp

Look, you don't win as many games as Strong did at Louisville on JUST having a stellar QB. That whole team was solid, tough and disciplined (on the field). Not every situation is made for every decent coach.

I'm sure Strong has regrets and some things that he would do differently and the truth is, I think he would succeed at USF. UT is just a snake pit and you need the right person in there. Also, and I really hesitate to bring this up because I don't believe in identity politics, I get the feeling (from internet chatter) that some of the old donors never bought in to someone "like him" being the HC. Could be way off, and I don't have solid proof of it. If that's true, it would certainly make things difficult.

One other thought... I definitely don't think Charlie will become a nightmare for us recruiting-wise. I actually think that having competent coaches at FAU/UCF/FIU/USF actually helps UM IF we are trending up and recruiting well in general. What it can do is create a virtual wall to a lot of out-of-state schools who have been poaching the state (especially from I-4 on down) by having good recruiters soaking up a lot of those low 4*s/high 3*s and the many SoFL diamonds that are always down there. In a few years, recruiters from many schools might get out of the routine of coming down to the sunshine state and then the Big 3 can use their reps to reel the ones they want in because of they seniority in the state. At least, that's one way to look at it.

I am shocked that you would suggest that some UT boosters didn't like Strong because he was black!

On another note, unfortunately for your argument, Strong's record proves exactly the opposite of what you claim. He's been mediocre to bad every year aside from the two with Teddy. Doesn't mean he's a bad coach, but there's little room to argue otherwise.
His only saving grace now is he's a well respected man who handles himself professionally or he'd be hard pressed to get another HC gig anytime soon. Just ask Mike Leach.

I don't know why people are scoffing at the notion that this is bad news. He's a fantastic recruiter.

Is he going to steal four and five stars away from us? No. But he'll certainly have a shot with some three star, raw, high ceiling guys that our staff will want. They'll have to wait here to develop whereas they can play immediately there.

Any way you look at it, this is not good for Miami. Time will tell if he's just a nuisance or a legitimate thorn in our side.

Is Clint Hurtt coming with some bears players?

I would be happy to have Strong at my alma mater. I think he'll be successful at USF. Others get retreaded, I'll be happy to see some other others get a second chance.

He's got a great eye for talent. Not on Butch's level but a very good one nonetheless. Let him find the gems and steal them from him.

Oh and he is going to do very well at USF. He's not as bad as his Texas stint indicates.

He would be one of the tiny amount of african american coaches to ever get a second chance.

Charlie Strong to USF is bad news. Another Ace recruiter to join the competition in Florida. Hope this deal falls through. Rather not fight against Butch and also Strong in addition to the big 3. Fingers crossed!!

NOT BAD NEWS AT ALL! WE AINT LOSING KIDS TO USF LOL NOW IF HE WAS FSU DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR OR UFs AGAIN THEN THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING TO IT. WE DODGED A BULLET IN THAT REGARD

To be fair, Ol Ty Willingham did all he could to try to make sure none of them ever got additional chances. And that m-f'er still got a spot on the Playoff Committee.

They may not have bought in, but they would never turn off the money flow and have their dear ol' Texas have anything but the best. Dude had every resource at his disposal, including a pipeline of well-coached HS players from winning cultures and still bungled it all. He just wasn't at Louisville anymore. Say what you will about their conference, but the competition was better at UT and the expectations a **** of a lot higher. Yeah, he won the Sugar Bowl against a declining UF team and pounced all over a crappy Al Golden Miami team. He did deserve the chance, he just wasn't the right guy. He will do OK at USF but never be a threat to Miami.

Correct, you win that many games by playing nobody with a stellar QB in a **** big east

During their 12-1 season they played legends like
Ohio
Eastern Kentucky
Kentucky
Temple
Rutgers
UCF LOSS LOL
USF
Uconn
Houston (pre herman)
Memphis
Cincy

I only read the first few replies but I can guarantee somewhere in this thread some mentioned Butch Davis the God.

wow shannon and golden mindphucked this fanbase

I would say you as well because as soon as you hear anything you immediately jump to conclusion. In this case your wrong...

Dude didn't say he was worried about Strong being able to compete on the field. That would be laughable at this point.

He said he would compete for recruits. Strong has very deep ties to Florida and the high school coaches like him. He would also be the only black head coach of significance in the state of Florida. Over time he might drive this team into the ground as well but until then he will get better recruits. You can bank on that. Not sure I am concerned at this point but I would rather see him coaching Cal.

I would be more worried if he ended up as a LB coach for FSU.
